Traveling to St John? Avoid renting in or above Cruz Bay unless you're ready for some major construction and town noise. Don't rent Peace o Heaven Villa under any circumstances. The owners were not forthcoming about the major construction project going on nearby even when asked about the noise directly.

Vacation Rental by Owner (VRBO) allows the owners to reject the reviews of the property so you can't trust what you read. Use a real estate agent. You will get a much nicer property for the same money and honest information about the conditions. Peace o Heaven Villa was indeed a Ripoff and so far from it's name as to be laughable. It was so noisy (construction, town noise, neighbors) that even with ear phones and a loud air conditioner, 4 days into our stay we had to rent another property for the remaining 6 days of our stay.

This is a very expensive way to travel. The owners were unapologetic and just suggested we purchase $300 ear phones to drown out the sound. They refused to take any responsibility for their dishonesty about the condition of the property or to provide any financial redress for the fact that we had to move. The major point is that for the money this house is a ripoff and you won't have a peaceful vacation at all.
