Pep Boys Price markup on parts done for travelers in need. ripoff Chicago Illinois

I got stranded in Chicago, Il when my fuel pump stopped working. Got the truck towed to Pep Boys thinking it would be a reputable place.

They got me in the next day, called and said it needed a new fuel pump and the total would be $1,096.

They got done and handed me the bill. $630 for a AC Delco fuel pump and told me they had to mark it up 20%. I called the local Pep Boys when I got home and they quoted me $520 for the same pump, included the Pep Boys mark up.

I looked over the bill before paying and noticed labor charges for things that were not on the truck, like skid plate removal and wiring shield removal. I questioned those fees and they were removed.

Past that when I got the old fuel pump back the mechanic said the hose was laying on the inside. IF he would of hooked the hose back up the 1,000 miles fuel pump would of worked again.

I did get them to provide me with a discount off the bill as well. It still ended up being a $930 repair for fuel pump and fuel filter.
