I've been fighting with AT&T since 1998 about this dept. I initially informed them that there were fraudulent charges on my bill. They stated that they'd correct it, but never did.

A year later I get a collection letter from them wanting the money that I don't owe. I wrote them again, but never heard back.

2 years later same thing and again I never hear a word from them.

Then recently I checked my credit and find that AT&T has turned the fraudulent charges over to this rip-off company. They either don't answer the phone or are rude and will not help you. Return receipt letters are not accepted.

Now I'm retiring from the military and am hoping to buy a home for the first time, but this is ruining my credit and either I'll not be able to get a mortgage or will be charged interest way more than I should because of this.

I really believe the AT&T doesn't care about it's customers, just money and gives these "debts" to Palisades just to keep it on the customers credit as long as possible. What happened to the days when the customer was right?

And to make matters worse, it's listed twice on my credit report. Once as Palisades of Englewood Cliffs, NJ and again as Palisades Collections, of Englewood, NJ.

Reporting this to a credit reporting agency, asking them to have it removed doesn't help either. All they did was customer reports debt result of fraudulent charges. What about having it removed. These CRA's only care about what these companies tell them not the people like me. They give you very little way to give them any decent information on the situation so that they can come to the proper conclusion.

All I want is this off my credit. There must be a way.

Ask for a reinvestigation

AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 20, 2005

Tell the credit reporting agency IN WRITING that you want a reinvestigation of the innaccurate items under Section 611 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. They are supposed to promptly remove "inaccurate or unverifiable information" from the credit report after a reinvestigation.

You can recover actual damages and attorney's fees under a Fair Credit Report Act lawsuit or you can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. It's probably worth consulting with an attorney in your area to see what rights you might have against AT&T and/or the collection agency.
