After reviewing my credit report in June 2010 I realized that my lower score would require a sizable down payment or co-signed which I did not have available. I decided to take a look at Car City which seemed to have a large lot full of what appeared to be quality vehicles.

With an enormous advertising campaign focused on the ability to provide financing for every credit situation combined with quality reliable newer model vehicles and lower down payments this seemed to be a viable option.
Since I had listed my vehicle on Craigslist only to have it sell with in hours, I was defiantly in position to need some as quickly as possible. I sat down with a salesman and indicated what I was looking for, a very reliable newer model year priced so that I would not be upside down at the end of my financing.

After discussing what I qualified for it was determined that I could spend up to 20k for a vehicle. This seemed reasonable to me given that even at higher than average interest rate on a 60 month loan it would be a payment I was comfortable with. As we further discussed the financing the salesman eventually disclosed that the purchase would actually be a lease that would have a 48 month term at the end of which you could simply return the auto mobile or pay a lease end buy out of "only 1500.00".

I inquired at least 6 times as to what the interest rate was that was being used to formulate the payment and what the residual value of the car would be at lease end. The salesman gave his pitch as to how the lease wasn't actually an interest rate but a cost to acquire formula. He also leaned heavily on the warranty that could be financed in to ensure less out of pocket cost.

Only a week after the purchase I realized that nothing was as it had been represented... The car was back for issues starting the next week and 6 more times during the warranty period of 1 year.     I finally took the car to a trusted mechanic who provided me with an estimate to even make the vehicle safe to drive. The total repairs would be 2600.00, which just about what book value was on the vehicle.  The dealer agreed to fix the items and only charge me 500.00 which was added to my debt.. I had no choice as I couldn't do with out a car nor could I spend 2600 on a car valued at that same amount.

The unfortunate part is that the repairs that were "supposedly made" never corrected the issues. I trip back to my mechanic confirmed the repairs were not done. Though I signed a document requesting that any replaced parts not be discarded and returned to me... that never occurred. How sad that any company could take advantage of someone who simply wanted to establish better credit.

No Such Thing!!!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Back to my original statement...there is no such thing as "the purchase is a lease".  You haven't a clue what you got into.  You also say you have this trusted mechanic friend...OK good.  Why didn't you take this car to him BEFORE you got into this CAR FLEASE?  You bit off more than you can chew here because you didn't know what you were getting into.  You didn't "PURCHASE" anything.  Its a CAR FLEASE.  The salesman even told you that but you moved forward at breakneck speed when anybody who knows would have told you to avoid a CAR FLEASE.  Enjoy your car and being FLEASED.
