I've been searching for a car for the last month. I don't have alot of money to spend and have been working my tail off to earn enough money for a small get around car. In my search I've run into these ads that sound too good to be true! 2004 Jetta $2890 (lindawatt8); 2002 Passat $3300 (tommy_finch). Well guess what? They are!

Most recently, nickwebster8 is advertising a 2000 Audi A4 with 89k miles for $3940 in San Jose, CA. He provids the vin # in his ad and fluff around the vehicle's "mint condition" and low mileage. So I ran a CarFax report and it says that the car is located in Massachusetts with a dealer as of 7/2007. I went to the dealer's website and found that this car is not listed in their used car inventory.

I email Mr. Nick back and asked him where the car is located and ask if I can see it. This is his response:

"Hello,

As I told you in my first e-mail, I am in Scotland with my work. Before leaving US I had prearranged the deal with WorldPay so my presence in US isn't necessary. The car is in their possession in US ready for delivery. You have 5 days to test and inspect the car. So if you want to make this deal I need the following details from you:

full name and address
shipping address
phone #

After I will have all this details I will forward them to WorldPay and I will proceed the order. WorldPay will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that i am covered by them and that I am legit seller. Waiting your email with the requested details.

Regards!!
Nick"

Each seller has one of the following story lines: recently divorced and need to sell everything, son in an accident and need money for hospital bills, or relocation out of US for work. When I inquired further with each "seller" they responded as Nick did above.

I reported each "seller" to their respective domains; I've even gone out of my way to send each the other's response and reports from this web-site so they know someone is onto them an can only hope that their burried conscience will speak to them.

I implore you, beware the fake "sellers". Whether you or someone you know is looking for a vehicle, do your homework, spend $30 for CarFax, and most of all, remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Report these charlatans and don't let them get away with theiving from the disiplined and honest average American!
