For anyone looking to get into a marketing company. If they sell pieces of paper for a profit like; pizza hut, Orioles, Tires Plus, all sports tems, or any big company and they look like coupons to you, RUN as fast as you can out the door. This company promotes for big name companies but really they take the unsuspecting college student and trick them into thinking going DOOR TO DOOR on 100% commission for 70-80 hours a week making less than $10,000 a year for the next three years is a privilege to be in.

This business does allow you to own your own company but they don't really help you. I personally put in four years of my sweat, blood, and tears into the business only to get out of it more debt than I can handle. I will have to declare bankruptcy to get myself out of the repo of my car, (I couldn't pay rent, training, electricity, and my car note at the same time) my eviction, dental bills, medical bills etc! In the last three years I have made less than $10,000 a year, that's like $1.75 an hour. I don't say these things because I am spiteful I want everyone out there to know what a BRAIN WASHING business you are getting into. I hope by people reading this at least one person interview, Distributor, Leader, Assistant manager, EVEN MANAGER will get out of this while you still have an opportunity to salvage your credit and your life.

Every company that runs these door to door promotional advertising and marketing companies LIE to you. Your IDA says you don't have to be there for the meeting, "You are not required to attend sales meetings this is a lie. If you do not attend them then you will never make it to management. So you are basically selling stuff. You have to pay for training if you don't you will never move up in the company. You have to be there on EVERY Saturday or you're not in the game on Monday. You can't have social interactions with other independent distributors even though they are the only ones who understand your free time is limited to Sunday because you work 9AM TO 11 PM Every day!!! The only reason I left was if you could never see yourself as Tommy Spiro, Derek Colontonio, Mark Kernan, or any other successful manager then get out. Out of 1000 interviews, only 500 will be dumb enough, let me rephrase that desperate enough to respond, out of them only 250 will fit the profile of young mind molding dreamers, and only 175 of them will come in for interviews, out of that 25 will actually start and NONE of them will EVER make it to management. For the lucky few who do, you will not make more than 20,000 as a manager and you don't even make that your company does. NOT YOU!!! Your salary will be $250 every two weeks. You only need it for some bills; the rest goes into your business. For all you dreamers who actually think you have a chance and you are better than all the rest (what I thought) here is a list of EX managers I personally KNOW!! Sky Chudleigh, Chris Orkney, Joanna Webber, Tony Fuchet, Mike Roth, Heather Ahern, Amanda Conklin, Chris Jones, Patty Noel, Lance Bowling, Jared Coyle, Mike Burian, Gary Commito, Gary Meyers, Maurica Hurley, Erin Grumbach, Melissa forest, Katy Lucht, Matt Holmes, and many more. For every successful manager you have 10-20 that fail. Don't think it won't happen to you because you will always rely on people wanting to go door to door to make your money. You have no control if your office leaves, you can only go back into the field and expect no help because you don't need a bandaid, right MARK??? (National consultant for Granton Marketing) Please take my advice and get out. I spent actual time on a Friday night to write this not because I have nothing better to do but because I want to warn people about this crooked, dirty, mind warping business they call entry level marketing. Please tell everyone you know and even though they seep though the cracks for law the 1000 people I tell will know to NEVER fall prey to this DOOR TO DOOR type of business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JD International aka Captial City Marketing

AUTHOR: Amy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 31, 2008

Just to add to the above comments that JD International is going under the name Capital City Marketing. You will find tons of ads by them on Career Builder and Monster. They ask for the same thing "entry level college grads" etc.

I was trying to find out information about them but couldn't find anything. I did a search on the phone number and found out that 512-380-0505 is the SAME number for both places.

dont forget to name JDR International

AUTHOR: Eric - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 12, 2008

JDR International does the same thing. so dont apply for a job at JDR if you dont want to be going door to door. And dont buy anything from them either because this kind of work should be for kids that are raising money to go on a field trip or to get new baseball bats or uniforms. Not for adults to make a profit for themselves.

This Company Changes Names Every Few Months

AUTHOR: Chuck - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 26, 2006

I was contacted by this company a few months after submitting my resume at a few job fairs in the area. Luckily, I knew to research the company before accepting any interview offers, and came across the report on this website. This particular company in Knoxville, TN area has had three different names in the past couple of years, the current being Sol Acquisitions, and the former being Granite Consulting.

