I contacted and scheduled a move with Wirks. The move was to cost $1450. Pick-up 8 am on 12/20/2010 (monday morning). The sales person (Ernie) guaranteed delivery by 12/28/2010 in Washington, DC. He was also attempting to make the delivery sooner (12/23/2010). As I needed, to reserve an elevator at the destination, I continued to pursue an exact delivery time. On the morning of Saturday 12/18/2010, another person from Wirks, Jim, contacted me to schedule delivery. In the morning, he assured me it would not be 12/23/2010 but it would be on or before 12/31/2010.

Late in the evening of 12/18/2010 Jim called to tell me that not only would they not be delivering by 12/31/2010 but that he really had no idea when the delivery would take place--"maybe the first week of January." Both Ernie and Jim knew that the delivery had to be received no later than 1/3/2011. After 1/3/2011, I would not be available for receipt for several weeks. Late on a Saturday night before my Monday morning move, Jim informed me that the only way I could be guaranteed delivery by 12/31/2010 would be if I paid $1950 rather than the $1450 I was originally quoted for a "no later than" 12/28/2010 delivery.

This is clearly bait and switch. They put me into a terrible position that is now going to cost me thousands of dollars to get out of. I've been forced to cancel non-refundable flights. I'm having to pay much higher numbers for a "no notice" move. I've had to change and cancel all of my holiday plans. They knew full well that I'd never be able to get another mover on Saturday night or Sunday and just expected me to cave to the extortion of an additional $500.

We Never Gave A Guarantee On The Flexible Move Option

AUTHOR: SRobert - ()

POSTED: Monday, January 20, 2014

For the record, we NEVER GUARANTEED an exact move date and time for this customer until they wanted us to change their move proposal.  Why?... because the customer wanted the most affordable option to have their household goods shipped from Georgia to Washington, DC.  What does that look like?... we let the customer know that we can combine their shipment with a different shipment that needs to be delivered near their actual move destination.  This means the customer’s shipment would be held until we had another shipment going out, which is usually a matter of weeks.  If the customer is able to be flexible then we are able to offer this more affordable option.  The customer fully understood this option and chose to move forward with it.

Now, at some point, the customer asked us if we could just load and deliver their shipment on an exact date because they didn’t want to go with the more affordable, but flexible, shipping option anymore.  We were happy to oblige and wrote up a new proposal to honor their request and, naturally, the proposal price went up since they wouldn’t be sharing the cost of the transportation with another shipper anymore.  Well, the customer didn’t like the idea of paying more for their revised move proposal and decided not to use us anymore and has tried to make us wrong for not being able to give them the same price for a new move that would have cost us more to do.

Great Experience with Wirks Moving and Storage

AUTHOR: DSkurky - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 29, 2010

After reading this review above on Wirks Moving and Storage, I was reluctant to go with them. However, I spoke with Ernie and he reassured me of their quality service. I am extremely grateful I hired Wirks for my move they loaded, drove 400 miles and unloaded my 2bdrm condo all in the same day. No hidden fees, no shenanigans, just solid customer service.

Ernie and Jim were receptive and accommodating with my requests and even called me the night before the move about the anticipated bad weather.

The main mover, Alan, was incredible! He was right on time, professional with his crew, delicate with our contents, polite to my wife, efficient with the loading and unloading and all-around very pleasant to work with. He was smiling the entire time and understanding & patient when I had issues with my car and was delayed a couple hours. I can't say enough good things about Alan. I highly recommend requesting him if you go with Wirks.
