I came home to find a stranger in my house and my little brother trying to tell this stranger (aka Michael Brandon 615-424-9783) that he changed his mind. Apparently he said that he was earning "money for school" and if he earned enough "points" and reached his goal he'd get "$1000 and a possible trip to Rome." He came into our house, talking fast and tip toeing around the true nature and cost of the "subscription" like any other door to door salesman, and coaxed my brother into a game informer magazine subscription. He asked had asked my brother to write down his name and address and phone number and sign the receipt. When he asked my brother for cash or check in the amount of $63 dollars my brother just didn't feel right about it and said that he didn't want to give him any money. This is about when I came in. Michael explained that my brother had already signed the "contract," he kept referring to it as a "contract," (in reality, it's a carbon copy receipt) and said that he was going to catch heat and be accused of trying to forge a signature, or cheat for points, I believe he also said that he could be charged $200 dollars for returning with a missing receipt, or receipt without payment. I asked him to write down his name and phone number. When I asked to see his ID he said that they "leave their wallet and ID at the hotel" for safety reasons. In the end he made it sound legitimate enough and we gave him the benefit of the doubt, but only because he assured and convinced us that we could cancel the payment as long as we sent the cancellation within 3 business days.

I still don't know if this SYN.INC company is legitimate in any way. If they were why don't they have a website? or email address, or business address aside from the PO box? I've also read that they've changed their company name several times within the past few months which is not reassuring at all. When I google SYN.INC all I can find are scam reports.

In hindsight my brother should have closed the door in his face, and I should have called the police and told him to leave immediately.

We called the tiny number that he underlined on the receipt and unlike other reports we reached an operator at the company who sounded legitimate enough.

At the very least my gripe is with door to door salesmen and their annoying guilt trip tactics and the way they prey on kind sympathetic people like my brother.

We've sent the cancellation in the mail, so weather we got scammed or not I suppose I'll comment with an update if and when the situation is resolved.
