My car was towed last week by Quality Towing. The driver of the truck used a wrecker instead of a flat bed truck, he had my car in park when he tried to tow it away, and he had it at such a steep angle that he scraped my tail pipe along the road.

He also parked it at the mechanic's shop right in front of a gate, so the following day it was backed into by the mechanic (who DID take care of that damage!)

Because of all this, I now have a ruined tire (pinched tire, bent rim, completely flat), a scraped tailpipe, and a dent in my front bumper.

When I reported this to Quality Towing, they refused to call me back until I told them I had filed a complaint with AAA. I brought my car to them, and they denied that they caused any damage. All I asked them to do was replace the tire that they ruined. When I called AAA to file the complaint, they checked with Quality Towing, who then claimed that they towed my car from the rear, which is absolutely untrue. My mechanic, the person who brought me to the tow truck and witnessed it hitched, and the person who parked my car earlier that day are all 100% positive that the car was towed from the front.

So, they flat out lied to AAA and refuse to take care of this issue. It is currently under investigation.

Lauren, sometimes you will sustain damage from a tow

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 21, 2006

The plastic underneath cars gets brittle after a few years, and when the car is put on a lift, it will sometimes break. That's why I asked you year, make, model. The damage could occur no matter which end of the car was lifted, even for a turn-around. We sometimes drag cars, but only if we have to, and never for very far. You say it was an AAA call.

AAA doesn't own one tow truck that I know of, they simply call a tower on that will work almost for free. I get calls from road-service companies, but I refuse all but one, out of California, because they actually know the towing business and won't gyp me.

Being contracted to some stay-at-home welfare mom with a computer and a telephone, sitting in her garage in Texas, trying to dispatch my trucks for chump change, to places she's never heard of, isn't how I roll. If someone out there tells me they actually drive a AAA-OWNED towtruck, I stand corrected.

Please let me know how the "investigation" is going. I'm sure Quality Towing is terrified of AAA and their cheap rates.

Main point is that they lied and denied damage.

The police were not called, it was AAA. Quality towing showed up late, lied about what time the call came in, and then lied to AAA about how the car was towed in. They claim it was towed from the rear, which would make the damage impossible. But it was definitely towed from the front, and I have many witnesses to prove it. I did not ask for a new car, I didn't even ask them to fix everything that they damaged. I only asked for the replacement of one tire, even tough I ended up having to get four.

Aside from all of this, the keys were with the car, they knew where to find them, so any damage was unnecessary. And this company has been known to break into cars on site, and another mechanic saw them tow a car into their lot with the brakes still on, so the tires were smoking! Sounds like a real "quality" company to me!

What kind of car is it? Make, model?

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Who called for the tow? It the police call for a tow they want the car moved, period. They don't care if we drag it by the door handle, they just want it gone. Many times we will move a car by dragging it in park, can't be helped if we don't have the keys. Then we will turn around and pick up the drive-wheel end, so the model of the car dictates how we tow it.

AAA used to have manuals stating how they want each model towed and what type of truck was needed, but they stopped, probrably because of complaints from irate car owners that sustained damage. Expect a fight in court, because many people think the tow company owes them a new car, money, and a vacation in the Bahamas, in addition to fixing every little scratch or damage the car has ever sustained. They'll leave that up to the judge.