Any company that's constantly changing names is either trying to avoid being tracked for fear of lawsuits, or just plain shady. Job seekers beware.

Victory Promotions Taking advantage of college graduates. Answer to the rebuttal from the last ripoff report. Chicago Illinois

AUTHOR: Smart To Get - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 25, 2005

I wasn't going to write this but the rebuttal from the last ripoff report made me laugh. I worked for Victory Promotions for quite a while, or should I say, I worked for my own business?! That is what you are told. Tom Spiro, you are a great guy, but this so called business... it's just wrong.

First of all, the person who wrote the rebuttal googled Victory Promotion to see how her (probably Tom's girlfriend) friends were doing and saw the ripoff reports?! Yeah! Anyway, if you liked it soooo much there, why aren't you working there anymore? You moved? There is a scam business like this in every city. If you want to defend this kind of business, show some facts...oh sorry, there aren't any conclusive ones! And yes, people are not told what the job is until they find themselves in a far suburb walking door-to-door. They have to LISTEN??? They "don't know what Direct Sales is"? Sales is plural, honey, so Direct Sales ARE! The bottom line is that people do not make any money there, spend their money on food and gas (tax deductible :)))), work over 12-14 hours 6 day weeks (coming to work bright and early in the morning to attend these brain washing meetings, and leaving dead beat tired late at night, walk through storms and horrible weather conditions...etc., for what? Because they were blinded by some make a lot of money fast, be your own boss opportunity?

If you want to work hard, I'd say to get a real job with a salary and benefits and make a lot of money. Only people that have failed at Victory Promotions write ripoff reports because they are mad at their own failure???? Where do you get this crap from? This company brain washes people with what we can call some common sales techniques (they sell lies) saying that this is you business, but when you are sick or you have something personal to do (since you work 8:30a-10:00p, 6 days a week and you don't have a life) they make such a big deal and make you feel horrible for missing a day. You also get to go on "business trips" where of course, you have the great opportunity to spend all you money on hotel, gas, food, etc. I learned a lot working there ... I learned that college graduates need to build a future, not to be fed lies on how to get rich overnight. Nothing good in life comes easily. I don't say that people over there don't work hard, they do and I admire that, but do something that it is worth your time and effort. Yeah you make friends and have fun, and blah blah blah, but that is not going to pay your bills. And, for crying out loud, stop ripping on people who work from 9:00a-5:00p... THEY HAVE A LIFE and have real income... I have a normal job now, I use my skills and what I learned in college, and hey, next year I'll make double of what Tom makes, because I work hard. I love my job, and at the end of the day I don't have to feel bad that I fooled another college grad to pursue a dead end career.

#6 UPDATE EX-employee responds

In support of "bj" from MO.

AUTHOR: Tuxan - (Denmark)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 17, 2005

I myself worked for Tom for a little under one year. I also worked with bj, and have to agree with his/her statements. Direct Sales and Marketing is not for everyone, and is a hard job. However, if you are driven enouph, honest, and upfront you can succeed without being "shady".

In order to do so however, you must prioritize things in your life. Tom Spiro did so, I did, and BJ did. While I decided that my priorities had changed, I still find that the year has enhanced numerous aspects of mylife. I have become an even greater communicator, and was offered a directorship of a nationwide company by a senior VP b/c of my experiance with the company.

The initial argument was that it will lead you down a road to financial chaos.

1. Isn't it your responsiblity to realize that maybe this isn't for you, and you need to prioritize your fiances? If you know your "going under" and continue to stay in that position, then you need to accept blame. I don't remember anyone holding a gun to my head and forcing me to stay with the comapny. I did so on my own account.

2. All of you seemed to have stayed with Granton &/or Victory for quite sometime. If it was so horrible and slimy, shady, dodgy, whatever why did you stay so long?

