First official letter regarding TXU Energy

Dear xxxxx
I believe that TXU Energy recently put me under contract to them in an unethical manner and followed up by unethically making it impossible, or next to impossible, for me to cancel the contract within the stated three day grace period. Since I think it highly unlikely that mine is an isolated case, please allow me to summarize my view of my experience with them.
On July 22, after seeing one of their attractive ads, I went online thinking that I would enter into a contract with them provided the contract terms were in substantial agreement with their ad.
After answering their questions for several web pages and not seeing contract details, I called a given telephone number. When I told the lady that I was in the process of possibly signing up with them but wondered where I could first see the contract details, she cheerily responded that I had already been approved and signed up! When I told her that I had not decided to sign up yet, she said I had three days to rescind the contract but that hers was not the proper department in which to do so.
After spending many hours over more than two days being put on hold and transferred from department to department trying to rescind the contract, I finally talked to a lady who said that since I was within the three day window, that I was eligible to cancel the contract. She said she would put me on hold and submit your request for cancellation. Eventually she came back and told me that she had submitted my request for cancellation.
I asked her if that meant the contract was actually cancelled and she replied that she had submitted my request for cancellation. Since I wanted to know if, after having expended so much time and energy, I had finally gotten the contract cancelled, I asked her again. With much exasperation in her voice she said, Sir, I told you I have submitted your request for cancellation!
I knew I could do very little more, if anything, in what was left of the three-day grace period, so I crossed my fingers and waited for further developments.
I then received a letter from TXU Energy dated August 1, 2008 that starts out, Thank you for selecting TXU Energy as your retail electric provider. You are going to enjoy the benefits from choosing TXU Energy. (Boldface theirs)
In hopes of helping others avoid a similar ordeal, I will be sending copies of this letter to everyone I can think of who I think might be interested.

I sent a copy of the above letter to the local NBC TV channel and Amy, the customer advocate for the station, was finally able to get my contract cancelled.
