Vonage Service 4 Ripoff 342,323,421 Austin Texas
It takes a minute to sign up. A lifetime to get what is promised. Three weeks to activate service (in my case). Customer service can't hear you, can't see you, haha. When you finally give up on them it takes 5 minutes for them to disconnect your line. Then 3 weeks for it to go back to the original carrier (in my case). No matter that you have had the phone number for 20 years, while their managment is laughing about their vendictive behavior -- your phone will simply have a recording on it that the number is no longer in service. They always pass the buck and blame the other carrier, but it doesn't take much to see they are an evil little group of business amateurs temporarilly milking a niche in internet technology. I should say abusing it. Their business will disappear as soon as their commercials do, unless they can force enough people to stay with them regardless of how they are treated. Their advertisements are simply lies. If someone has a good experience they are limited in their true use of a phone and probably very lucky as well. Jere Austin, TexasU.S.A.

Vonage loves bad profits Internet
I'm afraid that my story is not any different than anyone else here except that I was stupid enough to read the rip-off reports first and then STILL purchase Vonage's service. To be fair, my issue also involves getting an AT&T dry loop installed, which they said they couldn't do because Vonage had taken up the line AT&T needed for the DSL. After some months of monkeying around with both companies and paying Vonage for a service I haven't been able to use for nearly a year, I decided to cancel. You would think that canceling would be easy, but after two runarounds, one disconnect and another conversation with the mysterious Maria, I was finally able to cancel. And - you guessed it! - the cancelation came with an early termination fee because I hadn't fulfilled my TWO year committment (my bad, I guess - I thought it was for one year) and I had to pay back the rebate on my equipment, which apparently was $74.90: As outlined in our Terms of Service, a disconnect fee of $39.99 per voice line is charged to all customers along with any applicable taxes. Your total debit of $114.89 includes this disconnect fee, all pending charges, credits, and applicable taxes. For more information about our return policy, please refer to our Terms of Service:http://www.vonage.com/features_terms_service.php. I told Maria that I would honor the terms of the contract, but she had the opportunity to salvage the customer relationship with me by waiving the fees. It costs companies about $50,000 to win new customers, so it was a deal for them to waive the $114.89 to keep goodwill and the possibility that I might return to them someday. OR, she could charge me and ensure that I will never, ever, ever use their services again. Of course, the negative word-of-mouth will be supplied at no cost. She stated that there was nothing she could do about the charges because they are automatically billed. Fine, I said, you've just lost a customer forever. Now, I'm not necessarily a huge fan of Fred Reichheld, however, he's right on when he talks about bad profits and Vonage is clearly a company addicted to bad profits: Too many companies are addicted to bad profitsprofits that come at customers' expense and drain the value out of customer relationships. Whenever a customer feels misled, mistreated, ignored, or coerced, then profits from that customer are bad. Bad profits come from unfair or misleading pricing. Bad profits arise when companies save money by delivering a lousy customer experience. Bad profits are about extracting value from customers, not creating value. (reference: http://www.theultimatequestion.com/theultimatequestion/good_profits.asp?groupCode=2) It's too bad. Vonage had the potential to be a very good company. Fed_up South Bend, IndianaU.S.A.

