In July of 2013 we purchased a new fridge from R C Willey home furnishings and appliances.  It was made by Fridgeidare and costs $2,000.00.  One would expect it to work!  But if would not get very cold.  So after a few days and complaining they sent out a new fridge.  But it had the same problem.  Our food was going bad and my husband and I drank some milk that was going bad .  My husband got a stomach ach but apparently a bacteria got into my blood stream and made me very sick.  It took a week for the bacteria to attack my intestines so that I became physically sick.  After four days of vomitting and diarreah, I had blood in my stool.  So my daughter took me to the E. R.  and after some tests,  found out that I was loosing the lining of my intestines and my kidneys were only working at 20%!!!  I was admitted with acute reinal failure.  I was in the hospital for four painful days and nights.  Mostly trying to save my kidneys, but getting a lot of antibiotics to fight the infection.  After I came home I still couldn't eat anything but sips of water to take my pills.  I was miserable for about another two weeks before I regained my strength.  So basiclly I lost the whole month of August, several hundred dollars worth of food that went bad, and now I am stuck with a hospital bill of over $8,000!!!!!  And durring the whole time I was sick RC Willey kept saying they can fix the fridge, servicemen came and went and nothing worked.

Finally my husband went down to the General manager of the Orem store, told him that his wife was in the hospital and demanded they remove the faulty fridge.  This whole ordeal started July 7th and went on for weeks until we finally got a new fridge from another company in September.  R C Willey has a "No Lemon" policy, which basically states that if they attempt to repair an item three times for the exact same thing , and they fail, they will give you a new item.  Well that is all well and good if the item is a chair or a dresser.  But when it is refrigeration?  Something that can make people very sick?  Maybe they need to to sued so this won't happen to anybody else.  If I had been elderly or I had small children, it may have killed someone.  I would be interested in an attorney that would take on such a case, like a personal injury lawyer.  I don't think I should have to pay the medical bills, and it was very painful!!! So BEWARE!!

Thank you for your concers, I wish someone would have listened to us back when we went in to the Orem store.

There are a lot of details that I didn't take the time to put in the first complaint.  First off whent the new fridge failed to get very cold , we waited a couple days thinking with all the food in it it may take awhile to reach the programed temp.  The digital read out said it was 37 in the fresh food area, but after purchasing a thermameter it only was 45 in the back and 50 where we put the milk.  My husband went down to the Orem store ( we live in Heber) and spoke with the salesman Randy,  he ordered a new one to be delivered.  Deliveries only come to Heber on Fridays, so we received a new fridge that Friday.  Both times the delivery guys said that we could put our groceries immediatly in the fridge and it should reach optimal temps in a couple of hours.  Which of course it never did.  We tried raising the digital temp but it didn't make any difference.  We had also purchased an additional ice maker for the freezer section on the bottom.  Neither time did the delivery guys install that ice maker.   My husband called and spoke to customer service, Amanda I think was her name, she sent someone out to service the fridge but when he got there he said he didn't do the icemaker installation, the delivery guys should have.  He gave us a number for the Heber Valley Appliance store, we called and Chris came out a few days later to look at why it wasn't getting cold. Water was spraying all over the freezer part, freezing up the rollers so he said we had to unplug the fridge, take everything out AGAIN!  Let it sit for 24 hours, until it was good and warm, then wait annother 24 hours, then plug it back in, don't put food in just put the thermameters in.  wait for another 24 hours to see if it gets cold.  Our 19 year old GE fridge was still in the garage so we plugged it in and used that for the next several weeks.  It still works better than the new one from RC Willey!  Then Chris came back and while on the phone with Fridgedaire he tested several different things, he didn't find anything obvious so he said give it another 24 hours then call him.  Of course there was no change so I called him,  I also drove down to Speak with Amanda AGAIN, and she tried to tell me that we waited too long to talk to her!!  I was VERY upset by this piont and told her ALL the things that we already HAD done.  She explained the No-Lemon policy and she assured me that I would get satisfaction.  So going off her word, she called Chris at Heber Valley Appiances and he told her that he thought it could be fixed, eventually.  So he AND another serviceman from R C Willey came out the next day.  Chris tore the fridge apart, and the R C Willey guys installed the icemaker.  Chris saw that the icemaker was not linig up correctly and told the R C Willey guy and they discovered that the bracket that held the icemaker in place was faulty and would not allow water to properly go into the machine.  So they fixed that with a new bracket.  (Later I read on the internet that these icemakers have this problem)  Chris could not find the problem , even with Fridgidaire on the phone!!  So he put the fridge back together and said he would have to order a new computer part that controlled the temps.  That's when I started to get sick and ended up in the hospital.  The next day we received a call that Chris could not find ANY parts to repair the fridge in the whole western United States!!!  That was it , my husband went BACK to the Orem store and asked to see the General Manager.  He told him the whole story and how I was in the hospital with kidney failure and the manager agreed to have the fridge picked up the following Friday and then issue us a refund.  The whole ordeal covered almost two whole months.  I believe that R C Willey needs to rethink it's "NO-Lemon" policy with regards to refridgeration!!!  People can and do get sick if the products they sell to store food, don't work properly.  I also don't think this was my fault, I sufford GREATLY, and Now I have to pay a large hospital bill on top of almost dying!!!!  What can you do for me?  Make it right!!  My insurance paid some of the bill, R C Willey can pay the rest, as well as some money for all the food I had to throw away.  If I take it to an attorney , they will add thousands of dollars on and try to make some kind of statement.  I just want what's fair.

