I ordered a joystick from newegg.com on 11/08/05 to be delivered using UPS Ground.

The package arrived on 11/10/05 Thursday 3:13PM.

I was at work on that day and nobody was home. When I got home at 6:30PM, I saw a box left outside my apartment's door. When I opened up the package, I found out that it was my newegg order. I went to www.ups.com to find out why the package was left outside my door without a signature because I have never received a UPS package that does not require a signature. After I typed in my tracking number, I found out that the delivery guy sign the package himself. I have the screenshot of my tracking history to prove it.

It states that the package was signed by "DING".

Luckily nobody in over three hours has stolen the package. However, I feel cheated by UPS for not fulfilling its service obligations. If the package has something more valuable and it's stolen, then there will be a lot trouble for me since the UPS guy forged my signature.

apartment or condo?

AUTHOR: Gee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 02, 2005

Bob......The differnce between a condo and apartment is that most condos have their own private entrance wether that be upstairs or downstairs. When it comes to apartments alot of complexes front doors are right next to each other. Which is safer in your opinion?

Now I AM confused

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 02, 2005

My daughter just received a package from UPS on Monday, they dropped it off and (the neighbor said) rang the bell and left. My daughter lives in a condo.

Then just today, they did exactly the same thing, they left the package and rang the bell.

Her neighbor lives above her and reading on her balcony, she watched the whole thing happen without the UPS even aware.

Ups drivers have never left packages at front doors of apartments

AUTHOR: Gee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 01, 2005

Alma

I'm not saying that Ups drivers have never left packages at front doors of apartments. What I am saying is its a strict policy to not leave pkgs at apts front doors. Once a customer has filed a claim he forfeits his right to driver release. So you tell me, is it worth it to file a claim if you did in fact receive your package? And you must remember every claim is investigated so that "everyone doesn't become rich on Ups!" As for your claim that thousands of pks are left in your town at apartment front doors sounds a bit exagerated. The other companys may have policys that differ from Ups when it comes to driver release.

"Non-driver release area"?

AUTHOR: Alma - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 01, 2005

Gee, can you give some background of this claim?

"Number two, the key word here is "apartment." An apartment is designated by UPS as an non driver release area. "

I leave in a city with 40k apartments. Everyday thousands of mails, FedEx, DHL, UPS packages are left at our doors. Maybe we can get paid following your advice suing UPS for not-existing losses?

We will be VERY rich :-)

If the OP got the item, the item is in good shape, the item works, and it was what he paid for, then what is the rip off?

What?

AUTHOR: Pete - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 01, 2005

Perhaps the driver 'signing' for the package was his way of noting the package was dropped off at the address indicated.

In what way can this be considered a 'Rip-Off?'

Non driver release

AUTHOR: Gee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 30, 2005

I have two major points here. For one, if the driver did in fact sign for the package he could be disciplined or possibly terminated. Number two, the key word here is "apartment." An apartment is designated by UPS as an non driver release area. By no means should any driver leave a package at an apartment front door....signature or not! The fact that the customer did get his package makes a world of difference here. This could have lead to claim that UPS would sure have had to pay on.

Signature required?

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 24, 2005

I get stuff sent to me everyday from both UPS and FedEX and unless the shipper requires a signature, I don't sign, simple as that.

BTW, what's the beef? The OP got the product and it was in the condition it was supposed to be in, and it works? Leave sleeping dogs alone.

ok sorry

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Ok sorry if I came across as nasty, I just hate when I write something that I know is a fact and someone tells me that I am wrong. In this case I WAS right, and happened to be in a grumpy mood. I apologize.

Also worth thinking about - whether or not the driver signed for a package he was not supposed to sign for, it is the driver's fault, not UPS the company. Upon discussing this with my mom, I was told that 1. signatures are not always required 2. sometimes it is up to the driver whether or not he/she feels it is a safe time/location to leave a package and 3. If a driver makes a decision to forge a signature that is grounds for termination

So the best bet I would say is to 1. check and see if sig. was required and if yes, 2. call ups and talk to a cust. svc. rep. Let them know what happened.

Did the shipper require a signiture or not?

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

What's missing here is the actual statement "Newegg.com does require a signature and did purchase the optional service." or "Nevermind, they didn't require one." The fact that the Yafin was able to pull up the name of a signer leads me to believe that in this case, they did need one. While confirmation of this would be appreciated, there's no need to be nasty (Jennifer).

