I rented trucks from this company many times over the years, but this was the worse experience. The Van Nuys location has people employed, who clearly don't want to be there. Long lines, unfriendly service, no courtesy.
The truck I got assigned didn't start for an hour.
The mechanic at hand never serviced a diesel truck in his life.

The manager Doug Duplesis refused to exchange the truck.
Of course the truck didn't start up the next morning and I had to get a mechanic and lost half a day of my second day of move. The truck was far from being a 'gentle ride' as advertized.

Bumpy and noisy with interior cab looking like it just came from a war zone. Both odometer and speedometer read 20% too high. I was overcharged for milage and for blankets I never used. The manager was dismissive and denied the wrong milage and lied about the maintanence of the trucks.

The experience I had the next day at the very next location a few blocks away was exactly the opposite.

Not all U-Haul stations are bad

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 28, 2005

I have tried many of the other companies over the years with just as varied results as with U-Haul.
The prices and services are pretty much all the same.
It's just depends on the individual branch, how the experience goes.

This complaint is specifically about this one station and manager.
IN particular, since the very next U-haul station was absolutely perfect, courtesy, professional, friendly and the trucks were brand new as can be.....go figure.

cure for uhaul is budget trucks

AUTHOR: Doc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 28, 2005

I am hearing more reports of uhaul trucks being old, unreliable nad not even having the truck on moving day. On the other hand, last 2 report of people that used budget.com to rent one of their 15 or 25 footers are good. Those budget trucks are so new, they are not even broken in. And rates were better.

Uhaul has an aging fleet and is living on reputation not good product. And that manager, needs to be FIRED. Complain complain complain and call it like is it, CUSTOMER-NO-SERVICE...
