Office Max advertises that they will match online prices. I noticed that Frys Electronics was selling a SimpleTech 1TB Turbo external drive for $70. I have a $50 reward at Office Max so I checked their website and found the exact identical item on their website.

http://tiny.cc/wC6N6

They are selling the item for $170

I submitted a match request on their website and was turned down:

We do apologize, but products and services by third party providers are not subject to a price match.  This item is a special order item shipped directly from a third party vendor.

OfficeMax thanks you for the opportunity of servicing your future business and personal supply needs.  If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

This item is not described as a third party item anywhere on their website. This is just a convenient way to avoid matching the price. They can say anything is a third party item. I will be filing with Arizona AG

Restocking Fee

AUTHOR: Rob - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, April 17, 2010

There is no restocking fee for defective items as long as you exchange it for the exact same item within the 14 day return policy and with a receipt. If you have this, we just do an even exchange for the customer. If it's past the 14 days, we will not return it, you have to go through the manufacturer. If you exchange it for a different product, there will be a 15% restocking fee.

Office Max Price Match Updated

AUTHOR: ssmatik - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, October 22, 2009

Sent them another email:

Can you please direct me to the place on the item Webpage where it indicates that this is a third party item?

(I do have the page archived for future reference)

This was their response:

Thank you for your reply.  A third party item is an item we do not stock in our warehouse.  We do not post this information on our website.

OfficeMax thanks you for the opportunity of servicing your future business and personal supply needs.  If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

Once again, I do apologize and thank you for choosing OfficeMax.

Sincerely,

Jennifer White
