On April 3rd 2009 I went into Vandergriff Honda in Arlington. After 4 hours of negotiating payments and down payments and the trade in and pay off of my then current vehicle, we reached an agreement and I went in to sign paperwork on my new 2009 Honda Accord.

I was handed my copy of the contract with my payments listed and the date they were due. I thought the deal was complete.

Five days later I receive 2 calls from the Business manager and the finance manager telling me there is a problem with the financing and that the bank wants more money down or a co-signer. I tell them I don't have either and that is what I told them when we were making the deal to begin with.

They said don't worry, we are working with the bank. Some people are in their cars for a month before the banks finally approves them and worst case scenario is that you will have to bring the car back and we will give you yours back.

Bring the care back??!!! This can't be happening. These people at Vandergriff pretend to sell you a car that has already been 100% financed. Yet, they know the bank isn't buying the deal or maybe the bank did buy the deal and they are lying to get more money out of you. How do you really know???

Yes, they do have you sign the paper that says if the financing doesn't go thru you have to return the vehicle. But wait! They make you think that the financing DID go thru. They even ask you for a voided check so that if you want, the payments can be debited from your checking account. It's like the deal is complete.

They wait a few days and call you to tell you the deal will have to be re negotiated with a co-signer and that the bank will not take the deal unless they add the full warranty at a price of 2,000.00 and that they need to hike up the cost of the car to make up for what I am upside down on my trade.

I did get a co signer, my poor mom who is 74 yo. I should have just walked away, but needed the car and did not want to start this nightmare over with another dealer.

I am still mortified that this deal will not go thru and I will be contacted again and they will want something else. I felt as though I was dealing with the mob. I feel violated, and even though I like Honda products, every time I look at my car, I feel raped and humiliated.

These people are shady and take advantage of others. I'm quite sure they single out women who have little experience buying cars. I had a better experience going thru tote the note dealers in the past than these predators.

I am still trying to separate Honda products from Vandergriff Honda. I really hate these people and I hope others who don't have financing in place from their banks or credit unions will keep away from Vandergriff Honda.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

Illegal condition for loan approval.

""...and that the bank will not take the deal unless they add the full warranty at a price of 2,000.00 and that they need to hike up the cost of the car to make up for what I am upside down on my trade. ""

This is ILLEGAL in the U.S. Requiring the purchase of any type of warranty as a condition of obtaining an auto loan is illegal and actionable.

You should file a complaint with your state attorney general, the FTC, and the licensing authority for auto dealers in your state.

Good luck.

I had the same thing

I had been getting calls and emails for Vandergriff about trading in my civic for a new or used car, because they were not getting alot of people coming in with trades. So I thought hey what a great thing it would be the 3rd car I got from them. I had a 2003 civic it was great, then went and traded that for a 2005 civic which was used by nice. Later on I moved to Houston Texas and try to work on it at a Honda Dealer down there, they wouldn't even touch it! They said it had been wrecked and wouldn't do the work I had to take it back to Vandergriff. Now Vandergriff did not tell me about the civic even when I ask them about it at the time I was buying. (NO CARFAX at the time) Now here I am thinking about buying another car from them. Why I know now. On June 3 2009 I get a call from the internet sales person about the car I was looking at on the web site. So I tell her WHAT I want and the payments I want. DO NOT waste my time. I think that's fair, right? She says they can do everything I wanted. So I go in, do the papers and its so great I feel like I am dreaming. I wish I had been. I sign the papers including the one that says "IF" they can't get someone to take me that I would have to bring the car back. OK...Then a couple days later they tried to get me to put money down or a co-signer. I reminded them that I told them at the beginning that all I had was the trade in that was it!!!! Then the next week Mike calls me and said he did not get all the paper work. So I send him more papers that I already had giving them. Then other couple days go by and the bank calls me so I'm thinking it's because they wanted to thank me for going threw them. That was not the cause they did not get the papers that were missing and they sent it back to Vandergriff. So I called to talk to Mike and the sales girl. First I send them papers AGAIN. Then she calls me back and said that the bank so I got mad and was yelling at them. Now I was upset as anyone else would be too. So they tell me they are trying everything they can so I can keep the car. I try calling them to see what is going on. NOTHING no answer no call backs. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!! So I am getting real upset I know I am going to have to give the car back and I'm not happy. After fours and NO one has called me and its getting close to them closing. I deiced to go get my car back and the hell with them. They have wasted two weeks of my time and I ask them not to do that. Ok..... So I walk in to get my car some guy ask me if I need help and I said I need to get my car back. He ask me my name and I next thing I know I'm waiting for someone to get it. When I guy came with my car he tells me there was nothing they could do. What I don't understand is why Mike could not call me and tell me to come and get the car. I had to figure that out on my own!!!! Now it's been almost two weeks after I give them the car back and they have the BALLS to car me and try to make me another deal since I get a car from them in 2005. I laughed and ask them to take me off there call list I would never do business with them again nor if I can help it no one will else. He hang up on me does say anything like I'm sorry maybe I can do something again NOTHING. So Now I am dealing with the next step of this worst ordeal. NEVER go to Vandergriff for anything. Their LIE CHEAT and god know what else. May they burn in hell for screwing the customers that come back to get another car from them again. I'll go to another Honda dealer ship before going there again. Sad it all that time wasted.
