I was downgraded from a truck driver to plant labor from an incident that occurred. I was backing up off a scale that was snow covered at Traco, and the passenger steer tire slid off the scale. I attempted to get the tractor back on the scale, and the steer tire blew. I was told to leave it there with the trailer still attached until the next morning. Next morning I filled out accident report and signed.

My supervisor told me be more careful next time. As it turns out the following week they had me come in and demoted me from driving to plant labor position. A difference of $400 a week. I did this for awhile and I applied at another trucking company. My employer sent the verification form in and said this particular incident was DOT reportable.

Now I can't get another trucking position because of this. Isn't a DOT reportable if an injury happens to another person or if truck has to be towed away from the scene. I was in the Traco parking lot..Does any know if I can get a record of this,if it is not on my DAC report? Can anyone help me get back into a truck and do the job I love.

Any "commercial vehicle" crash involving damage to the vehicle is technically DOT reportable. However....I work just south of Cranberry in Allegheny County and would request a copy of the official police accident report. If there was no police report than PennDOT should have no record of the crash as police officers are the only persons able to access and enter accident reports on the PennDOT system.

I would also request a copy of your driving record from PennDOT to make sure that their insurance guru's didn't falsely add a reportable crash to your record without a corresponding crash investigation completed by the Cranberry Twp Police, or PA State Police Gibsonia barracks. Without an actual police accident investigation and report they should have no recourse against you other than civilly recouping their damages.

Also, because the accident occured on private property I highly doubt that the police completed a report as almost all departments in the Pittsburgh area DO NOT take reports on private property unless there is a serious injury, death, or hazardous materials leak.

DOT Reportable

AUTHOR: George - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 19, 2007

To my understanding, a Dot Reportable Accident must be reported when equipment has to be towed from an accident scene. The accident scene must be off employers property unless injury or death occurred.
