I applied for a "debt consolidation" loan from Prosper and went through the entire process to find out two payments in that the "prepaid finance charge" listed on the truth in lending form and which was explained to me by Prosper's employee as a deposit of interest was actually a $1,500 "one time, non-refundable origination fee." I am now stuck repaying a $30,000 loan, of which only $28,500 was deposited into my account. I have received "debt consolidation" loans before with no origination fee and when I spoke to Propser they informed me they do not do "debt consolidation" loans despite their home page clearly listing an option to apply for debt consolidation loans. Their vague and ambiguous terminology on their forms and their employees lack of understanding the loans terms involved leads to one feeling mislead and cheated at a point of vulnerability. They will take advantage of anyone. With everything said and done and all documents reviewed, the term "origination fee" is nowhere to be found on any pages signed in connection with the loan. This is a BAD way of doing business!
