Roxann and Carl J (((REDACTED))) We made arangements to pay a debt and they agree   d to put only the word settled or resolution on our credit report. Once they received payment via western union they put seyyled for less on my and my husbands report. Our score dropped and now we cant get a home financed.    I had worked with two other companies the same day and they held up our agreements knowing we were trying to buy a home.

I dont know why they told me one thing and did another. I would have tried another time instead if I had known they were going to crucify me. Ive tried the BBB but all I got from Preffered Credit was [ It is our right to put that is was setttled for less. It is also their duty to uphold their word dealing with peoples futures. I just read your info on 1099 and realized I was sent one from this company in the last two years and did not know what it was. That makes this even more frusterating since that was supossedly a forgiven debt. We would appreciate any help we are trying every forum we can find.  Roxann and Carl J(((REDACTED))) Crystal River Florida

After reading information gained from your sight, I found the 1099c form Preffered Credit sent me for the 2011 tax year. I dont know how or why, but I do beleive that once they are sent a copy along with all 3 credit beaureas I wont have to worry about them again. Also they should be obligated to refund the ammount I sent to them. YEAH!!!

May not be ethical but legal

The arrangement you made with them is actually a lie to others. You paid for a portion of the debt (settle for less) but expected them to omit the fact in your credit report.

That said, it is unethical of them for not keeping their words with you. Sadly, it is legal that they can leave the truth in your credit report without omitting or changing the words. I do not see that you can change the fact that you are not credit worthy because you are not (at least for a while). I hope this is a lesson learned, and you need to be more careful in spending from now on. There is no excuse for not paying back if you borrow/loan from others because you need to understand the consequences. This is a harsh consequence and hope you will always remember it.