3. You say you were "brainwashed". While I don't negate the fact brainwashing occurs, I do think that people who are brainwashed are lazy sloths who do not feel the need to think for themselves. The reality of the situation is you should have really thought about the meetings, and what you were being told, processed it and then asked yourself if this was what you believed in. If you did that, you were not brainwashed and have no one to blame but yourself, certainly not Tom Spiro. And, if you you accepted it, then you obviously believed it. If you didn't, well your just lazy -- and is that Tom's fault? No.

4. I just have a question to the initial author, man, if you were making so little money, why the HELL did you stay for four years? Wouldn't two years tell you something, like maybe this isn't working out??

5. You rant about the amoralness of the business. Yes, the business is amoral, as are all other businesses. So, do you shop at the mall? Do you purchaces gas for your vehicles? You do, and thus you support business in a capatalistic free market economy. That is the nature of the game. Don't be hypicritial and compalain that victory is immoral when you support Shell, Exxon, or numerous other comapnies by purchacing thier products. Wait, they must be virtuous saits for YOU to support them, but sadly they aren't and you know it (so why do you support them?)
The botton line is that business and morals have never mixed, and most successful businesses are amoral. While you may or may not like it, that is the reality of the situation. Get over it. That is capitalisim, that is a free market ecomony, and that is the American way. That is why we are such a prosperous nation. If we ran businesses based on moral principles, I doubt our country would be classified as second world let alone a first world country.
(side note: I have relocated to Eastern Europe, and live in Prague which used to be under comunisim, I have several czech friends who love a free market economy and embrase capatalisim, and living outside of our nation, has tought me just how lucky we americans have it b/c of our ecconomic principles -- weather they are pretty or not).

Finally, I want to say that Tom and 'BJ' are not only good people, but people who actually understand business and skillfully apply its concepts. Don't hate em for that. And, the next time you work for an "evil" company, take the time to think about it, priortize, and make your own decisions and learn never to let your fiances go to s**t.

DONT BOTHER DEFENDING THOSE SCAMMERS YOU PINHEAD

AUTHOR: Prefer To - (Canada)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 03, 2005

I side with the guy who laid the complaint although I worked for DSMAX for a few months then realized TNI might be a bit better. WRONG. Either way you get scammed. Dont try to defend it because if youre a manager you have to take advantage of people to make money. This business is illigitamate. The law in Calgary Alberta states that all door to door canvassers must be paid minimum wage for ALL of the hours they work. The offices are not as profitable but if theyre lucky they get the people who pay their own salary. All offices should be forced by law to pay hourly with basic CPP EI vac. pay. Like working in a mc donalds or anywhere else. If the business was as great as it is made out to be, im sure all of the owners can at least afford to pay the agents minimum wage. If they cant then that shows that they shouldnt even be in business.

#4 UPDATE Employee

Bj... who are you trying to convince, us or yourself?

AUTHOR: Timothy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 19, 2005

Here's what I would say if I actually succeeded in this business: "This business isn't for everyone, but I have done well with it. Most people will not do very well, but at least they are given the opportunity at a nice lifestyle."

Here's a few things I would say if I hadn't succeeded, but was trying really hard to ignore my own failure: "Successful People Don't Waste Time Blaming Others;" "it is only human nature to compensate for your inadequacies and lack of understanding by placing the blame on external, unassociated circumstances;" "The individuals who log on and chat here are the same kids in school that got a failing grade in class;" "Again, [failure is] your fault!" "It's people with the 'get rich quick, and without working hard' mentality that waste time posting sob stories on these websites."

I did an in-depth study into Quixtar this past summer for an academic article that I will someday (hopefully) get around to writing. I went to IBO meetings, had lunch with some people who had been in it for a while and were doing well at it, listened to the motivational materials, studied the compensation plan, etc.

It was pretty easy to tell who was making it and who wasn't, because the non-successes idolized those who had "made it."

Here's one of my observations from these interactions: the real "successes" were very up-front about the nature of the "opportunity." They would usually say that it was a very tough business, and that most people will ultimately fail out, but that, for some people, it's a great opportunity.

The rest of the crowd, however, who desparately wanted to succeed but hadn't yet, would sing a different tune when confronted with complaints against their company. Invariably, they would attack the people who lodged the complaints, give some anecdotal evidence of success stories, and maybe give a brief exposition of how wonderful the people in the company are.