The other thing to consider is that the delivery man did not forge the signature, but had a neighbor sign for it. At both of my previous apartments, I've had packages needing signatures left at another apartment since I wasn't home, and other people's left with me. This has even happened to my parents in their neighborhood. The deliveryperson passes the responsibility for delivery to someone else and saves them a trip back, even though that probably isn't a good thing to do either. What if the neighbor decides to keep said package? Then in Yafin's case, the neighbor could have signed for the package and just left it outside his door so as to not have to bother with it.

However, the instructions on the door suggestion is a good one, you can instruct them not to leave your package with a neighbor. I've actually had to put a note on our door stating that I'm home when expecting a package, our ups guy for some reason ALWAYS puts the package in our carport behind the house and NEVER knocks, even though there's usually at least two vehicles here, even though it takes much more effort to write out that sticker stating where they've left it, put that on the door, and walk to the back of the house. I guess he's just used to people working at that time of day. At least he hides it and keeps it dry.

If signature wasn't required, why did the UPS guy for sign it?

AUTHOR: Giselle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

And I think that is what the OP is concerned about. The UPS driver signed his name, as if he were the receiptant. I like UPS, I deal with them all the time and thankfully have never had this problem. But if a driver was signing my last name giving the impression that I had personally received the merchandise and signed for it, I would be a little annoyed too.

read the details

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

FROM the UPS web site: (via the link that was posted)

Overview
To verify the arrival of your package or shipment, UPS offers three types of (LOOK HERE at THIS WORD!) >optional
Delivery Confirmation (DC): Provides automatic confirmation of delivery for any package you designate

Delivery Confirmation Signature Required (DCSR): Provides automatic confirmation with a printed copy of the recipient's digital signature

Delivery Confirmation Adult Signature Required (DCASR): Provides automatic confirmation with a printed copy of the adult recipient's digital signature. The adult must be at least 21 years of age.
Instructions
(>>look here! You have to REQUEST THE SERVICE>)To request Delivery Confirmation, select this service through your UPS OnLine Solutions or UPS OnLine compatible shipping system.

(again, look below, its pretty obvious OPTIONAL!)
If you require the recipient's signature on the response, be sure to indicate DCSR
If you require an adult's signature on the response, be sure to indicate DCASR
Place the printed label on your package

I think this makes it very clear that signature is optional!

I THINK I AM QUALIFIED TO SAY THIS SINCE, LIKE I SAID, MY MOM WORKS FOR UPS AND DRIVES THE D@MN TRUCK! SHE HAS FOR 15 YEARS. Not only that, but I have gotten, as I stated MANY packages delivered without signature required.

So ya still want to argue with me?

Besides that, like someone said, if your package arrived safely, what do you care anyway?

AND IN THE FUTURE, YOU KNOW YOU CAN LEAVE A NOTE ON YOUR DOOR WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DRIVER!!!!

I think UPS does a great job!

AUTHOR: Christine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

I receive packages, particularly this time of year, on almost a weekly basis. Thank goodness no signatures are required, or I would never be able to get them. They are left outside my door, and if the weather is inclement, they even wrap plastic around the package. I think UPS does a great job!

UPS Ground Does Require Signature

AUTHOR: Yifan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 21, 2005

I checked on www.ups.com and I found out that UPS Ground does require a signature.

Go to

www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/select/sending/index.html?WT.svl=SubNav

Click on "Proof of Delivery (P.O.D.)"

With Proof of Delivery (P.O.D.), you can confirm that your shipment arrived.

The following is quoted from the website about the P.O.D. which is another way of saying the the package needs a signature.

"P.O.D. includes the time of delivery, full delivery address, and the name and signature of the person who accepted the shipment
View P.O.D. online, or request to have the P.O.D. sent to you through the mail or by fax
P.O.D. with an image of the recipient's signature is also available through UPS Signature TrackingTM "

And also, I have already mentioned that the package is signed by "DING" not the UPS mailman.

Anyway, I will try to contact newegg.com to get an image of my forged signature to definitely prove that the guy forged the signature.

Signatures not always required

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 20, 2005

My mom works for UPS.

Not all packages require signatures. The driver has a note for every package that indicates these things, i.e., signature required, leave at neighbor's house, specific place on property to leave package.

If the company shipped the item without signature required, the driver did nothing wrong.

If signature required and nobody is home, they will leave a note telling you to come pick it up at the center, or else it will say when they will try to deliver again.

I have had MANY items shipped UPS and very seldom have I had to sign for them.

I would check with the company you placed the order with asking them if they required signature when they shipped it before you file a report against UPS, which most likely did nothing wrong.
