Sears does not honor the repair/replace warrenty on it's tools unless it is a hand tool. If the tool is gas, air, or electric, even though the warrenty information states that the tool is covered under a 1 year warrenty with the provision that it is covered for 90 days only if the tool is used commercially or as a rental. I received as a gift a combo air ratchet and impact wrench, the ratchet works fine but the impact wrench has a defective trigger mechanism that will not close and consequently the tool runs wide open. I took it to Sears to have them replace it as a defective tool and was told that without a receipt (gifts dont come with receipts) they could not honor the warrenty. NO WHERE in the warrenty does it say you need a receipt. It doesn't stipulate whether it is GAS, AIR, ELECTRIC or whatever in its warrenty information. It only stipulates that it is covered for 1 year or the 90 day commercial use, the warrenty states it is unconditional, which means without any conditions such as receipt.

They need to stand behind their WARRENTY.

Really?   The warranty you provided does not state that at all.  In fact, it includes a condition for commercial applications and another condition for expendable parts.   I didn't see the word "unconditional" anywhere in the warranty.

That said, the warranty (like most time base warranties) says that it starts on the date of purchase.  If you can't show them when it was purchased, how are they supposed to know if the warranty is in effect?    Do you think this is unique to Sears?    Most companies will not honor warranties if you cannot show them when something was purchased.

If they operated the way you want them to, anyone with a 2, 3 or 4 year old tool could walk in and demand replacecment.  That wouldn't really be a 1 year warranty, would it?