VONAGE OVERCHARGES AND CANCELLATION FEE Usa
I sign up for VOIP in September 2007, In June I was told I cant cancel at that time and my payment was lowered to keep my business. They put you through the run a round to cancel your service each time I call. In June I was told to prevent the cancel fee I have to wait a year. Now in May I am told it is 2yrs or I will be change a 39.99 fee. I sign no contract and now here I am in a contract. It took 6 calls to find out this information. Customer service is bad. Phone keeping having drop call. Always losing internet service and it takes about 1-2hrs to get back connection. When internet goes you also lose phone services. This is the worst company I ever dealt with. They use hard to remember information to verify your account to disconnect but when call to add service they dont have a problem verifying my account. Vonage Holds money hostage Internet
We have had service with Vonage almost two years. Dec 07 they contacted me and asked if I wanted to purchase a year's worth of service at a discounted price. I agreed and was assured it was a one time deal. This past Dec I was billed for another year. I just bought magicJack so I planned on discontinuing service in Jan. I have called over 15 times and every day I have been told my request for refund has been processed. Every day I have spoke to supervisors who apologize for the mistake and then insist they are filing a complaint on my behalf and requesting a refund. The extent of their lies is unknown at this time. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and am hoping they may help. I have had to put my account on hold so they won't charge me for another month. They were going to charge me for that but I have been told it has been taken care of at no additional fee. We will see if they are lieing again. At this point I do not think I will get any of my $303 back, they have promised to call me back with a decision by tomorrow. I am expecting to hear they find me at fault and will not refund any money. Just another thing to note: each time they said they requested refund a supervisor would say to give my bank at least ten days to process. They say they refund immediatly but then say your bank has the problem. This company has no principles, morals or values! I would never recommend them to anyone. Millsowv Marietta, OhioU.S.A.

Vonage blackmail cutomers Internet
I requested vonage service on August 1st, 2008 and have to pay $79.99 for the adaptor and $29.99 for the activation fee. then I have to pay $24.95 monthly fee starting from the third month. Since magicjack only charge 19.95 per year and pay initially $19.95 for the jack. So I wanted to switch to magicjack. But then vonage told me I have to pay $70.00 again for the adaptor and $39.99 for the disconnect fee. I did not sign any contract with vonage, this ia almost blackmail customers. for the adaptor I have to pay totally $79.99+$70.00=$149.99, which now is useless for me. I remember that I read in some place about vonage: you can stop the service at any time. I tried to stop the service about a month ago, the account manager promised me to give me a month fee peroid. But then I realized in order for me to get this credit I have to continue with vonage for one more month. This is really a trick and a cheat. There are other tricks with vonage For example, they claimed to give you first three months with $9.95 monthly service fee, but acturally you can only get two months. This is a company I definitely will not recommend to anyone. I will tell my friends to leave vonage because they simply charge too much, they offer is not competitive at all. (((competitor's name redacted))) has much better deal. Customer troy, MichiganU.S.A. sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome. Vonage Cancellation Fees Holmdel New Jersey
Beware of Vonage, I signed up for VOIP service with them in June 2007. I signed NO contract at the time I signed up. I had NO minimum amount of time when I signed up. Later they changed there Terms of Service agreement so that an activation fee is charged, and a cancellation fee of $ 39.99 is NOW charged if you cancel prior to 2 years. I requested a copy of a signed contract with the fees clearly spelled out. Vonage could not produce a contract. Since there was no contract there should be no cancellation fee. Also, when there VOIP unit goes down it can take up to 2 hours for it to reset itself. During that time you will have no phone service and no internet service since your computer MUST go thru their VOIP unit. So when it goes down you have no access to the internet or phone service. Once they get your bank info they pump the well as much as they can. WATCH OUT. This company will rip you off at every chance it can. Steve s Miramar, FloridaU.S.A.

Vonage LIes and Overcharge Internet
Contacted Vonage with switching my landline phone from Qwest.  I hesitated as I was unsure about doing so and porting my current number over.  So Vonage offered 3 months for free to try and issued me another phone number which would be temporary.  They also offered to give me a reduced monthly rate for three months after the trial period at 14.95 a month.  The monthly amount is normally 24.95 They mailed me the necessary equipment to hook up with vonage since you are required to have internet service also. Once agreed, they keep you on the phone to with a third party company to make sure you agree to terms and they wanted to port my current number over which I would not agree to since I was doing a trial period only.  It's sort of a bait and switch.  They tell you one thing and yet they say you must agree to the terms with a third party company.  I happened to listen to what they were getting me to agree with which of course I didn't.  Had I done that they would have cancelled my qwest service then and there and lock you up. Everything was hooked up and completed.  After 3 months Vonage contacted me to see if I was ready to switch and I agreed.  They were to port my current phone number over.  I don't personally sign my checks as they are completed by a member of my company staff.  So after 7 months I realized that I was paying two phone bills.  The one with Qwest and Vonage. I contacted Vonage and after looking into billing, they never gave me the 3 month reduced rate at 14.95 which was promised and they started charging me the regular rate from the start. They never gave me the reduced 3 month trial period.  They also never ported my phone number over as promised so I requested a refund from them for then entire period since they didn't give me the trial period reduced rate and never ported my number over as required.    I contacted their billing, which I had to wait on the phone for over 15 mins for customer service.  I was told they would credit me $30 dollars. I requested the full amount since it was their mistake and we start over now.  They told me basically to stuff it... So I cancelled the service immediately and I am now filing suit against them in court for the amount I 've paid fully. This company is deceiving and basically a bait and switch firm and their customer service is horrendous.