You see, for those people, shooting the messenger is easier than reading the message. So, rather than concede the obvious and try to give a different perspective, as the real successes do, the non-successes choose to deny the obvious by finding a way to discredit the person who points out the obvious. Not a great way to defend your position. The only people who buy that b.s. are fellow non-successes. The successes allow this mode of thinking to flourish, and, to be honest, encourage it, but they don't adhere to it: they know it's b.s.

So, then, there are three possibilities. 1) You are a real success who is defending your former, wonderful company. Not very likely. True successes don't, in good faith, defend their position in the way that you have. Additionally, the whole rebuttal sounds far too aggrandizing to be sincere. 2) You are a non-success, and this is in furtherance of your plan to delude yourself. This, in my opinion, is the most likely scenario. 3) You are, either in terms of finances or upward mobility, a success, and your continued success depends on convincing others of that which you don't believe yourself. This one's also pretty likely and, if this be the case, then screw you, buddy.

If you can defend your organization with hard facts, such as average incomes or retention rates, or by showing how it is that someone responding to an ad for a position in "marketing" hasn't been scammed when he is given a position in "door to door sales," then please do! Otherwise, you're not fooling anybody except for the other fools.

And, my final point (I promise). Think about this statement: "ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO REASON THAT INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONS, AKA CLIENTS OF GRANTON MARKETING, WOULD RISK WORKING WITH A FRAUDULENT COMPANY????" Apparently, our rebuttalist felt that this statement was so full of truth that it deserved all caps and four question marks. His confidence is misplaced.

First of all, the word fraudult in this statement is a red herring. "Fraudulent" is a legal term, describing an endeavor rising to a level of immorality that the law recognizes as criminal or civilly actionable ("Fraud is usually a tort but in some cases it may be a crime" - Black's Law Dictionary). What a decent person may recognize as a fraud, however, may be something that the law doesn't recognize as such.

This is the case (excepting a certain group of pyramid schemes) when someone agrees to be an independent contractor striclty on commission, even if that commission turns out to be virtually non-existent. "Freedom of contract" is so American that it's in the Constitution. If you want to work for somebody, the law will usually stay out of your way, no matter how shoddy the opportunity is. And, as an independent contractor, the law doesn't really care how much you earn (or lose).

Getting back to my point, mega-corporations don't really care about with whom they do business, so long as said business adds to the bottom line. Successful corporations become successful by making sound BUSINESS decisions - not sound moral decisions and, often times, not sound legal decisions. If it will be profitable for Nike to use the services of your company, then Nike will use the services of your company. If there is a law against the way your company operates, Nike will STILL use the services of your company if doing so represents more potential income than liability. If your company operates in an immoral fashion, i.e. by deceiving potential salespeople, Nike will STILL patronize your company if the potential negative p.r., considered in the light of the probability of negative p.r., doesn't outweigh the benefits of patronizing your company. It's all economics, my friend. The only thing these big corporations care about is their bottom line. Morality, legality, etc., they don't give a d**n.

So, to put that in fewer words: yes I do reason that large corporations would use the services of a fraudulent company.

I would never be able to sleep at night knowing I ran a shady door-to-door sales company that exploits sharp young people for my financial gain.

AUTHOR: Eliel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 18, 2005

I am not writing this report to blame these companies or anyone else for any failures, nor am I trying to attack Victory Promotions or any Granton Marketing/ Cydcor company. On the contrary, I think these are all great companies that offer a phenomenal opportunity, if you're cold-hearted, shady, deceiving, and want to revolve your whole life around a door-to-door "advertising/marketing" company. Also, I in no way feel taken advantage of by this company. It is my own fault for being a wide eyed, hungry, determined, hard working individual for sticking with the company for as long as I did.

Note: Don't take this as a plea to never interview with Victory Promotions, DC Advertising or any of these companies, or reasons I think you should leave the company if you have already gotten that far. I just wanted to share what I learned through my 10 month experience with Victory Promotions and hopefully open some people's eyes.

