I wish I had read some of the other reports here and done more research before using Priceline.com to "name my own bid" on a hotel room.

I recently was successful in obtaining a winning bid for an allegedly 4 star hotel in Savannah, Georgia. Unfortunately, the reviews all over the internet are anything but. Comments such as "think walls, and loud and noisy", "shabby and rundown rooms", "musty", "not 4 star quality, subpar", etc, are all over the internet about this hotel.

While Priceline rates it as 4 star and they claim Orbitz does too (not actually true, Orbitz rates it as 3.8/5), there are other travel sites such as Experida, Hotels.com and Kayak that all rate it between 3.0-3.5 starts.  When I told them that more importantly, regardless of what all of these travel sites say, an independent company who has made for themselves rating hotels, AAA, rated this a 3/5 diamonds, the "customer service" agent had the audacity to argue that "well, that's diamonds, not stars." Really? Splitting hairs much?

When I complained to Priceline that as a lawyer, I consider this to be a clear misrepresentation, that I did not receive the benefit of the bargain, that it was detrimental reliance on the part of the consumer, and quite possibly fraud in the inducement, I was blown off by their useless and impolite customer service (who they should probably just get rid of entirely, since they do nothing more than repeat "no refunds, no refunds" over and over).  I have no qualms about paying for a true 4 star, but the hotel I received isn't one.

I will now open a dispute with my credit card company. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB, and may look at the FTC and my State Attorney General as there are thousands of complaints against Priceline on the internet. I will also be contacting the CEO of the company directly.
