Was with Victoria ins. for my car inshurance, I changed my policy and payed off the old policy, aprox 150.00.  45 days later i get a notice that i owe 33.29 and i have to pay imediatly, i call to see what the issue was, and am told that my policy was extended (with out my knolege or permission) and the pay off amount had changed AFTER i payed them off. I asked them why it took 45 days to figure that out and contact me, and was told that thats the way they do business. with in a week of the first notice there was a second notice and 3 days a collections letter from www.warningnotice.com.  Total scam.

just because you think it makes more sense that you're unhappy with high rates or the company in general so you leave and/or find new insurance - does not mean you may not end up owing to a company, absolutely true you can cancel or end your insurance at any point, but you ARE under CONTRACT with these companies, and whether it's early termination penalties or the client taking back the percentage of discounts they gave you for not staying until the end or because you didn't provide the correct documentation they needed (just a few of the many examples) and! it doesnt always matter if you paid in full up front OR recieved a refund or had your new insurance send them what they needed, and instead of blaming the debt collection agency - try following up with the past insurance company when you FIRST recieve a bill instead of ignoring it and letting it end up in collections (which you're warned about) because once the account is there the process of disputing it is more difficult and frustrating for everyone involved, if you want to write it off as a scam just because you think it makes more sense that you SHOULDNT owe, then by all means do so, after you refuse payment - all debt collectors want to tell you exactly what you'll need to do to properly dispute an account if you believe there is an error, there ARE ways and genuine reasons to do so, but it's also not the agencies responsibility to prove you owe a balance, the INSURANCE COMPANY says you owe AND put your account there, and i refuse to make the argument "oh the debt collectors - they're just doing their job" - everyone knows they're a pain in the a*s and no one wants to cough up cash for something they believe and disagree with, the point is to stop wasting time fighting with them and posting crap online and call the client that states you owe and demand an explination.
