Our local cable company was bought out some time ago and have had junk for tv reception ever since. Within the last 3 weeks the local NBC channel was a "snowy" picture and no sound. The Weather Channel works, then doesn't work and just this morning I wake up to no reception at all on ANY channel. And this has been over the last 3 weeks alone.

Super Bowl Sunday I was treated to a blank screen from 2 minutes into the 2 quater and got to see 2/3's of the 2nd half of the game. Rapid Cable blamed in in vandalism.

As for the local NBC channel, Rapid Cable said it was not thier fault, that it was the fault of the feed to them from the station. Rapid Cable even scrolled across the screen that it wasn't their fault. Yet, after contacting the the TV station, they said it wasn't them and even offered Rapid Cable tech assistance to help resolve the problem. Which was refused from what I understand.

Each time I had a problem with the cable tv, I called friends and family that also had Rapid Cable and they are having the same problems. Next I call the company and they have been nice enough to offer to send somone out to check the lines and connections until I mention that I wasn't the only one having the same problems. THEN the story changes.

When asked if there would be any kind of rebate for the lost service I was paying for the answer is pretty much the same, "Sorry but that is not a possibility." You would think if you pay for a service and not recieve that service then there should be a refund of some sort.

I have tolerated the excuses of interupted reception for nearly 2 years now.(1)"You are having the problem because it is part of upgrading the system." (2)"Not our fault! "It's the feed to us." (3)"Solar flares are playing havoc with all types of communication." (4)"Are you SURE that you don't have a problem with your tv?" (5)"Vandals did something somewhere to our equipment." (6)"Auto accident took out a service pole." etc.

I'm not accusing Rapid cable of out right lying to me each time I call but, there always seems to be some excuse.

Now that satillite tv in our area offers local channels it looks like I am going to have to consider a change. If this report finds it's way back into the proper hands and improvement is seen, it just might have been worth it.

Rapid Cable Internet

AUTHOR: Snickersmomma - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 21, 2008

I have rapid cable internet, but not their cable, we have dish network for that. Seems the service runs smoothly for a period of time, then suddenly problems occur, calls to their answering service go unanswered. We are usually told someone vandalized the lines somewhere when my husband calls the next day.

When the service works, its fast, which is why I keep it. I live out in the country where any other fast service is unavailable except for satellite service, which is pricey. If Verizon does finally make it to our area, I'd switch in a minute as their lack of customer service is pitiful, they've gone so far as to get really hateful with my husband and refuse to give out their corporate offices phone number and we cannot find it anywhere.

They have credited my bill for service interruption and seems every year about Super Bowl time, we loose service. Overall, I'd rate the company a 4, but I keep them because I do a lot of work on the computer that requires me to have a fast connection, school and such.

The local office is not a friendly office to deal with and this morning I wake to find files in my email are gone, saved emails are gone, grad files are gone! Its all gone and I cannot get ahold of the company to see whats up with that!

#7 Consumer Suggestion

enviroment and excuses

AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 21, 2006

Having worked for many cable companies, and having subscribed to mutiple dish providers, I have some knowledge of this situation. Many cable companies give 'excuses' because consumers don't want to hear, 'I don't know' or 'let me check into that for you and call you back'. Dish vs. cable is an old fight. dish can be fine, some people have perfect service, others have problems everytime it gets a little cloudy, that's based on location and enviroment. pros' for dish are when it's good it's great, usually more channels for lesser price, good deals for free service, works everywhere whereas cable service has to be run along the lines. cons: is more apt to be affected by weather than cable is, have to sign contract, they charge for service issues, costs more to have multiple rooms per month, many dish systems charge for the equipment, high speed internet is not stable and is very costly for equipment. Cable pros, no contract, no cost for service calls that are cable problem related, most have a cheap insurance that will provide non cable responsible support, Higher bandwidth capability on internet, no dish on your house, able to be upgraded to get more channels without upgrading home equipment, no purchase required on most equipment in the home. When a new cable company takes over they're stuck spending money on repairing or replacing what the previous provider did not bother doing. There's gonna be problems with each one, just remember the support agents on the other end of the phone are just as frustrated as you because they have to listen to your problem and the exact same problem from a thousand other people over and over again and are limited in what they can do to fix it. But there are those that will go the extra mile to try and make you happy.

