I purchased a laptop from this particular store on black friday of this year, one week later the internet explorer started giving me error messages. I brought the laptop back to office depot and they told me that it could cost me 150 dollars to fix the "problem". i rejected their offer and when i took it to my neighbor all he did was scan the computer, something that took 15 seconds to do.

Do not go to this location to get work done on your laptop, they are theives! they were going to take advantage of a women... i will never go there ever again! i suggest you don't either. I am going to file a formal complaint with the company.

A software problem can be created by installation of incompatible software on the first day of use. That would not be covered by warranty.

It's easy because you aren't actually building a computer. You are assembling it. I assembled my last three bicycles but I didn't build them.

My question is , if you just bought it then a week later it had problems? I am sorry but this is not (unless you are just silly and go to websites or click on adds) a software problem. I know this for a fact because I bought an HP from Best Buy. Within a few weeks it started acting crazy then crashed. I was stupid enough to use the Nortons that came with it. By the way Nortons sucks, never use Nortons . Kaspersky is a wonderful antivirus/malware/ect  program. It is a little pricy but its cheaper than buying an new computer.

As I was saying I took it back to Best Buy and the "geek squad" ( those people literally know less than an average person fixing a computer) . They told me it was not their responsibilty and I inquired that why the h**l did you charge me an extra 100 dollars for something that they obviously can't help with. Then I continued to inform them that this computer was bought here and it was obviously defective. Best Buy didn't do anything. I contacted HP (and not one person spoke english btw) . They kept giving me the run around. After a week I finally called them for the 7th time and basically let them have it. They replaced my hard drive for free!!! Hp sucks , I will stick with building my own computers from now on. But since they replaced the hard drive I have had no problems. I really had to get nasty.

What I don't understand is why places can sell computers, sell stuff to you that they will never need and get away with it. If you sell a computer, doesn't matter which kind, the company should stand behind it. Best Buy has never stood behind anything they have sold. They never will but again eventually they will stop selling computers (Best Buy is Worst Buy) or stand behind the product they sell. Not our responsibility to make sure Best Buy is actually checking out how and when to stop selling a certain brand. Best Buy is just like any other company. They take advantage of people . I will say that when I build a computer I do buy all my stuff from there and never had a problem. But that is because I build it myself. Its funny go into a Best Buy and of course someone will say do you need help. You tell them well I am building my own computer and this is what I need. They will run away pretending your a leper. Its hilarious. Or they come up with some excuse oh...I will be right back, as you watch them scurry away to some unsuspecting customer filling their heads about bs that the do not back up. Period.

Building your own computer is not hard. If I can do it anyone can do it. Then if it screws up the only person you have to blame is yourself but...if you build it then you know it , inside and out.

Best Buy you really suck. Your geek squad sucks. You fail as a company when it comes to selling computers.

Software Issue

You did not get ripped off because you did not lose 150.00. Since you obviously do not know much about computers, you'll need to pay someone who does to look into your problem. 150.00 is about right because Most times, folks like you :
- Dont Update their computer
- Dont Update their virus definition files
- Dont Perform regular scans
- Download attachments and execute them thinking they are from a legit source
- Play so many games there's a good chance one of them is a trojan.
If anything, they were giving you a good estimate of the cost of discovering your malware issue. Otherwise, get ripped off first before saying you were.

Office Depot is a rip off all-together

AUTHOR: FOD - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, February 19, 2012

I've worked at Office Depot for 2 years, I know we rip people off, im pressured to sell warrantys that 90% of the consumers will never even use. I also know for a FACT that the "Freee PC-Tune Up" is a scam. For example, one day a customer comes to me with a take-a-ticket with the computers information (the computer they wished to purchase) they wanted to also purchase the warranty and the anti-virus that we offer. When I attacthed the computer to our service bench and started to run the services, I decided to do a PC tune up first just to get rid of some unneeded files, well to my amazement the computer came back with traces of MALWARE! How does a computer that was JUST taken out of it's factory sealed box have malware? IT DOESN'T, our programs run scripts that reveal false readings, which scare customers into purchasing a bunch of extra crap they do not even need. When I told my manager he told me to keep that information to my self. I was shocked that he would even allow something like this to go on, hundreds of people go to Office Depots all across america every day to get a check up on their computer, and most of them are blatantly lied to, and are pressured into buying something they were otherwise fine without!

So, word from the wise... Go to Staples, or Best Buy, Office Max, anywhere but Office Depot, save your self time, money and a headache!!

The service is not free. Do you work for free?

Software problems are not covered by the warranty.

Not thieves

AUTHOR: IntheKnow - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Certainly not thieves.  Apparently you needed someone to do a malware or virus scan.  This is not a warranty issue.  They were charging you for a service YOU could not perform.