Starting with the beginning of the deception and lies, in the newspaper and internet ads they claim there are openings in sales & marketing, project management, and management departments. There's actually an opening in only one department, Door-to-Door coupon sales. Once you come in for the first round interview you might catch direct sales subtly mentioned along with a six-figure income in a years time, ownership opportunities and other pretty pictures. It's more of a repetitive sales pitch than an interview. They also use sales tactics like greed and Fear of Loss, making you think that if you are selected for a Day of "O" you are part of a very select few..... BS they'll hire just about any chump off the street.

After they get you in for a day of "O", the leaders/corporate trainers are told to "wrap the interviewee around d their finger within the first 5 seconds" then they are told to diminish their resumes while reading them (Break or in Spiro's words "SHRED!" the interviewee).

After that ,if you don't catch all the bs and shadiness and stick around until lunch, you will be fed another line of bs. The "lunch time breakdown". This paper claims that you will own your own business and be making 100k within a year. Later I found out my leader/mentor had been going door to door for over 3 years and been promoted to assistant manager twice. It also says leaders make $600-750 a week. Lets break this down into real numbers:

-You make $10 per coupon sold
-on a good sales week for the average leader you sell 10 aday/60/wk $600
-leaders train about 3 people a week which are paid $50 out of their pocket which accounts for $150/wk+
$450
-you share the profits on Saturday with your team mate=$50
$400 a week
-As a leader its a standard to put in least 75hrs/wk

$5.33 an hour on a good week
If you had good weeks all year it would come up to a whole 20k a year.

Leaders are also told to explain that they get compensated for campaign management and managing road trips, which they themselves never were(in Spiro's office at least).

The only reason I left the company is because I couldn't see myself getting excited every morning to run a morning meeting, getting everyone excited to go door to door. Also I didn't want to be trying to sleep at night knowing that I'm running a shady door-to-door sales company that exploits bright young people for my own financial gain.

This report could go on and on. If this isn't enough deception, and lies you've read that go on behind the scenes, just copy and paste the same rebuttal on here Kate and I'll list more things.(by the way Kate, that's cute how you try to bring justice and defend your ex-boyfriend/boyfriend Tom's business)

You were never an owner... I knew I could never be as cold hearted as EVERY manager/owner listed that is successful.

AUTHOR: Amanda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 11, 2005

You might think I am laying blame for my failure on others but I will tell you this, I know I failed for my own ignorance. I couldn't see the forrest for the trees. I knew I could never be as cold hearted as EVERY manager/owner listed that is successful. (What ever your definition of successful is) If you haven't made it through the program all the way how can you possibly understand what we mean? Tom Spiro isn't a bad guy, if anything I like him.

I however know he runs a Granton Marketing office which will take unsuspecting college kids and ruin their credit, love life, family life, friends, basically everything you hold dear to make money because there is a 1 in 500 chance you might possibly make it to ownership. Don't worry though they will feed you full of BS so you stick around as long as possible untill they feel that you are no longer good for their business or you quit.

You need to realize I don't write these things to lay blame I write this to hopefully keep others away from having to declare bankruptcy at 25. If you were in the business for three-four years you would know what I mean. Here are a couple of things for you to keep in mind.

1. You were never employed at Victory, unless you were the administrator.
2. You were never an owner.
3. You were only in the business for 6 months.
4. You never relocated your life for the business.
5. You came into the business when the manager stopped being secritive about what you do in the business.(I came in when all they said on your first interview is that they were a marketing company and showed the clients SALES was never mentioned, I use to own my own office I know when we started getting more in depth in our first interviews)

Lastly, all the clients we have ONLY work with us because it is free advertising. Not because of how great each office is. In each state there are clients who won't work with us because of the idea of going door to door is not the image they want for their company, or others have lost that client forever in that market. These are all things you should know if you were in the business for so long.

So before you act all high and mighty about working for a BS company, you should really read into the articles listed about people who were TRULY taken advantage of and how the business hurts more than helps.

X Owner

Successful People Don't Waste Time Blaming Others

AUTHOR: bj - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 10, 2005

Note: I write this rebuttal as the head of sales for a marketing research firm, and a former corporate trainer and independent distributor at Victory Promotions in Chicago. I am no longer employed at Victory solely because I had to move from Chicago for familial obligations.

