I feel I need to share an experience I had in selling a puppy and give other dog breeders a heads up to save them some potential heartache later. I had a litter of puppies in early 2016. Another show breeder contacted me from the United Kingdom to express serious interest in one of the males. She wrote to me from late January through May of 2016. She has been showing dogs and rabbits in the UK throughout her life and owns a very successful show kennel called Sandbear Newfoundlands. She is also a UK Kennel Club judge. All was easily confirmed. She claimed she wanted to start thinking about a smaller breed and reassured me her family has extensive experience handling high energy breeds for friends and clients. She claimed she and her kids wanted the puppy for show. She said all the right things to convince us he would have a wonderful home with her. She flew to the US in May of 2016 to meet us and pick him up. She was very warm and friendly and reassuring. Almost immediately after leaving with him, however, she asked me not to post any pictures of her picking him up or tag her in any announcements. She didn't want anyone knowing she bought him. She said she wanted to just appear in the ring with him when he was 6 months old and have it be a surprise when she started showing him as this was her first siberian. She said she was picking up another puppy for a friend in DC and would then fly home. She cut all contact within three months of getting him back to the UK.
I checked with a few acquaintances in the UK who made some inquiries. They told me she said she still had him and the family loved him but he was just a pet. While I didn't understand why someone would go to such lengths and expense to import a pet, I was perfectly fine with just knowing that he was okay and they were happy with him. Although I was more than a little confused and hurt by the radio silence and the inability to watch him mature in pics, I left it alone.
Fast forward to yesterday, almost 2 years later. I just received a fat package via Airmail from Japan. In it was a very apologetic and kind letter from a woman who actually owns this puppy and has had possession of him since November of 2016. She sent photos, videos, copies of his registration papers in Japan, extensive health and genetic clearances and information about her arrangement with this broker, Suzanne Blake, and another intermediary in Japan named Joel, to acquire a Siberian Husky puppy for her from specific lines. The buyer of the puppy, Yasu, was told by the intermediary that breeders wont deal with brokers, so she musn't ever contact me directly, for as long as the Japanese intermediary was doing business with Suzanne moving dogs for his clients. When the business relationship recently soured and Suzanne delivered the last dog to him in late March 2018, the intermediary released Yasu from the agreement and told her she was free to contact me now if she still wanted to. From the few conversations we have had and the extensive information she has been willing to share, all is well that ends well. The puppy is in a good home, is doing well, and is very loved. I would just hate to see someone else go through the same worry and heartbreak I have been through over the last two years with one of their own puppies. Additionally, I feel I was very fortunate that my puppy ended up with a good family. He could just as easily have ended up in a bad home. From what the puppy owner and the intermediary told me, Suzanne brokers puppies very regularly and all over the world. I have no problem with agents/brokers who help families navigate a confusing import/export process or who travel when the family can't. They are as invaluable as any other expert in a confusing field. What I have a problem with is her brazen dishonesty and total lack of compassion for a fellow breeder who has no idea what happened with one of her puppies. As a breeder herself, she should absolutely understand what these guys mean to us and what it does to a breeder to lose touch with one of their puppies.
Please be aware of Suzanne Blake's brokering business if she contacts you to "buy a show puppy". Her paypal name is Suzanne Coffey (Her maiden name I believe). She owns Sandbear Newfoundlands as Suzanne Blake. Be aware if she contacts you for a puppy that your puppy could end up on the other side of the world. If you are lucky it will be in a good home, but possibly in a puppy mill and she won't have the decency to be honest with you about where your puppy is going or what happened to it later.

Clarification on my earlier report

AUTHOR: Melissa - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, May 19, 2018

I was told my initial post was somewhat confusing. To clarify:

In January 2016, a Japanese agent named Joel contacted me for his client Yasu and told me he wanted to buy a puppy for Yasu to import to Japan. When he began to explain the importation vaccination and quarantine requirements, I told him I had concerns about the puppy's safety and declined the sale. He was very disappointed and tried to change my mind. I insisted that I would NOT be willing to export a puppy to Japan as I felt it was dangerous for the puppy to receive so many vaccinations within 30 days.

Joel contacted his business partner, Suzanne Blake, and paid her a commission to buy the puppy from me and send it to him for his client. Suzanne contacted me and used her position as a successful dog breeder, handler and UK Kennel Club dog show Judge to convince me that she was buying my puppy as a new show prospect for herself and her children. She made no mention of her intent to broker my puppy and send it to Japan. She was very clear and very convincing that she was buying my puppy for herself and that she intended to show the puppy herself. This was complete and total deception on her part as she had been hired by Yasu and Joel to acquire the puppy from me, board it until November and then ship it to Japan.

She picked up the puppy in May of 2016 and cut off all contact with me by August of 2016. I only became aware of her deception when the actual owner of the dog, Yasu, and her agent Joel wrote to me from Japan. Yasu and Joel apologized for the deception and provided full updates on the puppy's well-being, They claimed they felt guilty for deceiving me and they love the dog very much and want me to have regular updates. Suzanne Blake posted a denial that she ever told me she wanted to buy the puppy for herself. She claimed that she was only helping a friend pick up their puppy and she was sharing travel costs. As can be seen by the attachments, Suzanne messaged me for months both before and after picking up the puppy and her messages made it clear she was buying the puppy for her kennel and to show. SHe also had face to face conversations with me regarding the same. Suzanne Blake blatantly and willfully deceived me to acquire my puppy to ship it to Japan for a commission.  If Suzanne contacts you to buy a puppy, be aware it may end up on the other side of the world.

I have additional emails that I can upload as further proof.

I hope this clarifies my post.
