After being advised by a local mobile home dealer to file bankruptcy, shortly after being released they financed a new double wide through Oakwood. We were told that the septic and water would be included. We used our single wide as a trade in. Our trailor was gone and our lot had been rented out. I was pregnant and we had now where else to go so we moved into the double wide. Then we were told that our necessities would not be included unless we secured with the deed to the land. It was not our land and we did not have that option. We tried to hold on without a septic or water. We used a bucket in the bathroom which had to be taking out and dumped in the woods and carried unfiltered water from the creek. We also had a five year old daughter living in the home. This was very unsanitary conditions for a pregnant woman and small child to have to live in, but we didn't have a choice. The dealer never came to do any repairs and the home started to fall apart. We contacted Oakwood on several occasions always being transfered to different people. Now they say we never reported any of it. We let the home go back because of what the payments were and the fact that we could rent a nice home for the price we were paying to live without water or a bathroom. We lived like this for about 1 1/2 years and was unable to obtain a loan becuase of the bankruptcy we were advised to file. They knew exactly what they were doing when they done it. Now, 6 years later they put 16,000 on our credit and want to make a deal of .25 per dollar we owe them which would be 4000, like we have that, my husband had been giving plasma just to have gas and grocery money now. I think they owe us for time and suffering and forcing my children to be in that situation. Byrd and associates report similar cases accross Applachian regions but they could not file us on their class action due to them being in KT and us being in TN some sort of state law. Would love to be contacted by similar situations in the state of TN to arrange a class action.

I have been informed that Oakwood and all associated companies have filed bankrupt and have been liquidated. The att. General for the state of TN informed me if Oakwood is contacting people they are doing it without a business license because they are no longer a company. They cannot collect a debt without a business license and the At.Gen. of TN said they are no longer a company. This includes all companies with the name of Oakwood aka Oakwood acceptance and so on.