I googled Victory in an attempt to update myself on how my old friends were doing. Never did I expect to have been made privy to such outlandish, uneducated and misleading remarks as are posted on this terribly misused website. I only take the time to write as I feel it my duty to make right some of the wrongful accusations posted by individuals who find console for their lack of success in life by blaming others.

To all who have written in attack of Victory Promotions, know that I understand how much easier it is for you to deal with failure in the type of group environment encouraged by this website, and that it is only human nature to compensate for your inadequacies and lack of understanding by placing the blame on external, unassociated circumstances - like a job opportunity you simply didn't understand.

The individuals who log on and chat here are the same kids in school that got a failing grade in class, and felt better about it when their friends did, too. It's just too bad.

One year after my six-month employment at Victory, I now run the sales division for a successful marketing research firm. I owe this 100% to the training and development offered through Tom Spiro and his very honest, successful organization.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, everyone who submitted a 'rip-off report' here has commented on feeling taken advantage of during the day of observation, or 'misled'. In every first-round interview, it is CLEARLY stated and REPEATED that the first level of employment with the company revolves around DIRECT SALES - to people at the business and residence level. I feel silly needing to say this - but isn't that your fault for not knowing what DIRECT sales is?

Again, your fault! To everyone who simply ignored or missed this very vital explanation, learn how to interview: it involves LISTENING to the prospective employer AS MUCH AS bragging about your own qualifications when it's your turn to speak. As a former trainer, there was nothing more annoying than taking someone out to the field with me during my business day who had no clue what we were doing - simply because they didn't listen to what Tom said during the first round interview. That fact, in and of itself, dispels all of the myths written by people claiming to have been misled about their Days of Observation. It was all black and white, and those unhappy people chose to go ahead with something about which they were unclear.

Learn How To Listen. It's just that simple.

To set the record straight, Victory Promotions is not owned by any other company - it is an incorporated business owned and managed privately. The Manager and Regional Consultant, Tom Spiro, began Victory seven years ago by seizing the opportunity to run his own company when he graduated from college. This is the exact same opportunity with which he presents every single person he encounters at Victory - including myself. I was in NO WAY misled about the mission of the sales side of the company. Advertising, it its oldest and most reliable form, is the act of explaining a product face-to-face with others. And I knew that was called 'Direct' advertising upon entering my Day of 'O'.

Both my father and my grandfather built multi-million dollar corporations from the ground up - and in what way? Visiting strangers and informing them of their product. They were literally ecstatic at the idea of my learning how to TRULY WORK to get where I want to be, and asked to meet Tom right away - they viewed him as someone who holds the same hard-working principles as themselves. To this day, I still seek Tom out for counsel, which he offers regardless of whether or not I am in his company. It is his principle to educate others in achieving their goals. Victory Promotions is about building people - once that is accomplished, the sales aspect comes naturally to those who really try to learn. It's people with the 'get rich quick, and without working hard' mentality that waste time posting sob stories on these websites.

The intense, personalized training I received from Tom and his top trainers helped me to learn the skills of managing others, but first and foremost, managing myself. When I applied for the job I currently hold, it was stated to me by the VP of the company that I earned the position based on my experiences with direct sales and team management. My direct sales and training management history put me over my competition. Because Victory Promotions was my first job out of college, that is all I have to thank for the strength of character and general tenacity that I developed - two essential traits that landed me a career in management.

To dispel the last 'claim' made by others, there are no scams WHATSOEVER involved with Victory Promotions or any other Granton Marketing company. Think for a second: ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO REASON THAT INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONS, AKA CLIENTS OF GRANTON MARKETING, WOULD RISK WORKING WITH A FRAUDULENT COMPANY???? Is it reasonable to believe that massive companies like Pizza Hut, Cinemark Theaters, The White Sox, Firestone, etc. etc. would put their names on the line and risk losing everything by participating in a scam? Of course not - Again, I ask you to rely on your own common reason, and not the bitter words of people who must blame others as opposed to taking accountability for their own laziness and lack of success..

Thanks for reading, and I hope I was able to do justice to many of the aberrant claims posted on this website.
