I started in Werner in 2003, and am still there but am looking to finally get out. Promises made never kept. No wonder people badmouth the company so much. And you can't even do anything about it for after all we are not employees of "Werner" but DMI/Drivers Management Inc. So Werner can never get sued or anything.
Many times I have supposedly recieved a $1200 paycheck in a week or sometimes even $1400, I still would like to know in that case why do I always get a $300-400 or even 500 as a paycheck? Wheres the rest of the money? Taxes cannot be that much. That over 3/4ths of the paycheck is gone and I am left with mere pay just barely enough to surivive on.
Recently I was offered an account with better CPM, and a 2500mile week guarantee. So far I have seen 1960 miles in a week, mostly on back roads ,no time to shower, eat or break, run run run, trips are planned by the planners so tight that if it takes 5hours to get 250miles at 50mph, U have from time of pickup to delivery 4.75 hrs to legally make ontime, on back roads, through small towns, hustle and then my paycheck is $350 or $400.
How are we to survive out here? Gas prices are skyhigh, buying a decent car is at least $2000+, rents are expensive, truckstop food is expensive, My dad wonders why I cannot save any money. And I told him, you gotta get money to save money. If one week your paycheck is $650 after taxes, and the next 4 weeks ranges between $20-130 or some weeks you get a 0 check, how are we to survive out here????
And as far as I can tell, if a person is guaranteed 2500 miles per week, one should get 2500 miles per week, and not 1840 or 1960.
Best of luck everyone, time for me to move on! To a company that at least pays a decent check.

Employees Are Going To Get Ripped Off No Metter What Industry, it seems

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 11, 2008

Thanks for the heads up!

I was actually considering to go to these people's truck driving school but after hearing about THIS???????? NO WAY IN HELL!

I didn't understand all of it because of the way in which it was written but I got the gist of it and that is NOT TO WORK FOR THESE PEOPLE! EVER!

Maybe all the undocumented truck drivers swarming over the borders are lowering the wages and working conditions a little?

After you have 1-3 yrs.OTR go to work somewhere else. I can't tell you where because that seems to be prohibited on this site but you need to join Teamsters and drive for a company who uses their drivers!

Like I said a spinoff

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 09, 2008

Just because a company is a spinoff doesn't mean the same people don't own it.

Like I said they created the driver management company and run it for the HR side. The OP can still probably sue DMI or file a complaint against them which ever works best.

Sounds like they broke there driver management to a different company

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 25, 2007

I think what the original poster means is that Werner DMI is a spinoff from Werner Trucking. Alot of companies do this to make themselves look more profitable or to create expenses. Werner trucking pays Werner DMI to hire and pay their drivers. Creating an expense for Werner Trucking. Take a look at the Werner Trucking site you can see where they make it appear that one company hires and pays the drivers without Werner Trucking worrying about payroll and other HR stuff.

More suggestions for the OP weemployretardsnoexprequired

It sounds like you got sucked into a lease and don't even know it.

Also, driving illegally or on too tight of a schedule is soley your decision. No one can make you do this. Even the request is illegal. The choice is yours. Just say no.

You must be very young which explains most of this post. As you reference conversations with your Dad as to why you have no money.

Eating at truck stops is also your choice. I used to shop at Walmart while on the road. I ate in the truck the same as I would at home.

You sound suprised about the deductions. WHERE ARE YOUR PAYSTUBS? What do they say? Do you even read them?

Did anyone make that 2500 mile/week guarantee in writing? Probably not. That means there is no guarantee unless it is in writing. Verbal promises mean absolutely nothing.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Proper information should be given when filing a report. Please answer these questions.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

You say that you work for Werner, and then say you are not an employee of Werner! Which is it?

Are you an employee/company driver, or an independent contractor/lease driver? This is very important info for us to have.

Also, any deductions from an EMPLOYEES paycheck need to be authorized IN ADVANCE by the employee. If this is not the case, you need to file a wage claim with the wage and hour board in your state.

If you are an independent contractor/lease driver, the amounts deducted are your truck expenses, etc. These also need to be itemized.

Do you not know how to read a paystub and/or settlemnt sheet? I don't see the big mystery here.
