Yesterday I had a very painful surgery done on my mouth, and after leaving my doctor's office around 2pm, I went straight to the Walgreens Pharmacy located on 13680 N. Kendall Drive, Miami, Fla. and dropped off my 2 prescriptions with a young girl at the drive up window, I wrote a note indicating that I was unable to talk, and to please put a rush on my prescriptions (ESPECIALLY the pain killer) as I knew in less than an hour I would be in so much pain, I had a big cut in my gum and mouth. When my husband arrived he was first told to wait an hour, and he waited about 30 minutes, told him this was supposed to be ready! it was already aft.5pm so the office had closed, although the recording indicated to call their pager, he never bothered paging them! After a long hour, pharmacist Kasi Visweswar-Sannidihi told my husband he would NOT be able to fill the prescriptions because "he could NOT read the instructions" and that he had just arrive and he blamed his staff! I became hysterical, in pain and arguing with this man who I can barely understand, I was ready to pass out from the pain and from the anguish just knowing he was refusing to fill my prescription, and hung up on me. I called back and requested the Store Manager to see if you could help me out (Larry Barbados) by this time, I was already in tears from the pain I was suffering! he instead transferred me to a recording to leave my name and number! I could not even describe the anguish and the anger I was feeling from their lack of concern, their whole attitude and how poorly they treated this issue, I have no words right now, so I asked my husband to pick up the prescriptions and take them to CVS, I called the pharmacist there and a young lady by the name of Andrea helped us out, she immediately filled both prescriptions WITHOUT any difficulties, and they were able to fill my prescriptions without a single problem, I will NEVER go back to Walgreens! and I am filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the Consumer Protection Agency and anyone who regulates incompetent pharmacists and their staff, this was unacceptable!

It was for your safety

I work as a pharmacy technician at a Wal-Mart pharmacy. I can assure you that the pharmacist on duty was only doing his job, if he cannot make out the directions on a prescription, he cannot safely fill it. It is his responsibility to make sure that he tells you how to take the medication properly so you don't suffer any ill effects of not taking enough or accidentally overdosing. Handwritten prescriptions are often done hastily, and they are often very hard do decipher. However, there was a failure on the pharmacies part to use the pager number to get a hold of the doctor in order to clarify the situation in a timely manner. As a technician, I would advise that if you are in this situation again, politely ask the doctor if he can have the prescription phoned in to the pharmacy of your choice (it is illegal for narcotics to be e-scripted, but they can still be phoned in from the doctor, at least in my state). They will either leave it on the pharmacies voice mail, or can give it directly to the pharmacist on duty, which eliminates most misunderstandings. Then call the pharmacy yourself, and tell them when you would like to pick it up. There is no excuse for the pain you were in, but unfortunately, if he couldn't read the prescribed instructions, he could not in good conscience (or lawfully) give you the medication.
