I mailed two letters to my son in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Wednesday, April 20. Since one was of an important nature, I sent it priority mail, signature requested. I was assured by the clerk, and the illuminated sign in the post office, that the letter would be delivered in 2 to 3 business (postal) days. So I paid the $3.85 plus .45 for delivery confirmation.

My son received the regular first class mail on Monday, April 25. Today is Wednesday, April 27 and he has yet to receive the priority envelope. I checked on the post office website and the only information I can get is the envelope was received on April 20 (which I already know). I called customer service and was told that priority mail can take up to 10 days and to call back on the 10th day and a trace can be made. I informed her that this is not how the service is advertised or explained. Of course, there was no reply. I wish I could say this is the first time something like this has happened with me and the postal service, but it's not. Fed Ex or USPS is the only way to go.

The Postal Service delivers Billions of pieces of mail each day, to Every House. Some error should be expected.

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 28, 2006

I work for the USPS too. Kyra is very right about people getting the zip code wrong, or writing the address wrong (or messy). I'm not saying you did so but there are so many reasons mail may not make it where you send it. Every day, I see manila envelopes where the sender thought only the stupid metal clasp would hold it shut all the way accross the country. I see address labels barely taped on. I see transposed numbers in the zip code.

Here is an example: Yellowstone Park is 82190. Boston Massachusettes is 02100. We sort by the first three numbers. Now if your Zero has a slash in it it is going to end up in Yellowstone if it's written sloppy.

Montana is MT, Missouri is MO. There is a Billings Missouri and a Billings Montana. See a common error?

Sure, with us hard workers sorting billions of pieces of mail each day... even with an error rate of .01% (which would be damned good) there are going to be thousands of mistakes. DUH.

By the way: Bet you didn't know that your mail is put on airplanes operated by FedEX and also some is put on UPS planes. So be careful how you critisize.

We do a good job and we work our butts off!!

AUTHOR: Kyra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 13, 2006

I have worked for the US Postal service for 6 years. I am so sick to death of some of you idiots saying we don't do our jobs, or deliver your mail incorrectly. We do our best to give the best customer service that we can. Mail that is delayed is usually due to some idiot who either doesn't know how to proofread the address they put on the mailpiece before mailing it out, or their handwriting is crappy, hard to read, and not easily deciphered, not by the machines which "read" the address and send it on to the correct post office, but also not easily deciphered by the poor carrier who has to try and READ the chicken scratchings that some people try to pass off as writing. Granted sometimes mistakes are made, but that is every where, not the just the postal service! I ordered a satellite system last year. It was delivered to someone out in Florida by UPS (!!!!!), and I live in Michigan!!!!
Fed Ex, UPS, and the US postal service are all good companies. We all have hard working people who try their hardest to get their jobs done correctly and satisfy the customers.
If all you people whining about us had to do our jobs for just ONE day, and saw just how HARD we all really DO work, you would shut the hell up and be grateful for all the effort put in to what we do to get your letters and packeages delivered to you safely.

Timeline

One thing you need to remember is that Priority mail is never given a guaranteed date. Only Express Mail. Priority Mail should only take 2-3 days but can take longer.

The boxes are still free. The problem I've seen with people is that they instead choose one of the plain white boxes from the mailing center for which there is a charge. Unless it's the preprinted one there shouldn't be a charge. I order them regularly to be delivered by mail to me at home.

Mail Delivered to your DOOR!!

AUTHOR: Lisa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 27, 2005

Last year I had a problem with the post office delivering packages to my door. When family would send my children gifts, they'd send it by USPS. The entrance to my apartment is in the alley. So they addressed it, Alley Entrance. The mail carrier refuses to bring it to my door. Yet, when I received pictures through the mail, they bring that to my door. The USPS is really messed up. I usually use UPS or Fedex.
And that delivery confirmation crap, is that- crap. I hand deliver things if I have to and have the agency stamp it in front of me that it was received.
And since when did the USPS start charging for their priority boxes? Geeze, you think the $4.95 fee they charge would cover the postage and box!!??