Vonage Ripoff, Internet
Vonage TV commercials suggest that billing by other phone companies is high and untruthful. When I first started it was cool the first couple of months because I was paying about $23./mo. Then suddenly it went up to $25./mo and I was getting billed for $35+/mo. Then I had them correct it after about several months got tired of it and took action and got it reduced to $19/mo and then in another month it went back to $35+/mo. Scam is they charge you less than Qwest at the time I bought the Vonage. What a line of BS.

Vonage ripoff Groveport Ohio
I signed up for vonage Feb 13,2006 only to find out that with dsl internet I had to keep my current phone company/number. I wasn't too worried, because Vonage guaranteed a full refund if you cancelled within thirty days. I called several times to cancel, but kept getting cut off after waiting on the line for 20 and 30 minutes. On January 9th I finally got in touch with someone who told me that I had to wait two days for a call from the accounts/billing office before my account could be cancelled. No one ever called so I called back and was given the information needed to send back the equipment, and was guaranteed that the delay would not affect my refund. I received an email that was to be included with the retuned equipment. The email had the RA# and all the other requirements for properly returning the device. I followed the directions and had a tracking number for the delivery. Via the tracking number I saw that on Feb the package was received. So I began watching for my refund, checking my account daily, only to find that I had been drafted another $27.24 on behalf of Vonage. I called that very day, which was Feb. Again getting cut off when they placed me on hold. I called at least five times trying to get this straight. Once I got throught I was told that they had received the equipment, but my account wasn't officially cancelled. I explained that I called and cancelled several times, and why would I want to pay for a service I couldn't and never used. He put me through to accounts/billing who put me on hold and disconnected the call. I called right back and a man named Rosalio informed me that the lines were messed up but everything was taken care of. He said that I was cancelled and the $42.34 hookup and service fee, plus the $27.24 would be refunded and no more money would be drafted. I have yet to receive any money back. I contacted them via email on 2/18/2006 telling them I wanted my money refunded right away and written confirmation that no more money would be drafted. There has been no aknowledgement to my cancellation or to the promise of a refund. Vonage is a huge ripof, promising no risk, full refunds, good service, before you sign up, - and giving you none of the such after they get your money. I never even opend the box with the equipment and I fear that another draft is going to be attempted. I would not reccomend Vonage to anyone! I believe it's nothing but a big racket Ken Hemet, CaliforniaU.S.A.

