Our Complaints Supervisor passed on your information to me to do an investigation into this company.    So far, I have determined that the Ottawa address (5929 L Jeanne DArc Blvd.), is a strip mall, and they are not physically  located there.  There was a UPS Store at this address, that has now closed.  I believe that Westingdale probably rented a UPS box from them.  We found, by internet search (hotfrog.com) a  Toronto office for Westingdale.  This address (20 Bay St. 11th floor) is a virtual office (a business centre that receives mail for companies, and forwards it on).   I have found a phone number to contact this Toronto virtual office, and I dials through to Salt Lake City!!!   Ive left a voicemail for the manager, to see if Westingdale was a client, and if they have an address where they forward their mail.  When I call the Toronto phone number for Westingdale, and the 800 phone number, no matter what extension I dial, I get We are not available now.  Leave a voicemail.  I did so, but Im sure if they call, and we answer, BBB, theyll hang up.    The international phone number (1-267-202-5277) on the website for Westingdale is a Philadelphia phone number.  I determined this by using Googling the area code (267), and 411.com says its a landline, but you have to pay them to see who owns the phone number.  Ive looked up who owns the Westindale web address, and it says that Westindale is located at 1 Yonge Street, Suite 1801, Toronto.  I looked up this address, and its, guess what, ANOTHER virtual office!  I found the owners of this virtual business centre, and they confirmed that Westingdale was a client for them until 2009.  They (the virtual office owners), do not have a forwarding address for them.  It appears from their website that Westingdale sells mutual funds.  Any company in Ontario that does so must be licensed under the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC).  I contacted the OSC, and Westingdale is NOT licensed.  Unfortunately, the OSC cannot investigate them until they sell to an Ontario  consumer.  Here is the link for our review of Westingdale:http://www.bbb.org/ottawa/business-reviews/business-consultants/westingdale-limited-in-ottawa-on-45190?isbureau=Y&language=1

#4 Consumer Suggestion

Set the record straight

AUTHOR: William - (Canada)

I have had the pleasure of researching and investigating the company.  In fact, their reputation and
success is quite substantial.  In fact, I hired them to actively work on my project and know several that have are working with them.

The true fact is that the complaint comes from people who took advantage of the company and did not follow company guidelines or best business practises.  The people complaining in this report are in fact out-of-line and using this venue as useless revenge.   Anyone with a true claim would not hide anonymous.  Those are only those with something to hide.

In business, there is success and disappointments.   Those with good business practises tend to
succeed.  Those with less honourable intentions usually get caught and fail.  In both negative claims here, the authors are those people.

Westingdale has proven to be a highly successful company for those who have hired their services.

They may not have fancy high profile offices, but that is because they are about putting the resources into the success of their clients.  Addresses and PO boxes means nothing.   The company would not exist across North America and around the world for so long if they weren't successful.  They have been good to me and my colleagues.

For those who want to believe the claims of people with no facts or names - then clearly this company is not for you.  If you're interested in working with them - contact them.   You don't need this website to make your decision.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Jim from Orleans?

AUTHOR: PeterM - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Is this the same Jim from Orleans who, earlier in the year, was ordered in Court to pay Westingdale $23,000; admitted to the Judge during the hearing that he engaged in illegal and criminal actions against his tenants; and whose wife Therese threatened in Court to shoot an officer of the company. These Court filings, orders and transcripts are public documents. Is this guy whack?? I believe a little objectivity would be appropriate here.

So?

What difference does it make if a company uses virtual offices? In fact, most small businesses prefer working out of virtual offices. A smart business owner would see the benefits of using these offices. Please see:

This report sounds like a disgruntled employee, and not an actual ripoff. If anything, I feel bad for the business not having an effectively streamlined communications system. That sounds bad for business, but as I said, hardly a ripoff.

Also, if you are going to post a Better Business Bureau report, shouldn't it exist? Your link was broken, and when trying to search on my own, Westingdale Limited wasn't even listed.

When I checked their website (www.westingdale.com) there wasn't one single mention of mutual funds. Get your facts straight.

I am also a victim of  David Haig and Westingdale. I have information about his past activities and would like to learn more about these recent reports from the person(s) who were victimized.
