I wish someone told me about this site before i got involved with Rent a Center..

I first rented a computer from them...Had no problem....Returned computer got a bedroom set...Brand new never rented, still boxed up....Well this is where the problem started....1 day late they called my daughter and our friends demanding very rudely to where i was and how they can get a hold of me....these people need to learn a lesson in manners....All they do is harass individuals....There was 1 day 1 had just recieved my paycheck and they were calling me about a payment...I told them it was not even due yet....They replied "Oh this is just a reminder call". Reminder call my butt....I told them that i just got my paycheck and to give me time to put it in the bank...2 hours later they called again wanting to get paid...What is the deal with them...Today i make the last payment on the bed and I will never do business with them ever again...If i ever need anything i will buy it used...Never shop with Rent a Center...

Hi Roxie. I won't use your last name here, but I know it, and I haven't even pulled your file. Roxie from Selma Oregon. Suffice it to say that your last name starts with an "a" and ends with an "n". Now, you know I'm telling the truth. I'm actually an employee of the Roseburg store and while I don't agree with the amount of markup we do on our rental programs, I can whole heartedly and honestly say that we in no way decieve the customers. We let them know how much they will pay at the beginning, so on and so forth.

Now to the situation miss Roxie spoke so eloquently about. She was indeed a customer of ours for a while with a lap top. But there were problems. The term "FPD" or frequently past due applied to her. And rare were the times that you could call her to ask when her payment would be in that she wouldn't bite your head off for one reason or another, claiming harassment or some other false acusation. Roxie returned the lap top, got a bedroom set, and continued her history of past due payments. She then moved to Selma, Oregon which is within driving distance of the Medford store. Both her and her husband King's phones were disconnected and we finally gleaned through much exhaustive effort an address where she was at, and a number to reach her daughter at. We did not call her daughter one day late, we called her daughter after she was three days late as company policy forbids otherwise. She then called back after her daughter had passed the message for her to get in contact with us absolutely irate. The message my boss left with her daughter contained no personal info as it is illegal to discuss such things with someone not on the account, just that her mother needed to call us regarding her account with us. She was rude, abusive, and profane on the phone. I personally recall that myself.

Furthermore, she refused to transfer her account to the Medford RAC as that store was close enough to drive to her house to try to establish contact after she goes ten or more days past due. Which is exactly what would happen. We would call one day prior to her due date as a friendly reminder since we don't send paper bills in the mail, then we call when she went past due. When she failed to call back or even indicate that she planned on paying for the merchandise we would resort to calling her references. Her daughter, which she complained about. We were too far to drive to her house, she wouldn't transfer her account to the medford store no matter how many times we asked her to, and she didn't have a phone or wouldn't give us her number if she did. All of this led us to call her daughter, a number that she never gave us. One we had to track down by legal means through a public record search.

Now why would I recall all of this information almost a year or so later? Obviously it stands out in my mind....as one of the absolute worst customers I've ever had to deal with in any branch of the retail industry, rent to own or not. It is the displeasure of mine to have even dealt with Roxie, and I felt it necessary to set the record straight when I saw her post here. Rent-A-Center is a rip off, they charge high prices. But guess what Roxie? No one put a gun to your head and made you do it. And we exhibited nothing but professionalism when dealing with you, regardless of how disagreeable you were. Good day to you.
