This is an agency where welfare moms and dads are sent to get back into the work market. Upper management who seem to be of the opinion that former welfare recepiants are pond scum and treats them accordingly.

I have been the target of abuse by a male field supervisor who gets his jollies browbeatings and humilating women. He talks to these welfare mom's like they are felons.

I've been reprimanded for smoking. I don't smoke. I've been reprimanded for speeding. Very unlikely! I am a very conservative driver.

I inadvertly used to company card to purchase diesel for a trucker. Afterwards, I was hammered by the misogyntic field supervisor. It was an error. I sent a money order to pay for the ill-gotten disel. If I make mistakes, I will take responsibility but I don't want to be hammered for them. I was given 30 days probation. No big deal. I just did my job.

Yep, I've been late for work a few times. Maybe there are some people who get up brighteyed and cheerfully drive on 25 miles of black ice and dodge the deer to get to work at 4 am. I am not one of them.

I finally finished the 30 days of probation and received a call that the probation had been extended. I forgot to turn the bar lights on the truck off. This is sooooo trivial. It's easy to conclude that I am a target. I wrote a letter to Governor Wise and also the Welfare Department to let them know what they were sending these women to. I also sent letters to Congress Reps Nick Rahall and Rockerfeller.

This Morning, I've been told that I am suspended pending legal investigation for misrepresenting the company. I am only trying to stand up to abuse.

Women who are sent to Courtesy Patrol by the Welfare Department are often subject to unreasonable browbeating and humiliation. Many of these women are in the predicament that they are because of domestic violence. Workplace abuse is unacceptable. These women need to be empowered, not sabotaged. Quite often, it is the ones who want to do the job well who are targeted.

Other - Courtesty Patrol and WorkPlace Abuse
Unemployment Benefits eventually ran and Courtesy Patrol came along. This job was a Godsend. I fell in love with the Transportation Industry. If I make a mistake, I take responsibility for the mistake, learn from it and move forward. Management won't allow that. Their policy is to belittle and humiliate drivers. The field supervisor is cruel. I have been told that he is just implementing the policies of director. Drivers tell me that they too are being nit-picked apart and abused. I am inclined to believe that I am a target because I stand up to them and I WILL blow the whistle. I came home tonight, screaming, crying, shaking. I felt close to having a nervous break-down. I called the Seneca Mental Health Hot Line. Tommorrow, I am talking to a recuiter for a trucking company. Friday, I am going to go apply for a Class D licence and talk to some tow truck companies. I can't stay in a hostile work enviorment. It will make me sick. Still, I know that other drivers are also abused. The Welfare Department send them to Courtesty Patrol in good faith. A lot of women get into the predictment that they do because of abusive spouses. They don't need to be abused by an employer too. I am writing this letter because I would like for Courtesty Patrol to be a better place for the drivers to be. The purpose is good but the abuse has to stop. I tried to appeal to management but they seem to be one unhappy disfunctional family. This is a State Sponsored Program. Maybe you can help them.

It amazed me that this company spend top dollars trying to prevent me from getting about three months worth of unemployment. They took it all the way to the Circuit Court and the case got thrown out. I am hoping they take it to the Supreme Court. Maybe laws to protect the worker from bullies would be created.

It seems like such a waste of taypayer dollars. They paid more for the lawyer than what they were trying to prevent me from getting. The lawyer was getting almost entertaining to go toe-to-toe with. His big arguement was that there was available employment - therefore I did not qualify for unemployment. Actually, I only applied for Unemployment when the job that I acquired AFTER working for WVCCC did not work out so it blew that arguement out of the water.

Luckily - When I knew I was a target - I started documenting. That documentation blew the rest of the arguement - including the one that I was mentally unstable out of the water. The lawyer even tried to say that I had voodoo doll of the supervisor and was sticking in it. The judge laughed about that one.

It seems like they depend on being able to run circles around some uneducated welfare mom with an abundance of nonsense. If I could beat them with my humble Associates Degree, I would love to see what a Real Lawyer could do.

