Hi everyone like everyone else I also have a complaint with our dear friends at rent a center! 1st I should mentioned I am on social security and I barely make it with the income I make. I was in desperate need for a living room set and saw 1 sitting outside the rent a center store, the sign said 450.00 cash so I went inside and talked to the manager to see if I can talk her down
to 300.00 she wanted at least 400.00 which I could not cover, so I thanked her and left.

A month later I saw the same living room set outside rent a center at the same price 450.00 so I went back inside and asked if she remembered me from a month ago and she said yes I do, so I said I was still interested in this set but only have 300.00 so she agreed and gave it to me at that price but she said there are no returns on the furniture I agreed and thanked her.

Now here comes the bad part! I needed the living room set delivered and told her I only live across the street so she said we can do it for 25.00 so I agreed and she added that amount on my bill and gave me a delivery date for 2 days later. How ever I had a few friends say that they would be happy to help me and get my set that evening, in which they did, they even set up my living room set in which I was so thankful for.

A few days later I went back to rent a center for my $25.00 for the furniture delivery charge and she said it was non refundable, I said what? but you never delivered my living room my friends did, she never mentioned to me that the delivery charge was non-refundable because I surely would have waited until I talked to a few of my friends.

Even though I was boiling hot I kept my composure and I try to talk to her but she was very rude And went to her office and shut the door in my face, around the office there are some glass windows So I went over to the window and knocked on it very lightly and asked her to please talk to me about this And she shut the blinds on me. I am really not sure what to do at this point, I know it is only 25.00 But if you times this with 7 more customers that's a 200.00 profit in which they stole from there customers! Anyone have any suggestions? Because I want to fight this, I feel she latterly stole from me and she will Not work anything out with me.

Thanks in advance
Jackie

Rob Just because you shop at the salvation army, it does not mean everyone else has too!

AUTHOR: Jackie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 08, 2008

Rob please answer me this,
what does SSI have to do with my complaint about RAC?
between you and anonymous you both have attacked me for being on SSI,

But let me tell both of you something, I drove a city bus for 20 years and I have many awards and achievements I accomplished within the company I worked for and I am very proud of. but due to a very bad car accident in 2005 I was forced to go on SSI. This is not what I wished for but it happened and It is a part of my life now
and I have to deal with it at the young age of 42.

The reason why I am telling you two this is because you should not judge a book with out Its cover!

And 1 more thing please learn to read!
I paid "CASH $300.00" for the living room set,
I was complaining about a delivery charge for 25.00 dollars that the manager refused to give back even though my friends moved it within a few hours after I purchased it!

RAC did not want to move it until 2 days later
I only live directly across the street,
so if anything my friends helped them out since they were all booked up!
they had no right to keep my 25.00 dollars for services I did not use!

Dear Anonymous I think I know why you work for RAC! LOL

AUTHOR: Jackie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 07, 2008

Dear Anonymous I think I know why you work at rent a center LOL,
you really need to go back and re-read the description of my complaint!

first off I am a lady and I mentioned that by ending my name Jackie
on all my responses, sometimes I would even put jacqueline which
everyone knows Jackie is short for jacqueline.

As far as the livingroom set, I paid cash for it, yes thats right a person on
SSI or government assistance as you say paid cash for it.

Also I can tell you are very young and do not know much!

but I will tell you, a person who is on SSI is on it because they earned it
all the money I ever worked for and paid into SS is what I am living on
and I can tell you I never worked at rent a center and if I did I would
keep my name anonymous too LOL.

Good luck at rent a center :)

Missing the *real* problem here

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 06, 2008

Wait a minute!! Did everyone just miss the whole problem here? A guy on Social Security and govt assistance is "in desperate need" of a fancy $400 dining set?

I loved working at Rent-A-Center, people would come in to cash their welfare checks there to make payments on leather sofas and big-screen TVs. Good grief, ... and you people wonder why nobody feels sorry for you....

25.00 del fee

AUTHOR: Rd58 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 02, 2008

Yes we do charged 25.oo for cash n carry delivery, when we send our truck at 8 miles per gallon and 4 dollars a gal for gas, it doesnt even cover our costs, but we usually give the money to our deivery guys to buy lunch or what ever. when we cash n carry a piece we ususally just want rid of it and are trying to recover some revenue usually much less than we owe on it. all rac stores are not rip-offs and hopefully as the bad managers leave we are replacing them with good people, unfortunatley the hiring is usually up to our DM's, the old saying is those who can DO and those who can;t Teach is so true

Akount...

AUTHOR: Ncjoshuag - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 28, 2008

Don't make generalizations that customer service is just a sticker on the wall. That may be the case in some stores, but not in mine. I might be responsible for hitting numbers, but I REFUSE to hit numbers just so I can over-extend a customer. I have to be able to sleep at night and renting something too expensive to a single mom living on her own and living on unemployment isn't something that I'm willing to do.

I take pride in my work for RAC and I pride myself on being able to say that I care about the customer and I'm interested in what's best for them. If I have to lose my job because I worked to benefit the customer, then so be it... but I refuse to allow you to say that every RAC employee has Customer Service as just a sticker on the wall.