I'm not stupid.

I am not stupid, I would not nor could not drink milk that smelled bad.  The temp in the fridge that held the milk was only down to 50.  So the milk was cool and it was mixed with a choclate flavored cereal which masked the somewhat bad flavor.  I am sure that you have eaten something that just tasted OFF, but it wasn't sour.  The milk can have the bacteria in it with out smelling or tasting sour.  After speaking with the Utah state Health Department when they called and interviewed me, I was told that the MOST LIKELY culprit was the milk.  It wasn't my idea.  Over the six weeks that we argued with R.C. Willey about the fridge we threw away 6 gallons of milk that DID smell bad when we opened them.  I am almost 57 years old, I do not have any immune dissorders, but according to the CDC 124 people a year die from the same bacteria I got.  It usually does not make people as sick as it made me but , " Campylobacter occasionally spreads to the bloodstream and causes a serious life-threatening infection" CDC quote.  I was the one in the hospital, I was the one speaking to Doctors and to the Health Dept.  I am not a stupid person just seeking financial retribution, I was in some serious pain, and I could have died.  This is not something I take lightly.  What If I or my husband were elderly?  What if one of my young grandchildren had some of the milk?  Something needs to be done to protect other people from this happening to them, they may not be so lucky.  R.C. Willey needs to change their policy with regards to refridgeration.  I  truley do not believe that I should have to pay the hospital bill!!!

Frigidaire Refrigerator Repair

AUTHOR: rcwilley - ()

POSTED: Friday, October 18, 2013

Julee,

I'm RC Willey's Online Reputation Manager. I'm sorry about the issues that you had with your refrigerator. I apologize for any inconveneince that this may have caused after your purchase and throughout the attempts to fix/repair/replace it.

After a purhcase is made and the item is in a customers home, we typcally try and determine if it can be repaired first if there is an issue. That way we can tell if it is a simply repair or not. And yes, our No Lemon Guarantee does state the following:

"If we service and repair your appliance or electronic product twice during the first year you own it and it then fails a third time within that first year, we will replace it. Of course, we will need to have authorized service technicians verify that each of the failures were due to legitimate product defects."

I do apologize for the ordeal that you went through. Please let me know if there is anything that hasn't been taken care of or if I can do anything else to resolve the issue. I'd be happy to follow up with our management.

smells fishy.....

First, how exactly are you going to blame them for YOU drinking the spoiled milk. Second, much like this story bad milk smells bad. Third, you MIGHT get something for the food going bad, but no court in the land would ever award you money based on the fact that YOU drank bad milk. Bad milk has a smell and a flavor that would lead you to believe that it is bad. Nice try though, I have to give you credit for the attempt, but no one is going to buy that you didnt know the milk was bad. No one is going to conect the dots on this one. The only thing you can state for sure is that both you and your husband got sick. WHAT it was from is still up for debate.
