Three years ago, GVR contacted me and threw the sales pitch.  I bit.  Spent $700 for services they said, would beat the industry.  My brother and I traveled across the midwest and believed this would be a way to accumulate points for a vaction....as the pitch implied.

First reservation out of the gate, was a disaster.  The service agent DID NOT know his job.  We knew the hotel we wanted to stay in, had called them for a price, knew what they were offering so when we contacted the GVR agent, we knew if we their service was as advertised.

Four phone calls later and leading the GVR agent by the nose, we finally go a price, a few dollars less, was not worth the aggrivation.  The agent could not find the hotel.  When he said he did, it was in a different city.  We gave the address, we gave the STATE, etc.   What a losing deal.

The next attempted reservation lasted two phone calls with me hanging up and not using the service again.

Through the signup program, I was given 20,000 points.  I had a total of 20,050 points, 50 coming from the first and only reservation.

Fast forward three years later, today in fact, January 23, 2014.  I received a phone call from GVR telling me my subscription was about to expire and they didn't want me to lose my points and I should renew.  That meant, throwing more money for a crappy travel service company.  I told them no.

However, I did go to my account to find, although the account was labeled ACTIVE, it also said it expired January 14, 2014.  GVR lied.  In another sales pitch they indicated my account was good, didn't want me to lose points, and to resign.  What he didn't want me to know was the account expired and closed.

Those 20,050 points were only good thru January 14th.  I called customer service agent at GVR and I asked three specific questions, one was answered with a deflecting question, the second was an answer that had no revelance to my original question, and then I asked for a refund of my money and was put on hold for 8+ minutes before I hung up.

This company should have done two things.  One, reminded me my points were to expire and I needed to use or lose them, or renew my membership and provide costs and benefits, etc.  Instead, their policy, it is because its what they did/do, allowing my policy to expire, attempt to lure you back to the program by you spending more money.

When I asked them why I didn't receive such an email, the first answer was, "you signed up three years ago and its your responsibility........"   The next answer sent me into orbit, "Who promised you we would notify you?"

That is the poor customer service provided from beginning to end with GVR.   I will also tell you I cussed the supervisor for telling me how I could or could not talk on the phone.

If you are considering joining GVR Vacation Rewards, in my opinion, do not.  Your money will be better spent at a different venue.
