I began my journey at Post Univisity in 2012. As I started school I ensured that my communication with my academic advisor and financial advisor has always been consistent and clear. I would email or call for follow up questions to ensure that everything we (both advisors) planned is still on track. The plan was to complete my associates while obtaining my bachelor's. I had financial aid as well as a Pell Grant. I would receive a disbursement for my books and supplies instead of paying for them through the school ( way more affordable). This was the plan we all communicated, agreeded to and made effective. If anything changes with plan on my end I ensured to loop both advisors in over phone or in an email so we can update or revise plan and continue forward. My a academic advisor (Chaylce Jacobs) was wonderful. She would contact me if plan changed or if she had any suggestions and then would ensure to have me call my financial advisor (Matthew Vinning) to update him. Honestly the first couple of years Matt was great with communication which is why when this incident happen it took me completely off guard. A few months ago I emailed Matt regarding a disbursement. Another advisor emailed me back explain I ran out of financial aid.
At this point im completely confused and attmpted to email Matt. (No response) I spoke to some sort of management regarding my concern. I explained that I was not warned, made aware or even communicated that this was happening, or even a possibility because me and both my advisors had a game plan. I questioned why would you enroll me in course (managing my financial aid) that I couldn't complete? The manager responded "you have been getting disbursments through out your career at Post that's why you ran out" Now tell me if im wrong but im sure me, Matt, and Chaylce had a game plan . If taking disbursement would run me out of financial aid WHY DIDN'T ANYONE SAY SOMETHING!! And 2 his response is incompetent. I had to buy my tools either way for the course so if Post University purchased books for me (way more expensive then me doing it on my own) they would have still taken amount out my financial aid. So the entirety of this situatuon is my financial aid advisor set me up for failure because either way ( if me taking disbursement or the school taking it for books) I was going to run out. This is so frustrating as i only have 4 course left untill my degree.
So now I am stuck with these student loans for a degree I didn't obtain. My last complaint is when i was taking my last course I enrolled 3-4 months before I got this news. I had already started and finished the class for them to turn around and tell oh yeah. You ran out of financial aid and can't pay for last class you completed so now you have a balance of $1800. Are you kidding me. So now you charge me for a class that I was under the impression was covered by my aid. They honestly are so unprofessioanl its ridiculous. No one contacted me before I enrolled in the course to say hey you will have to pay this out of pocket. No one. So now I cant even transfer my credits to complete my degree untill I make the bogus payment for a class I was not aware I was being call for. I am so disgusted with the financial aid department. What are you doing if you can not advise students on their financial aid. That is your job. I will be contacting a lawyer because this is unacceptable.
