I started working for Universal Subscription agency when I was 18 years old. My long time friend got me onto it, and was paid a bonus to get me there. She described it as a party.

When I started, I had no idea what I was getting into. She was right it was a party. The supervisory explained to me that we did magazine sales door to door. For my training they actually put me with a bilingual mexican, in a spanish speaking neighbor hood. I don't speak much spanish, so I was lost.

Finally when we came upon some people who spoke english I was able to hear her selling speech in english. She talked about a points race and douped the people into buying a magazine. They looked happy and she was happy. That night she got paid for a percentage of what she sold. And she sold a lot.

I asked about the point race and cancun. I was told it was real, we were not only getting paid but competing for a trip! Sounds great to me. Plus they had so much alcohol and drugs in the places we stayed at all times, that I wouldn't remember if I didn't like it.

After my training I started going to doors alone. This is when it wasn't fun anymore. We hit big cities like Detroit and Nashville, ect. We worked until it was past dark, sometimes in questionable neighborhoods by ourselves. At 18 years old I got scared with some of the people I talked to. They have even lost me a couple of time and I had to find my way in a city I didn't know.

After I stopped loving this job so much, it was hard for me to make sales, thats when the scamming began. My friend had switched companies, and I wanted to go home. They kept reassuring me that I was going to get taken shopping, they were going to buy me new clothes, we would go to a theme park, all sorts of things.

My sales were down, they told me to tell the potential buyers I was sending money and magazines over seas, they told me to say I was paying my own way through college, and a lot of other semi-believable stories. I didn't at first, so my sales didn't improve.

But none of that ever came. Then I met the father of my first child. Lonely, I found somebody that was unsure as well, and we fell 'in love'. When I got pregnant we were both happy. For a minute. The supervisor refused to let me go home, let alone leave with the man who impregnated me. She said she didn't have the money and that I would have to make sales, and save up my own money for a ticket.

On instinct I was just going to call home, but the hotel phones wouldn't let us call out, by order of our manager. Fine, I though, I will lie to get home. I started saying the things they wanted me to say, and I did make a little more money, started saving. Then my boyfriend(childs father) was thrown in jail for soliciting. Thats when I found out that we never even had permits, no right to solicite at all. The bad thing was, my supervisor, nor the company would pay to get him out. So I did.

After going back to work for a while longer for my bus money, I found out our supervisor had been plotting on ways to get me to have an abortion. She even got my sons father wanting one. I started getting really scared then. They told me the company would pay for it. I thought, they can pay for a 500 dollar doctor fee but not a 200 dollar bus ticket? I wanted so bad to go home.. .

Then one day I met somebody that had been scammed before, she pittied me and let me call home from her phone. I told my mom that I was pregnant, and that the company wouldn't let me leave and she wired the money for me and my boyfriend to leave.

Midnight the night before we left, we scraped up about 40 dollars to get a room at a different hotel, some stranger thankfully took our money in exchange for his credit card to get a room.

Up until I found this site, I never thought I would be the same. Reading the stories I have, I want everybody to know. I was starved, hit, and harassed. They abandoned me when they lost my street location, and the held me against my will when they found me.

Don't buy these magazines, don't let your children or friends join there cult. Please offer them food, and a phone call. NEVER GIVE THEM CASH