Vonage ripoff Internet
Vonage does everything it can NOT to be fair with credit. I had switched back to AT&T on Jan 12, 2006 and kept my phone number since the high speed service was not good enough to use Vonage in our office. I even called them and told them even though they had to release the number. Like who wants to call them anyway and wait 45 min to tell them you are canceling! If you have switched to another phone company and taken your number they should know this. Funny when I went from AT&T to them, I didn't do anything. I switched my number to Vonage and AT&T prorated my bill the day of the switch, I did not even call anyone. AT&T new the number was no longer theirs since they released it!. On March 28th we were still getting billed. How can they bill for a phone number that was switched back, they had to release it? After hours of waiting and speaking with someone in India, I was told to call another number, after another hour I was told I would be credited. Totally aggravated I accepted it. Well on May 6th I called to say nothing had happened. Again another couple of call each 45 minutes waits to get through. First the woman who answered the phone said I made a call in April! But then she found the ticket from March 28 and said she would credit me from March 28. I said I had not had the number even with them since Jan 26. She was an idiot and said there was nothing she could do since she had not record I had ever cancelled it until today. I said How can you bill for a phone number that AT&T is billing me for. She just kept saying sorry. So I demanded to speak to a supervisor. Then I get some woman who would only say her name was T.C. would not give me her name. She had strong ebonics and sound poorly educated who said she would send me back to the first woman and OK it. Then I am on the phone for another 15 minutes while the woman tried write up a ticket that will be reviewed and I should get an answer in about 3-5 days. Of course I will probably end up having to call again and suspect no one will have a record of this. I did get a generic follow up email that had no specifics, just that they were charging me 39.95 for early termination. John Waterford, ConnecticutU.S.A.

Vonage ripoff,dishonest, fraud billing Internet
I entered the trial period after calling the customer service number and finding out all these great things that they do. Now that the service is working, those features dont even work. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!! I had the service 2 days and hated it. When I signed up they told me that my phone service would never go down. It was down for about 48 hours. Had to call and call to get it to work. The customer service dept must be in India, everytime you call you always get someone that you can understand. Now after its working, its horrible, the sound quality is horrible, they say that they can hear me fine, as Im sure they can, like they are really going to say your right its bad. Everyone that I am on the phone with someone they can never hear me, I end up having to call them back on my cell phone to have a conversation. I have called now 3 times to cancel the service while in the grace period, every time I do they either put me on hold till my phone goes dead or they will just hang up on me. My trial is ending soon and I can never get ahold of anyone. Now that my number has been transfered I really am upset because according to the original carrier they say that Vonage takes forever to transfer the number back or they just wont do it. If there is anyone out there that has contacted the attoney general or the FCC and is looking to for people to join a class action please let me know, oklahomasoonersnorman@yahoo.com. Vonage ripoff Nationwide
I signed up for Vontage Phone Service on 4/25/06 and paid 45.84 for the phone adaptor. This was to include the adaptor and 1 month of service. I paid for the 2 day express dilivery of the adaptor. Needless to say that I never recieved the adaptor. I had called Vonage 2 different times spending over 2.5 hours on the phone trying to correct this problem. The first time I called Vonage said that there had been no delivery of the adaptor and that they would make a note and the adaptor would be sent that day. Well I waited again for almost 2 weeks before I called again. I would have called sooner but the time wait to talk to a rep was unbelievable! When I did finally get a rep on the phone they told me that the adaptor had been dilivered and I reasure then that it hadn't. Vontage offered to send another one and by this point I had had enough! I told them just to cancel the account and credit my card for the return! Before I could finish the request for cancelation my phone battery died! So I figured that since they had the request that things would be taken care of, that's what I get for thinking! I recieved my bank statement the next month and Vonage had charged $29.40 on 5/26/06! I tried to call Vonage once again and as before the wait was terrible and I had things to do.Time went by and I forgot about it and on 6/26/06 Vonage showed up on my statement again, this time for $28.59. I called Vonage once again on 7/7/07 and explained the problem and did finally get a confirm on the