Hello, This is Parvathi from India. I am a Hindi and Telugu translator. Yesterday, I was approached by, ouitranslate.com/ to do a English to Hindi Advertisement translation. Since, it was a rush job, I put forth my rates which they accepted. I asked them to issue a PO which they refused saying they don't have that policy. I did't suspect it then. Immediately, I did the translation and sent it yesterday within a few hours. I just received an email saying that they had hired someone else and that too after they received my translated document. This company is one hell of a fraud. Please do not work with them. I have proof of this in the form emails and their screenshots.

true - shady agency

I have worked for them and I can tell you this doesn't surprise me. They have no respect of translators' work, going as far as having someone who doesn't understand the language change the translator's final version for whatever reason. When the client complains of the atrocious mistake, blame falls on the contractor translator. 

Followup with translators after a translation request is very poor, often creating this type of misunderstanding (the translator delivers the text only to find it has already been done by somebody else). In these cases, the company always refuses to pay, claiming the translator should have replied to their PO email within minutes to accept or decline the request. 

Over a third of the employees are unpaid interns and the few employees endure constant pressure to work overtime, often being bashed by management. The operations manager (whom I shall not name) works as a reviewer although she is underqualified and has very limited linguistic skills. All editing work is hastily done in order to meet the ridiculously short deadlines. 

I refused to sign a contract with them after my probationary period because I just couldn't stand their lack of serious.

Dear Mrs Parvathi Pappu,

I can understand that you would find it unacceptable for an agency to refuse to honour its payment commitments towards a translator, if the said translator did fulfil her part of the agreement. It would be appropriate, however, to be totally honest about your account of events pertaining to our dispute. In order to remove any ambiguity, I should like to clarify the following facts :

1° We did indeed request a translation job from you, Mrs Paravahi Pappu. This job consisted in a 45-word document, and was required within a short time frame. The translator (you), agreed to this time frame in exchange for the billing of a rush fee. 

2° It is true that, under such circumstances (very short-term projects), we do not provide a purchase order. We do, however, address a confirmation e-mail including the following details :

REFERENCE NUMBER
TRANSLATOR'S NAME
CLIENT
DEADLINE 
LANGUAGE PAIR(S)
QUOTE
NOTES/INSTRUCTIONS

This e-mail serves as a purchase order, and binds both the agency and the translator as soon as the latter agrees to the conditions by return of e-mail. Up to this point, we had an agreement.

3° The translator (you), did not deliver your work at the designated time (even though you had agreed to the deadline in exchange for a rush fee). Without any news fromyour part and now committed towards our client, we had, as a matter of top priority, to entrust the job to another translator who completed the task within the agreed time frame. We did receive an email from your behalf, after the agreed deadline, indicating you were sending us the translated document attached, but such document was never attached to your mail.

4° In view of this, and since you did not fulfil your part of the deal which consisted in delivering a translation at a specific time, we do not intend to fulfil ours and will not issue the payment. 

5° It is now up to you to denounce a fraud. I personally trust that all the translators whom we work with on a regular or occasional basis, and who are pleased with our cooperation, will think differently about it. You may decide upon tarnishing our agency's reputation, in which case I shall defend it as well as warn all my fellow colleagues who may need to retain your services. 

I can be reached by e-mail or telephone, and am available to answer any questions regarding this manner, or to provide all the e-mail exchanges between my team and Mrs Paravahi Pappu.

Hi Parvathi, I'm also a freelance translator and I'm working since many years with ouitranslate... it's one of my most important work relations and I never ever experienced the minor problem with them. They are highly professional, efficient, honest, transparent, it"s a real pleasure to work with them and I absolutely do NOT agree with your comment here... maybe the cause of your problem is a kind of misunderstanding or even a lack of professionalism from your side... I think before spreading publically negative feedback about a company you bearly even know and never have really worked with, you maybe should have tried to settle the conflict or misunderstanding together with them trying to reach a consensus ... I only can say that I"m really happy with my longlasting regular business relation I have with ouitranslate!!! Maybe you should give them a second chance?
