The non-profit Organization I work for was in the market for a new HR/Finance platform when they came across an Ultimate representative who promised them the world. He showed us demos of beautiful Business Intelligence reports, and went on and on about how comprehensive his software was. What they DID NOT tell us, was that they play in the arena of BIG Businesses- companies with 1000+ employees.

Our organization, employing less than 200 employees, was needing something simplistic, user-friendly, and fairly basic in terms of customizations, but never once did Ultimate Software suggest that they might be too complex for our needs. Once my organization signed the paperwork, we never saw or spoke to our sales rep again. The implementation process was a nightmare, not to mention they completely missed the boat during the GL process. ALL of our employee data was wrong. Payroll, WRONG every single time since then (this has been happening for 4 months). Our imported data? Wrong.

When trying to contact Ultimate with questions, concerns or problems- we have to submit a ticket before anyone will even speak to us. Then, they have 4 hours to even respond to our inquiry! This is ludacris when we're going through payroll, audits and other stressful events. Our Controller, HR Director, and COO have been working 55-65 hour weeks easily, to ensure the employees of our organization are getting paid accurately and on time, and can't even spend time on any of their other responsibilities.

We've identified a different company that we believe will meet our needs in many facets, and based on their customer-base and referalls, we are hoping to switch over to their software by the 1st of January (when switching to Ultimate at the end of May, the timing couldn't have been worse, as Q.3 and a new fiscal year were right around the corner).

Logically and logistically, this would entail leaving our contract with Ultimate early, but they refuse to part ways amicably. They are requiring us, a NON-PROFIT Organization, to buy out of the entire contract without giving us any kind of alternative option. We don't have the money to do this, and we certainly don't have the time, money or resources to keep getting payroll and audits WRONG because of their mistakes (no trasparency, completely incorrect implementation, zero customer service), and we are at a complete loss as to where to go next.

Do we stick with Ultimate and continue working our executives 60 hours a week? Do we buy out of our contract and bite the bullet for a new HR/Finance platform? Or do we demand that Ultimate (a multimillion dollar, FOR-PROFIT company) recognize how poorly they've treated us, and do what's right by their customer!?