#8 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Just another day at the J-O-B!

AUTHOR: Akount - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 12, 2008

As a former Store Manager, I can say that this wouldn't have happened in my store. 25 dollars to a customer means way more to them, than to the company that makes 3 billion/year. The manager should have called their supervisor... they all have one... and requested to take 25 dollars from petty cash, NO! petty cash is not a private fund but I think the Regional would have been just fine after learning that the 25 dollars was supposed to be for services rendered that were not needed.

Considering the customer lived across the street, I never would have charged for delivery, it would have taken 10 minutes of my guys work, but would have made the deal that much sweeter, and the customer that much more likely to come back... I'll bet she never buys another piece of furniture there again, no matter what the discount. It comes down to Customer Service, and let's face it... no customer of RAC, is a customer because of customer service. Bottom line, customers shop at RAC because they want immediate gratification for merchandise they can't afford today. No one will admit it who works there, but customer service is only a sticker on their wall. In our meetings, we're told to rent it all... no matter how many customers lose their houses or cars because of it.

why

AUTHOR: Robb - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 10, 2008

why did you give them your money if you were going to move it yourself? that's just dumb. anytime we do cash sales, we state during the intitial sale that if the customer requires us to move the merch there is a 25 dollar fee. no matter what it is. 90% of the time they do it themselves. i hate to say this... but the error lies with you, not rent-a-center. for all we know... the manager included the 25$ in the total cost of the furniture... thus the reason why she will not refund.

Do we keep letting Rent A Center victimize people or do we start doing something about it?

AUTHOR: Jackie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 11, 2008

Dear Nancy;
I know I came ahead and I know it is only 25.00 dollars but that is not the point!
I did not use there delivery service so why should they keep my money? Put yourself in my shoe's and think about my point!

Also I moved this set not even 2 hours after my purchase, the manager said there was
no refunds on the furniture she never mentioned no refunds on the delivery and she also knew I was trying to get help on moving it, if she did not plan on refunding my delivery charge she should have told me right then, just like she told me no refunds on the furniture and I would have went a whole different route on delivery charge and waited until I knew if I could get the help on moving it or not!

Like I stated earlier
I am not the only one they have done this too, there are thousands of RAC complaints should we keep allowing them to do this or do we complain about it so others are not victimized by this company?

This is why rip of report is here to help consumers like myself help each other with experiences they had with companies, it is not because I have no life as you stated, I just felt the need on sharing my experience so it don't happen to others!

I do know I will never see that 25.00 dollars but helping someone who is thinking on going to RAC change there minds and go somewhere else. It will be the best 25.00 dollars I
ever spend and I am sure others that complained about RAC will feel the same way I do!

Thanks

Did you bother to ASK if the delivery charge was refundable? I'llb et not. Also what are you whinning about Rac stealing your money. Didn't they give you a $450 living room set for $300.? I think you should stop whinning about the 25 dollars and get a life. YOu came out ahead anyway.

Rent A Center Charges For Delivery That Never Took Place!

AUTHOR: Jackie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 10, 2008

Hi Thank you very much for your response, but I must disagree with you!

Rent A Center is one of many companies that do not refund for services not rendered!

What ever happened to the theory of Customer satisfaction?

Myself or anyone else for that matter have the right to change there minds with the comfort of knowing the company is not going to screw them for services they never performed!
And if anything I made it easy for them because I picked it up myself with in a few hours the same day I made my purchase on this living room set, they were not able to deliver it until 2 days later!

All RAC did was sit back and collect free money from a consumer that was nice enough to give them there business, I could have went any where but I went with RAC, in which I now regret!

Another thing you talk about RAC dealing with 100's of people who are looking to just take advantage, but what about the 100's of people RAC took advantage of,? There must be
thousands of complaints, from consumers about Rent A Center!
Please take the time to read a few complaints, some of them are very scary.

As far as calling your customer care line at 1-800-422-8186 to report RAC
very rude manager! thats a joke, I called several times and I am still waiting
for a response and this is two weeks later.

Also I want to wish you luck with your employment with RAC, you seem like
a very nice person, I just hope that RAC don't corrupt your kindness!

Thanks again
Jackie

You paid RAC to do something and then did it yourself?

AUTHOR: J.d. Craig - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 09, 2008

It's not RAC's fault that you paid them for a service and then changed your mind.
You agreed to pay them for the delivery and then decided to do it yourself. Did you call RAC prior to changing your delivery plans and ask them if they could refund your money? We have very strict guidelines we have to follow in making a refund. Next time if you want to change your plans, make sure you can get the refund you desire FIRST.
As to the behavior of the Manager. Let me be the first to apologize. She could have explaind herself better to you. The only thing I ask when you judge us is that you remember we deal with hundreds of people every day who are just looking to take advantage, and get something for nothing. Again, I am sorry for the way you were treated. If you feel like you were lied to or mistreated call our Consmer Care line at 1-800-422-8186.
