Our bank phone and notified us of a suspicious mastercard transaction.

One was a $2 amount on 31 Jan, then a monthly $49.95 charge in Feb and March.

The transaction description was

800-XXXXXXXXXONLINSUPLIER for each of these transactions.

I looked this up on google, came across the entries in ripoffreport and thus found onlinesupplier.com. I phoned their 1800 number, and actually spoke to an operator. Not bad going for a Sunday.

He asked for my credit card number. Since I had just cancelled it, I gave it out and he was able to look up the history.

The operator's system showed that someone had joined their hosting plan on 31 Jan, using an IP address which could well have been in Australia.

He was not able to present evidence of anyone logging into that account. He said a confirmation email would have been sent out when I joined in January. I did not receive this email. Needless to say I never actually joined this plan.

It was interesting the operator mentioned that since I was paid up until end of April, then he suggested that I might as well make use of the service until then. You can read into it what you like, but it makes it very difficult for me to dispute the transaction if I have used the service.

The other thing which gave me pause is that he said the username was the email address I used to join up, and that the default password was my phone number. To use the entered phone number as a default or initial password is unorthodox at best. Also you would reasonably expect to be forced to change it during the confirmation step with a custom use-once URL sent in the confirmation email.
