BOOKING DATE Thursday, July 04, 2013 Flight $231.49 Unintended Consequences of DOT Regulations (Carrier Fee) $2.00 Exchange Fee $5.00 Passenger Usage Fee (Carrier Fee) $16.99 September 11th Security Fee $5.00 Passenger Facility Fee $9.00 Segment Fee $7.80 US Transportation Tax $17.51 Total $294.79 FRIDAY, JULY 05, 2013 TIME FLIGHT Las Vegas, NV 1:05 PM 954 Fort Lauderdale, FL 6:54 AM SATURDAY, JULY 06, 2013 Fort Lauderdale, FL 7:45 AM 138 Orlando, FL 8:44 AM I checked in early in Las Vegas with three bags to get my boarding pass and to check in one large bag. I carried on a smaller bag and a small shoulder bag with my tablet computer. I was charged $45.00 for the largest bag. The agent looked at my two carry on bags and said that they were free. The larger of the two carry on bags fit easily in the overhead storage. The shoulder bag was stored under the seat in front of mine. When I arrived in Ft. Lauderdale and tried to board the second plane, I was told that I had to pay for the larger carry on bag. I was sent to Customer Service about 50 yards away to pay. No one was there. I went back to the boarding area and told them. They saw the Coustomer Service person sitting by a window taking a break. They called her to go back to Customer Service desk. I met her at the Customer Service desk and she sent me back to the boarding area and I told them that the Customer Service person sent me back to pay the fee there. I assumed that it would be another $45.00. I was shocked when she said that it was $100.00. I complained but there was nothing I could do if I wanted to get home. In total it cost me $439.79 to get home from Las Vegas.

I arrived at spirit Airlines in Las Vegas with three pieces of luggage. I was traveling from Las Vegas, NV to Orlando, FL. The flight required a change of planes in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. When I checked in at the Spirit counter, I checked in the largest bag for $45.00. It was placed in the luggage section of both planes and was recovered at baggage claim in Orlando. The female agent asked if I had any other bags to check in I showed her the two remaining bags. one was a wheeled bag and the other was a small shoulder bag carrying my tablet computer and paper work. She said that these two bags were free.

I carried on the two bags with no trouble. One was placed in an overhead compartment and the smallest bag was placed under the seat in front of my seat. When we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale, I walked to the gate for the second plane. As I have stated , I was charged $100.00 to carry on the largest of the two bags that I had carried on the plane from Las Vegas. Both planes were the same size.  The wheeled bag fitted easily in the overhead compartment. I have reciepts for everything.

The size of your larger bag

What is the dimension of your larger carry-on luggage? Also, what type of airplane you flew for both legs? Certain airplane types are much smaller than others, so your larger one may not be fit into the overhead storage.

That said, I still agree that they over charge passenger with the $100 cost per bag. I believe this is the way any airline makes money off their passengers nowadays. There is no way to stop them because it is a legit loop hole...
