Don't ever use Stor-N-Lock - to be brief, many of my valuables and household items were stolen out of my unit. I had my storage unit for two years and when I returned to pick up my items, there was a different lock on the unit! No one will take responsibility AND to top it all off, there is no way to reach corporate offices. The store will take a message for corporate/management team but no one will bother to call you back (until you start posting reviews online). I feel like this operation is shady - consumers beware! They have locations in Colorado, Utah, California. My beef is that security is great to keep out thieves from outside but it appears as though their on-site management and/or employees stole my items. Before you rent a unit, try to call a few locations in your area to get a corporate office number - you won't find one, for a reason!

BEWARE OF STOR-N-LOCK SELF STORAGE!

AUTHOR: FUMING IN ARIZONA - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, February 28, 2010

I had a storage unit in Henderson, CO for 2 years. The property seems to be secure and is advertised as secure on Google business profiles across all their locations in Idaho, California, Colorado, and Idaho. I chose Stor-N-Lock Self Storage as it looked secure (gated, key codes required to enter, intrusion alarms, surveillance, etc) and I needed a place to store my valuables/household goods/furniture - I had just lost my job at the newspaper and was relocating to find a new job. I struggled at the beginning to make my payments on time, but I was always proactive and communicated with the Stor-N-Lock office managers (husband and wife on-site management team). I mostly communicated with the wife manager, I would let her know I got paid on X and I would pay them on X. I was never more than 20-30 days past due, I just needed flexibility at the beginning. She would agree but then the husband manager would call hounding me about how he was in my storage unit and was going to sell my stuff and it "is nice". I would respond by saying "Jim, I just spoke to your wife and she agreed that I could pay on X and how can you sell my items if it's not 30-days past due yet?" I eventually got to the point where I was paying on time, back on my feet and didn't think anything of it further. Until my husband went to pick up the contents of our unit. As we unpacked, we realized much of what we had in there was missing. I immediately called the Henderson location and they told me to call my insurance company, no apologies - nothing. I demanded their corporate office phone number, they refused. They hung up on me, I called several other Stor-N-Lock locations only to have them tell me "we can't give out the corporate phone number, we can have a District Manager call you" - no one ever attempted to contact me - not for 6 months.

In addition, I also knew that if it was an outside intruder/thief, they would've known as intrusion alarms would have gone off + they have constant surveillance, supposedly. Well the alarms didn't go off and the surveillance wasn't monitored as I believe it was an inside job by an employee and/or on-site management. It explains why the lock was different on my unit and my husband had to cut it off with lock cutters. The owner Franklin has sent me a scathing e-mail without even calling and hearing me out first stating "I am not a responsible American Citizen (I am a minority, he knows that) and I am an arsonist" for posting bad reviews of his business online. His response comes 6 months after the fact and only because I posted reviews online. He also states that he does not promote security in his advertising (type in Stor-N-Lock Self Storage, Henderson, CO in your browser to see his ad that DOES promote security and safety). There are 4 pages of e-mails that bounce back and forth between denial of anything wrong happening in his company and trying to take back the "racist" comments he made in the e-mails prior. He also contradicts himself often and did in our conversations as well. I just want people to understand that this is a difficult situation as I have no proof of the items that were stolen, who keeps receipts for everything? My insurance will pay for the missing items but they weren't all of high value - just sentimental. I hate to see this happen to someone else. Please feel free to contact me: wklott@hotmail.com if you have experienced this or if you would like to see the actual e-mails from the owner.
