It has been almost one year, I had a professor, Simon Hakim, who have given me the grade D+ for my summer course, in that course I thought he was an ethical professor, and I ignore his ill teaching policies during the semester. But given the grade I regret that I did not report a complaint. But more importantly, I have follow grievance procedures for Temple University, wrote a big report of all the abuses and submitted testimonials from students supporting my arguments. The chairman agreed so forward it to next step, premeditation process, I spoke with the professor and what he say was drastic.

In the interview he say - 'he does not care anyone of his student because he treat them as adults and if they want to cheat they can, they don't have to attend classes, and I don't provide any guides or guidelines to helps students'. Also I didn't get any participation points because the professor reply you need to be an outstanding student. Next he cancel out most of the grading scales, particular a project, and never properly told the class how he would remeasure it.

Next step was the grievance committee decision where I have to make the accusations and proves. In the process, the Grievance committee failed to look at the students testimonials, and ignore most of my arguments. The professor never treated all the students inconsistent manner; such as, one person have a presentation he denied one and allow the other. More examples of my arguments were, he does not check attendance, he does not give what is on the exam or help the student what to study for but only reply just read the book yourself - everyone failed - and when we would review the exam, we would ask our professor why was this question wrong and he would just pick the ones who have it correct to explained it for him, while the favorite students who got their wrong, they can't understand anything from the professor was saying. What is more disappointing was the grievance committee assume everything by looking at the majority of the grades of the students, and ignore the rest of my arguments.

Another factor was the assistant Dean told me you cannot use any witnesses to support my argument, but only after the decision, she told me the oppositely ' that you can use witnesses'; also I was never inform to go to the hearing only afterwards the Assistant dean would tell me I have to put it in writing. I file an appeal and spoke with the dean who sign the Grievance decision along with the chairman of Grievance Decision Committee, they listen to my claims together and look at the witnesses' testimonials, and they agree with me and intent to speak with the professor to change my grade, however, the professor was overseas - so I advised the dean to forward the appeal to the Provost, rumor says there have never been any plaintiff been there. And so it was true , they denied me for a further review and failed to give an explanation why I was wrong, but only to say the school have done no wrong nor is it severe enough to be granted for a further review.

I was left with the last impression, students who have grievance with Temple University must file a suit through the common pleas court, which in time and expense, hope that will exhaust the plaintiff and force them to withdraw from the grievance, and retake the course. But this course was an elective for me, so I decided to fight it, with all my will.

Communication

AUTHOR: C.P. - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, December 01, 2016

Communication is paramount! Trying to understand one’s perspective should supersede their grammar, spelling, etc.  He is obviously stressed and may not have taken the time to proof read his comment. Does poor grammar really devalue ones claim of injustice for lack of provided services.? The answer is no! The education system is this country runs on capital first and its integrity falls far below the that.  If you buy a vehicle for the price of a semesters tuition and that vehicle breaks down, the avenues of correcting the problem are fairly clear. Fighting a university for its poor service is not as clear.

Anyone who has a much stronger grounding in one subject or area of study can pick another apart. Making comments about grammar but no relevant comments about the main subject is counterproductive.  It does make you appear to be a bully with words or childlike.

I have taken quite a few English course, my speech are fine, logic/ reasoning are fine, but improving the writing grammar is very odd to me and I always used the tutoring center intensely and questing him. I don't know how many people adapted to culture but I have never adapted to any culture whatsoever. I appreciate both your concern for my writing, and have taken a little thought what is this world coming, the lack of care for the common people or is it for the minority?

I could have ignored this grievance issue, and let victims like myself die, but my stubbornness have led me to share these issues and ideas with the public. You all know unemployment rate are increasing, propaganda are being produced by the media constantly, the constitution is being trashed, and what else can anyone do, but to go on living in the repetitive way, neither free nor happy.

I majored in philosophy not the purpose of getting a job, I abandon that route of security, but instead for the search for freedom and intelligence, and ask myself what is this all about, mostly in the philosophy forums. They also share the same views like yourself, my grammar is poor, nevertheless they see me someone who is different.

Thank you for reading, if there is any more responses I don't mind replying.

This is sad and scary

all I have to go on, Daniel, is what you wrote. This was beyond misspelling. Verb forms were mixed, sentance structure was awkward. I had to struggle to understand what you were trying to say.

Regardless of the subject you study, you have to know the language to convey your thoughts. What good is your knowledge if you can not express that knowledge to others by the written and spoken word? Clear writting shows clear thinking. The comments I read judged you on performance, nothing else. I urge you to first lean the value of clear communication, then learn the skill.

As for you people who also made comments on woeful lack of basic language skills, I am encouraged by your comments. I think you, me, and a dozen other people in this country are concerned with what is happening to our wonderful English language.

You STILL need to write and speak well, if you are going to get any kind of a job, especially being a college grad. WE could NOT follow your reasoning since your grammar was so bad. IF you were to apply for a job and simmited a cover letter using the grammar skills that you have , they would throw your resume in the garbage. Maybe you can take another English class so that you can better express your thoughts because if people can not figure out what you are trying to say, they will not listen. First impressions are everything and your grammar is NOT giving off a very good first impression. Think about it.

True what you both say but without grace

I admit I do have a writing problem, but I do not have a problem with my reasoning. Its my 5th year and this class happens not to be an English class, but a class of economics in the 4th year . I'm a philosophy major, and I hope it would improve my writing level.

I am dishearten by both your comments, I guess pop culture has led people to judge only through appearance only. Surely enough my reasoning are not obstructed only my sentences, and given you have intelligence, I assume you have the sense of it. Should a man be condemned if he can't spell?

Be modest what you have to say, and don't be quick on your judgment, don't rant like those ill-teenagers or stereotypes who only knows how to bully and criticized, they only want to impress what they have or know, they know not how to be humble.

You are a college student ????? I find that hard to believe. I am appalled at your grammar, spelling and syntax, which proves you are incapable of doing college level work. No wonder you received a D+ ! Your continued use of such poor examples as " he say " " who have given ", " I have follow ", are prime examples of your ignorance of the English language. ( And these are only from the FIRST paragraph ! The remaining paragraphs are just as bad ). If you desire to have a college education, you MUST be able to do college level work. At this point, you cannot. Go and take all of the remedial English courses you can find - THEN attempt this course again.

grammar

POSTED: Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Judging by the report you wrote, you probably deserved that D+. Your grammar is awfull. MY 10 year old gramdson has a better grasp of English grammar than you do. Stop whinning and grow up and maybe take an English course. IF I unserstand your rantings, the professor said that he does not hold the hand of his students, etc. They ARE adults, after all. And he is right.