Hi its me again don't know if you will get this

AUTHOR: Troy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 03, 2006

but I ran acrross some stats that you may find interesting

Out of all of the homes in the USA that have dish the average cost of there monthly bill is $78.00 a month, and the average cost of cable homes is $67.00 a month. Now this is only for video services. Prices do not include any internet services or special discounted rates. Thanks and hope this helps you.

Switched From Cable - So Much Happier

AUTHOR: Tina - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 14, 2006

I had cable (another company) for over 20 years. I believed all the talk about dishes of outtages and fees, yada yada. Finally just got fed up with cable and their rising costs and less channels that a person could actually watch (unless a box was rented for each room). A few months ago I switched to a dish and have been so much happier. With dish I've got DVR and more channels that I could actually watch. The best part though ... the cost is less!! More bang for the buck! The claims of outtages just are not true. I live in a major city and we've had some nasty wind, rain and snow in the past couple of months. Not 1 outtage! Definitely look into the different options available to you. You can get a number of rebates, deals, etc.

Good luck!

Tina

get a grip

AUTHOR: Troy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 14, 2006

what cable companies mean when they say you can't watch a movie when you want to means you have to wait for the movie to start and the movies start time may not be when you wanted to watch it. Because Dish companies cannot offer video on demand like most cable companies can. If the cable co. in your area says you don't have to wait to watch a movie then they probably have VOD "video on demand" which means you can start a movie that you want to watch at what ever time you want to and you can also pause rewind and fastforward the VOD service with out having a DVR, it will work through a regular digital cable box, you just wouldn't be able to record programs without the DVR box. you also can order ppv's with cable, Dish or Direct are not the only companies that you can get ppv movies through.
Joe it is pretty obvious you work for Direct tv. The internet through the dish companies sucks. it may be fast one second and then it is like dial up for a while plus you have to get that big ugly grey thing mounted in your yard or on your house, which if you do get one don't let them put it on your roof like most of the installers like to do , they just put screws right through your shingles and caulk over it and over time you start to get a wet spot on the wood in the attic and eventually the leak gets to the dry wall on the ceiling . If your Tv reception is bad call for a service call more than likely there is something wrong with the wires outside, one of the biggest things people do is if there tv pic gets bad they think that it is just part of the service and acept it until it drives them nuts, then they call the cable company to complain about the bad service, and a service tech comes out and fixes the problem that could of been alot sooner if they would of just called for a service problem instead of thinking the the cable service is bad. Even though alot of cable channels are analog the picture should be clear

Do the dish - cable lies about dish bad reception

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 03, 2005

Do what I did and dump cable. I went DirecTv and never was happier. I used to buy into that crapola they spewed about rain and wind knocking out service.

I live in a really windy area and have had great reception in 40mph winds AND a serious downpour. I can count 12 dishes from my vantage point in my town and that accounts for about 40% of the homes I can see. Everyone I talk to in my neighborhood who switched to dish is happy as a clam!

You also get a DVR and can order Pay-Per-View...so what their angle is that you can't watch a movie when you want to is all a lie!

Now you can still get internet via cable and not TV, but you can also now get high-speed internet via satellite as well...if you want to go that way. I also got sick of only watching the local teams on NFL...never ever my team. Now I never miss them.

Switch to dish...you won't regret it! Make sure to take others with you and let your cable company know where you're going and exactly why!

Rapid Cable internet Not much better

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 02, 2005

I have Rapid cable Tv as well as the internet service. I too experienced the same issues with rapid cable, and would like to add that some channels are near unwatchable most of the time. Below channel 8 every channel has some sort of distortion, and the lower channels get worse. This is not unique to my location, other houses on the Rapid cable system in clinton have the same issues on the same channels.

The internet service is also sub-par. Some days it will work, others it will not. On the days that it does work, the service is great, low ping/high speed and everything is good. OTher times the connection will be out for days, or so intermittent during the day that no email can be read or surfing done. The line is sometimes used form my home to maintain the webpages that I contorl for work.

I call repeatedly to the support line and leave messages that the service is out, but no calls are returned and the issue if resolved is only temporary.

Rapid Cable has refunded money for down service times, but it is very tedious to dispute the bill each and every month for down times. OTher services are not available in my area, you would think that if a company would run a network like this they could maintain a quality network. It is not uncommon for other services in the area, mainly DSL to be available over 98% of the time
