Rent A Center ripped me off in Douglasville Georgia

AUTHOR: Elmer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 31, 2006

As a former employee and store manager wth 8 years of service with the company,I can shed a little knowledge on RAC's collection policy.

The rental agreement does state when payments are due and depending on your pay history will determine how "flexible" mgmnt will be.Ask your RAC manager if he can get an extension.Which simply defers your payment for a given period of time(usually 2 weeks in my experience).Do this prior to going past due!!

I worked with the company when E. Talley was in charge and believe me it was a much better place to work as he cared a great deal about customers and employees.RAC used to mean "Respect All Customers".His death was a great loss. The "NEW GUNS" Speese and Fidel have done nothing but run the co. into the ground with insane aqquisitions and driving great employees away.

In my case it was the higher paying grandfather clause that ended my career with these bloodsuckers.I ran 23% profit stores(3 of them, gained BOR and was compliant with co. opens and closes)With same store sales stagnant and a smarter consumer market, sales slumped in the RTO biz.In order to raise profits RAC started a practice of "disposing" of these higher paid managers. And another quick note,it disposed of many white male managers to fill these posistions with half a*s trained females to meet Affirmative Action quota's to ward off more gender discrimination lawsuits.I think the last one cost RAC around $123 million a few years ago.

Now with the co.in debt up to its ears with the purchase of Rentway, you can bet they are trying to collect as much rental income as possible.Check with your states collection practices to see if you are being harrassed, chances are RAC might exceed the limits of the law.

In closing most rent to own companies are very expensive and you will be buying sub-standard merchandise.Save those weekly payments and in no time you will accumulate enough cash to buy the things you want and not have to deal with those companies that prey on credit challenged consumers.

Take a look at Yahoo/financial/message boards under the RCII stock symbol.See what employees(current and former) plus stock investors are saying about this company.I think you will find it quite entertaining.

One last thing: D___North Carolina must be one of the brainwashed newbies. He seems to be Mr. Rebuttal...lol....dude get a life..oh my bad you work for RAC you're not allowed a life....get some D's and hit your numbers!!

Angela, RAC will retype agreements in a heartbeat to clear credit(I've seen it done many times, usually with higher priced items and 90 day idle pieces) so make sure you have your original agreement. Your Benefits Plus is very limited in what they will pay and when they will pay.....read it carefully!!! Each store is required by RAC policy to have an 800 number posted for customer's to call,if not just call other RAC's until someone gives it to you....Good Luck

Angela,

As for what you are stating is "insurance", I am assuming that you are talking about the Benefit's Plus program. If the store is not working with you on this (which they should) but if not, you should call the 800# in the benefits plus book that should've been provided to you. The other things you have listed does not add up. The store can not just up your price for the heck of it. Are you sure this isn't late fees you are having to pay on??

Do you have your original rental agreement? The computer will not allow them to change the price. The only possible way is if they termed your agreement & re-wrote it which is against company policy. You need to refer to the rental agreement that you signed to at the beginning of your rental.

As for the "At least 10 times a day" on the calling, the store staff doesn't have that much time of the day on their hands to be calling that much. 2-3 times a day is more possible. The secret on stopping this is to either make sure your account is not past due, or turn your merchandise back in if you can not afford it. If your account stays on time all the time, I promise you that the store will not contact you for your past due rental.
