Last week, I was online looking for a loan. I entered my banking information on one website that I used in the past. I check my online bank statement this morning and guess what? There was a charge for $149.95 taken out from a company called USA Credit. I called the bank because I did not authorize any such charges. The bank said I needed to contact the company directly and they gave me the phone number. I put my game plan into order. I got out my personal recorder and popped in a tape.

I immediatly called USA Credit at 1-800-685-9354 and spoke to a lady concerning this matter. She introduced herself and before I gave her any chance to ask me any questions, I told her I was recording this conversation and did she mind. She said no and we proceeded with our conversation. She stated I filled out a "Three in one" application and, just before I entered my banking information, I supposedly checked a box that authorized them to debit my checking account for $149.95. I told the lady she was full of "you know what" and I wanted the application and any other documents faxed to me ASAP so I can review it. She told me I had to contact Jacklyn Johnson at 1-800-570-9823 and Ms. Johnson would forward this info to my local police department.

I did not understand why it would be sent to the police department! I told her any other company would be more than happy to send me the requested info if it was legit. She insisted this is the way USA Credit handles these kind of requests.

Not satisfied with the results so far, I decided I had to get a little harsh with her. I told her I wanted my money put back into my account today because I did not authorize these charges. She told me they first had to wait until they received notification that the funds have been issued from my bank and then they could refund my money, MINUS a $30.00 cancellation fee, which would be in about 8 days.

Well, least to say, I BLEW A GASKET. I wanted to speak with a supervisor. After holding for about 5 minutes, a supervisor named Mark came on the line. Again, I told him I was recording the conversation. After he "reviewed" the notes made by the previous lady, he told me they would refund the whole $149.95 into my account once they receive notification that the funds have been released from my bank.

I told Mark that the previous lady said $30.00 would be withheld for cancellation. Mark then told me they were going to waive the fee and refund me to whole amount, but it would take up to 8 days for this to occur. I BLEW ANOTHER GASKET. I told him I wanted it in there TODAY because it has already came out of my account and if he did not believe me, he could call my bank himself. Well, after he saw I was not going to go down without a fight, he transferred me to their Payment Verification Dept (1-888-805-7611).

In the Payment Verification Dept, I spoke with a very nice man named Donald. Again, I told him the call was being recorded. Upon discussing the issue with Donald, he told me I needed to contact my bank, have my bank 3-way him, and after they verify the funds have been released from my bank, they would re-deposit the $149.99 within 72 hours.

I contacted my bank and they really did not want to do anything to help me out. I threatened to call the Texas Department of Banking if I did not get someone to help me out with this. Once I made that threat, the bank jumped on the phone and 3-wayed Donald with USA Credit. The bank verified the funds have been released. While on the phone with the bank, Donald told my bank they would return the funds within 72 hours, just as he promised. I thanked both Donald and Doris (the lady with my bank) and hung up.

About two hours later, Doris with my bank called me and stated that since they have it on record USA Credit told them the funds were going to be returned, they were going to remove the "dispute" status off my account and if I did not receive the funds as promised, contact her and she would go to battle for me.

Word of advice: Be presistant! Don't let these SCAM ARTISTS scare you. Ask for proof that you authorized these charges. DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. Also, check with the state you live in. If it is legal, record your whole conversation with USA Credit and tell each and every person you speak with you are recording it (VERY IMPORTANT). Also, don't let your bank tell you they cannot help you with this!! Good luck but keep up the fight.
