I was a EA for Rent A Center. Ive worked for Rent a Center for 10 years and was just recently wrongful terminated. This is how the week from hell started. My manager started complaining about me not suporting her in the store enough and I explained that the reson I dont suport her decisions are because she shuts down any ideas or ways I try to run the crew. So I was demoted. Tension started to become to over welming I guess for the manager so they tranfer me to another store. They transfer me to a store where the manager and I had problems with each other in the past. There for 4 days I was written up for stupit resons. I reported it to employee relation over and over so they transfer me back to the old store. That was on a friday. That saturday the manager had a list of people she wanted me to pick up. She said she spoke to the customers and they were awear of the pick up. She said if they dont have the money pick them up. I need this credit cleaned up. Mind you the Market Manager was there too. He heard her when she send me out that morning. So I did what I was told. I ran a few people. Them I got to this lady's house. Her daughter buzzed me in let me in the house told me her mother was not home. So I asked her to call her moms on the phone. She in turns tells me her mother didnt answer but she will give me the LCD TV. Then she said it to heavy for me to go to the room and get it so I did. I leave the house and keep doing my runs. 30 minutes later the manager calls and said Im need at the store. I go to the store and get arrested for roberry, asult, criminal trasspass and so on. The lady claimed her daughter was a minor I didnt know that I was told to pick up the tv and I did. The lady said I stole 700 dollars out of her house. So I get locked up. Rent A Center has the TV in the store.

So what did I steal cops checked me I didnt have no 700 dollars in my pocket. I go thru the system and then released. I get home and custormers that I know are calling me telling me that the manager got rid of me. I called the job and no one knows what Im talking about. then on my day off they fired me. I was fired for doing my job. If I didnt pick up people's items of money I would have been fire for not doing my job but instead I get fire because I picked up someone that didnt want to pay. And to top it this custormer is a friend of the manager she was the on that a proof her after her SS# showed up as a skip in another store. Im I supost to be innocent until proven guilty. I believe I was set up.

To Jay -Wow. There's a lot going on in your post! Sorry to hear about what happened (I work at RAC, too) and I cant speak to a lot of the details you wrote about, but I do know this... Entering a customer's home when there is just a minor present is a serious violation of such a strict RAC policy that, I'm pretty sure, is an automatic termination. I know that's one of the company policies where there is just no wiggle room. No matter what, you just don't do it.

And to Nicholas who asked about criminal vs civil.

In some states, police may assist with some issues surrounding picking up products, but in most states, it's a civil matter. This means that if you don't return the merchandise, RAC takes you to court and you end up paying additional late fees, court fees, etc. Oh, plus it goes on your public record and can affect your ability to buy a house/purchase a car, etc.

IMPORTANT EXCEPTION though: If RAC can prove *intent* to steal then it becomes a criminal matter. This means a warrant is issued for your arrest and one day (even years later) if you're pulled over for speeding, off to jail you go. Not good!

Civil or criminal, either way, it's just not worth it when, instead, you can just return the merchandise and rerent it later. (You pick up payments where you left off-- you don't lose what you paid in.)

Can Rent A Center actually have the police come to your home to get items? Isnt it considered a civil matter and has to go to court?

I hate to say it but you did violate the law.

A minor does not have permission to let you in, or to let you take property in such a manner. You should have notified your workplace of the situation instead of simply taking the property.

It sucks that you got fired, and they may have been looking for a reason to fire you, but you gave them one. It isn't wrongful termination, because you DID break the law in taking the property.

You need to get a lawyer.
