Thank you for this report.  I'm been in the busy for about the same time as you and you are 100% correct even thought times have change with the Internet the best way to make it is hard work and networking which in the entertainment field is done by interviews in the flesh.  The Internet is just a tool to promote and market yourself but at the end of the day only the person and their talent can land the gig. Yes invest in yourself not in someone else.  I just hate people taking advance of other people and selling them dreams it's hard enough as it is.  Thanks once again for your guidance.

I recently went to a OST interview. During the interview I was amazed at the talent that they have scouted in the past and looked foward to finding out what they thought about me, and any potential I may have. I passed the first interview and was invited back for a second interview (scheduled for today). The open call had only about 20 people, these people all were scouted online and had the same "unique invitation". Come to find out, almost everyone walked out of the interview with the 'magic 2nd interview invitation'. I cant help but question how legitimate this agency is when 99% of the hopeful models happened to be exactly the 'new-face' this agency was looking for.

My ultimate goal is not to become "America's Next Top Model"... I am looking for something fun to do in my spare time, something that I can do for extra money, and something that I enjoy doing. So, if you could please email me that website that has promotional work, I would truly appreciate it.

Unfortunately, Kiersten is absolutely correct. I know we all wish there was an easier way but this is a tough business. You will only succeed if you have the drive and the determination and are willing to put in the time.

Models are Independent Contractors. Models basically work for themselves. If you don't put in the work, don't expect to get any bookings.
Do not bother paying a company for a photo shoot or a posting on their site for them to market you to perspective agencies or clients. Clients go to the agencies for models, and most agencies do not condone this type of scam business, so they are not likely to select you for representation no matter how beutiful you are. They will never see you. They could care less what types of models the "Joe Shmo Scam" company has. If they do not want to work with the company, they will not be working w/ the models.

Most modeling agencies (including all the big ones w/ the best reputations) refuse to accept picture submission for agency representation consideration by email b/c they do not want to worry about catching any viruses. If you have already developed a personal relationship w/ these agencies and they know who you are, they will open the email you have sent. But if you had a relationship w/ an agency already you would not need to pay these people to "market" you by emailing your "digitol composite card." Besides, do you actually think any of the legitimate agencies trust these people? No, they do not. Even if you do have model potential there will be a stigma attatched to you for dealing with these people. Do you really want to ruin your reputation before you even get started after losing all your money? Market your self. It's sooooooo easy to do.

1. Determine what your modeling capabilities are.
( what categories you fit in to)
If you are female, 5'8+ and your hips are under 36 inches you may qualify for fashion. (males between 6'0"-6'2") Everyone else may qualify for commercial print and promotional work.
It is best if you have good skin and teeth either way.

2. Have a friend or family member take several polaroid pictures of yourself.

3. go to "nearme.com" to locate all modeling agencies in your local area or check the yellow pages.

4. Research the agencies. Come to this site. See if any negative reports have been filed against them. (keep in mind, all negative reports are not always truthful, use your best judgement)

5. If you have huge doubts about a particular company or agency and are considering handing over a ton of money for photo packages or a posting site, go to your state's Department of Occupational Safety website and see if there is someone w/in the state that you can contact that can let you know if the agency is legitimate or not. (make sure that they are licensed w/in the state.)

6. Determine which agencies are full service (works w/ all models) and which ones specialize in a particular type of modeling. Sometimes the agency has a website which can be helpful, or you can call them and ask. Send your pictures in the regular U.S. mail to all the agencies in your area where you feel that you may fit their criteria. You can also order the "Model Directory" Peter Glenn Publications. (a yearly updated directory of agencies all over the U.S.) Or Models Mart "The New York Model's Black Book" which lists and categorizes all the agencies in NY as well as listing showrooms and test photographers.

You will need professional pictures at some point if you are pursuing a career in modeling but let a legitimate agency set you up w/ a test photographer or point you in the right direction as to where you can go to get the best quality pictures that will market you to your ful potential.

What Anthony doesn't tell you is that he is the former owner of several offices that were part of the Options, eModel, TCT, Wilhelmina, Fashion Rock-whatever you'd like to call them-offices. A pile of Sh** by any other name still stinks! Anthony may deny having any ties to Fasion Rock, now, but he's only distanced himself after several attacks on his character and businesses in the Detroit area, as well as the failure of all of his former businesses (those offices that were associated with Lous Perlman's businesses). Take note that *NONE* of the boy bands Anthony mentioned are under Lou's management, anymore. In fact, N'Sync sued him, and the Backstreet Boys are disbanded.

I have worked for Anthony, and know him personally. After working for approximately a year in a prominent, in-office position, I can tell you that he stands as a metaphor for his company, and all those with which he's been associated:

He is handsome at first sight (just like the offers the comany makes you), and easy to want to believe. In the end, however, Anthony is out for number one. You would be *amazed* at how much money is to be made in the "scam" business. He has never *truly* been part of the modeling, acting, or music industry, rather the "entrepreneurship" industry.

Any company that asks for payment upfront, be it a "scouting network," an "event sales company," or even a business that calls itself an agency, is *NOT* the manner in which someone can be helped, discovered, or made successful. It is true, there *are* agencies and businesses online that can help you gain the exposure, and acquire the knowledge it takes to become a working actor, model, or musician, but those are free to take part in, as well. A *REAL* agent collects on the *LEGAL* commission he or she makes once you've received work.

To make it in "the biz" takes a lot of hard work and dedication, as anyone will tell you. ***There are no short cuts!!!*** If you are sensitive, lazy, or complacent, this is not the line of work you're looking for. If someone makes you an offer that sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Give yourself, and those who approach you a chance, but not without doing your research. Even Anthony will tell you that!

Sell your 8 track player there's a new way to listen to music, they call them CDs. Just like there is a new way of getting discovered. In the past your hard work and endless auditioning was the way to go. Today you don't have to go through all that. A Lot has changed in 19 years when you got started. The internet was born.

I don't mean to attack you but you have your information all wrong. You couldn't have done much research.

One Source Talent is not TCT. TCT stands for Trans Continental Talent, which was a company, owned by Lou Pearlman the great boy band mogul. Lou created the backstreet boys and n'sync and is now a part of Fashion Rock LLC which is an event sales company. Fashion Rock is a talent competition usual held in Orlando Florida, at a beautiful resort with musical acts provided. You never know what celebrities will attend. Oh and by the Trans Continental Records is also owned by Lou Pearlman, TCR is still operating The deal between TCT and Options Talent was rescinded in October or December of 2003 well something like that. Options Talent is in bankrupcy. You can ask Mark Tolner the exact date if it means anything to you.
