I have never, ever been a Webroot customer. In fact, I'd never heard of them until yesterday when I logged on to my bank account and noticed a fraudulent charge there from them. I contacted my bank and they canceled my ATM / Check card because it had been compromised. Then I contacted Webroot. All day long I got the runaround - the only person who had time to be bothered with answering me was a corporate / business account guy who could not help me anyway.
I wanted them to reverse the charges, that's it. I didn't want a refund or a check...just wanted them to undo the charges they levied against my account without my knowledge or consent. As of today, they have not bothered to respond with any type of resolution nor have they reversed the charges to my account.
As you can see by the date, this is the holiday shopping season and I'm sure you've also noticed the country's economy is in the tank right now. Fine time for a company like Webroot to rip off a single mom who had never wanted nor known of their service before they stole money from her account.
As it stands now, not only am I out the $42.21 Webroot stole from me but I'm also out all the NSF fees from my bank since the Webroot transaction is causing my legitimate ones to "bounce". Unfortunately, given the economical circumstances our country is faced with right now, like many others, I am on a VERY strict budget and, sadly, $42 really does make a big difference to me. Now I'm stuck with the embarrassment of bouncing checks to people I know (doctor's offices, etc.) and having to face them and I'm also stuck with numerous fees from my bank that would never have occurred had Webroot not allowed this fraudulent charge to stick to my account once I notified them it was not a valid or authorized charge.

HOW did they get your bank account info?

Obviously you gave up your bank account information to someone. They could not have made the charge to your account without your bank account information.
Think about it.
All you need to do is challenge the charge as not authorized. You need to assert your rights under Regulation E of the federal banking rules. You need to do this in person at your bank, or in writing via certified mail, return reciept requested.
That fact that you are a single mom is totally irrelevent.
Just common sense here, but you should never use your checking account info for online purchases or over the phone purchases. This includes your debit card.
Always use an actual credit card for online or over the phone purchases. Again, just common sense here.
Many websites are sneaky and they have these sort of "authorizations" hidden in plain sight when you are doing some other purchase. Always look for the fine print and the little checkboxes. Many times these little checkboxes are checked by default and you have to uncheck the bo prior to checking out.
Also watch out for any "free" trial offers that ask for your credit card info.
In any case, no disputes are done overnight. They usually take like 30 days. If your account is that low on funds, why would you use it for anything other than ATM transactions or in person debit purchases? Again, just common sense. You set yourself up to have problems.