A positive is that my battles paved the way for the next bullied worker from WVCCC. All worker should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of perceived status. This is the message I want to get across to the West Virginia Taxpayers. They deserve better.

Patrol bad to all

My husban was refered to the curtosey patrol by the dhhr and worked very hard never late all by the book. Still they treated him like he was pond scum. When the news did a special report on t.v my husban asked to please not be interviewed due to the fact that we had 4 boys and we diddnt want them to be embarrased about us being on Welfare.

They told my husban that he had to drive the news crew around or eles.(you get the point) If he got fired we would lose all benifits. My husban degraded himself and did what he had to do in order to support our family.

He was told that if he worked hard they would put him on 1st shift but after he diddnt want to go on tv they told him he was back on 3rd shift and he still had to go on tv.

I know this is a good program but crappy people run it. I wish they knew what it felt like to bust your a$$ and people still treat you like crap.

Shame on you Curtosy Patrol as for BOb Wise well thats a waste of breath. I am glad to report that was over 2 years ago and now my husban owns his own bussiness as a delivery driver for a well respected company he has one employee who we pay well and treat even better

My preception was that the field supervisor was coming across as intimidating, I reacted by not wanting to continue the conversation. Is it professional for a supervisor to talk to a suboriniate this way? I don't think so. I just got back from two weeks of truck driving school.

All of my instructors were ex-marines who had good reason to get frustrated with me and my struggles to master double clutching. None of them yelled at me. Although they did suggest that I might consider going to a technical school that teaches truck driving at a slower pace. Finding solutions through Honest communication without browbeating or being disrespectful. Nobody has to put anybody down.

At the least this field supervisor is disrespectful and unprofessional. My error was my reaction to it. I wrote some very heated letters to management about it. I have been told by domestic violence support groups that this reaction is not uncommon for women who have a history of being abused. It doesn't make it right but it does make it understandable.

Honest Direct Communication - Airing Grivances and problem solving in a manner that is respectful. Good management will allow two way communication to acheive just that.

Can't make it to work on time. Improper use of a company credit card. Attitude like there is no tomorrow. I am suprised you lasted as long as you did.

I have hire off of welfare at some of the companies I worked for. We tried to help people understand the basic minimum requirements of deportment needed to stay employed. Almost all succeded. The ones that didn't were the ones who felt "owed."

Good luck, you sound like you are going to need it.

I was terminated from the job - for whatever reason. I eventually had to file for unemployment. They protested it. The (bless thier hearts) cowards had to hide behind a lawyer who participated by telephone.

Early on I was advised the the battle was not between me and them. It was between me and my reactive self. The lawyer did the predictible - presented me as an unbalanced woman who imagined the abuse. He slammed me pretty badly. I think he was counting on me reacting to help him along.

I was disqualified for six weeks. Insuborination because I removed my self from the supervisor's hammering. It was totally counter-productive to keep listening to him. Adults should not yell at other adults for making a mistake. Also Simple Misconduct for expressing the desire to make a voodoo doll (bless his heart ) of the supervisor and stick pins in his weewee. He is not worth the energy to do that! After talking to some woman in a domestic violence group. I was told that woman who have past issues with abuse often OVER REACT when they preceive that they are being abused. At least this expains why I responded the way I did. This is a work to welfare program. A lot of woman get into the predictment they do because of domestic violence. This company needs to look at the way they treat these woman. They will be dealing with a whole bunch of so called unbalanced woman who will over react when they preceive that they are being abuse. This supervisor needs to learn some manners and treat women with more respect. Just my not so humble opinion.

Reading your report I just had a thought you might not have considered. I might be wrong, but looking at the closing of both of original report and update I am going to assume you do not follow a "main stream" religion. If these people found out about it do you think they might have let you go partially for that? People who do not understand rather get rid of us that put forth an effort, and that is religious discrimination.
Like I said, an assumption and a thought to consider.
