I always wanted to own an old cop car, having been associated with public safety for many moons. After selling my other car, I found a great 2003 Ford Crown Victoria with on their website. Their operaton has been in business for twenty years, and they sell a lot of cars to taxi companies, security firms, etc. The price for the car was right, and I went to see the car, and drove it in the neighborhood. Car ran fine. The next day, I came back with a cashiers check for the amount of the car, and drove it off the lot. By the time I got it up to a neighboring suburb, the 'Check Engine' light had come on. As the car needed an oil change, I had a local shop do the oil change and check the 'Check Engine' code, which turned out to be a minor ignition coil replacement. The next morning, the 'O/D OFF" light started to flash, and I took the car to a major transmission business in Chicago. Lo and behold, the manager took one look at the codes, and flat out told me I needed a new transmission. When I called the dealer, who told me that he PERSONALLY drove this car, and "had no problems with it" and told him the transmission failed completely, he told me he was suprised, and told me to take the car to some transmission shop that he reccommended. I'm sorry, but I won't trust this guy again, and the transmission shop I took it to (a national chain with an excellent reputation) had the car done properly.

In essence what he did was take my money and give me a vehicle he darn well knew was bad. Make sure you check out other locations first; this guy may sell you a bad car!

Car is still running and repainted

AUTHOR: RenegadeChauffeur - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2011

Update--A year later,  I still have that car...it's still running well, but the doors/trunk lid had to be painted due to the fact the outline of the word POLICE still could be seen from where the decals were, and a local law enforcement agency kinda had a problem with it. Other than that, the car now has 126,300 miles on it, and it runs well.