cancelation but then they charged me $124.78 for the cancelation. So all in all this is a total of $228.61 for a service that I was never able to use.I filed for a credit the day the cancelation was confirmed. The rep told me that it would take 3 business days for the credit to be reviewed. I gave Vontage 8 business days before I had to call again! I was told that the credit had to go through supervision. I agreed and just wanted this settled. Since then I have recieved numerous emails telling me that I need to call. I replied and asked what seemed to be the problem. Vonage replied that I needed to speak to billing. So I did just that and was on the phone yet another 50 minutes trying to get this resolved. Vonage was only willing to credit me $153.37!! Vontage quoted that they would only credit me this amount because I didn't cancel the account in the required 20 days. I further explained that I tried to cancel but Vonage says that they have no record of the call.I also asked Vontage why I should have to pay for a service that I was never able to use do to their mistakes. Vontage just gave me the run around. I sugested that Vonage pull the account activity and they said there was none in wich I can prove with print outs from Vontage service. So all in all I am still out $95.24 for a service that I could'nt use do to mistakes made by Vontage. Should I just be happy with what I did get back ? I'm thinking not but would like some help and advice on this matter. Yes I would like to report Voange a RIP OFF!!!!!!!!! Vonage VoIP RIPOFF VIEW MY ACCOUNT NATIONWIDE INTERNET
So I signed up for Vonage (www.vonage.com) on July 15, 2005. Although I was MOVING in May/June 2006, I didn't want to end service before a year was up so I paid for an ENTIRE MONTH OF SERVICE THAT I DID NOT USE. According to my understanding of billing cycles, I was PAID THROUGH JULY 14, 2006. STILL THEY DISCONNECTED SERVICE THE MINUTE I CALLED ON JULY 12, 2006 AND SAID I WAS NOT ACTIVE FOR A TOTAL OF ONE YEAR. IF I WOULD HAVE WAITED, THEY WOULD HAVE BILLED ME FOR ANOTHER MONTH OF SERVICE SO EITHER WAY THEY WOULD GET MONEY. Because I didn't want to get charged for another month of service on July 15, 2006, I called on July 12, 2006 to cancel my account and was informed that I would be charged $39.99 as my account was not active for a year. Regardless that I WAS PAID TO THE END OF MY YEAR; THEY STILL DISCONNECTED SERVICE THE MINUTE I CALLED, rather than schedule disconnection for the END OF THE PERIOD ALREADY PAID! They also don't tell you that when you're being charged the $39.99 that it is taken out INSTANTLY of your account. If I didn't have money in my account they would have over drafted my bank account. Vonage ripoff Holmdel New Jersey
I ordered 2 Vonage units on Monday Feb 20, 2006 over the phone using their toll free number. I had specifically asked them for a 2nd business day shipping and because I was ordering over the phone, the sales rep guaranteed me that the activation fee was going to be waived which is $29.99 per unit. Monday being a national holiday, I was expecting the units by Wednesday. On Thursday when I called them enquiring about the units, they said the order has been put in the system on Wednesday. On top of that they put in one of the units as ground delivery. I had to carry these units to India on Saturday and now I have only one unit. Vonage ecepts the fault that the second unit was not mailed for 2nd day. I have no use of the unit here in NJ and they do not want to cancel the order for the second unit without charging me a cancellation penalty. Above all they have charged my card the additional $29.99 times 2 for activation which caused my account to go ver its limit and the bank has charged me $35.00 overdraft. They are not willing to pay for that too. Kumar Guttenberg, New JerseyU.S.A.

Vonage damaging scam ripoff nationwide
I've recently inquired about using Vontage for my home office communications - to no avail. Question: Has it difficult for anyone else besides me to get their phone number (if you were without internet access at the time being)? I am personally finding Vontage to be particularly frightening due to: -No advertised phone number(s) that I can find via telephone inquiries -Reading complaints largely of victims being charged for services/equipment that they could NEVER use -Reading complaints largely of victims having to be on the phone for hours to resolve their reported issues (Not a comfortable feeling, whew!) Oh, I accidentally found a phone number for Vontage (866) 243-4353 but I have been trying to call ALL DAY and is has been nothing but busy, busy, busy. (I wonder why I seem to never get through) I understand that the Radio Shack store district I consulted is NOT crazy about selling the Vontage service due to the Ocean of complaints of reported Vontage employees' criminal like behavior, and Radio Shack not wanting to be in the middle if a Class Action Lawsuit and/or Criminal Indictment(s) begins against Vontage owning partners. If I can't even reach them to give them my money then what is telling me I can trust them if their services/products/billing goes wrong costing me my precious time or my whole business? NO THANK YOU VONTAGE. Tony LA, CaliforniaU.S.A.
