About five years ago I purchased a watch from a local Nixon dealer the brand was the Don. At the time Nixon offered a lifetime warranty on all of its watches. It was one of the reasons I went with them in the first place. The original watch cost around $200 and for me is a lot to spend on a watch but I really liked it. Within the first 6 months the watch band broke and I had to send it in for repairs. I brought it back to the original place of purchase and they charged me about ten dollars to broker the repair with Nixon. the first repair took about 3 months to be returned And was a completely new watch. I was pretty happy that I got a new watch but out of 9 months only had it for 6.

About a year later the same thing happened battery died and the band broke in the same place. Again I sent it back through the same store only issue was the time it took to get a placement. about 3 months again. This time they sent me the player. I didn't think It was a big deal because it was a similar model and it looked really nice. Until the watch broke again Within about a year. went back to the store and this time they refused to help. They told me that Nixon changed policy's and was was easier for me to work directly with Nixon.

when I contacted Nixon they told me it would cost $75.00 I explained to them that was a mistake because they had a lifetime guarantee on there product and I should have to pay because it is a manufacturers issue. They told me in not a polite manner that they could not help. Discouraged I put the watch in a drawer and there it say for about 2-3 months when I decided to call them again. This time it was $90 even though I explained that they tricked me out of a lifetime warranty, again they would not help.

Again I put the watch in a safe place and thought I am pretty handy I could fix it myself. After scouring the Internet eBay , amazon. Google etc I could not find any parts. I tried multiple watch repair jewlery stores and could not find a solution. Until when I was driving taxi in Tahoe I happenEd to pick up one of the owners of Nixon And after talking with him about the situation he told me he would make it right. I gave him my contact info and he said he would pass it on to the service manager. i never really expected anything from him but he did seem sincere so I guess it got my hopes up. I never did hear anything from this encounter.

So now again I am looking at my watch that I probably got about 2 years of actuall usage out of it and checked the repair cost again it is $120 now about half the cost of a new watch.  felling pretty discouraged about Nixon watches in general and the overall treatment I received from there customer service department and am debating on throwing the watch away. I could probably sell it for parts on eBay to help some other sucker to fix his broken watch for less than the cost of a new one.

The problem with the whole situation is not just the cost to repair the watch but the fact I feel cheated out of a promised warranty. at this point I would go and buy a new one but the amount of times the watch broke in the first couple years makes it difficult to spend that kind of money on anything. When I do spend that kind of money on a watch i would expect it to last a long time with care and regular battery replacements which was not the case When it came to this Nixon deal.
