I dropped off my 2004 GSXR 1000 at Xtreme Motorsports in early June to have the engine & drive train installed back into the motorcycle. A previous shop had un-installed the engine for repairs then went out of business. Keith, in the Service Department at Xtreme Motorsports quoted me $200 to install the engine back into the motorcycle over the phone. He said the normal labor rate was $400 to remove & replace an engine, so half price to install only. I agreed to this pricing and had my motorcycle towed to the shop. Upon arrival, Keith said it should not be a problem and the original quote stuck even after seeing the motorcycle and components. The communication with the service department was absolutely horrible, with no calls made to me for any updates or information. Anytime I needed an update or information on the status of my motorcycle job, I had to call, or I would never hear a thing. Keith was supposed to inventory all the components and parts I dropped off with the motorcycle that day to make sure I was not missing anything, but I never heard from him. Around a week later, I called him for an update and he then stated I was missing my engine oil cooler & chain. I explained I would provide these missing parts and then dropped the parts off three days later at their shop. They explained I was also going to need fluids and a few small brackets, which was fine and acceptable. They provided the fluids and small misc nuts/bolts, and I provided the oil cooler kit & chain. Around a month went by and I still did not receive a call from Keith or anyone at Xtreme. On July 21st, I called Keith and asked for an update. He explained the bike was completed but he still had to finish up the paperwork and would call me back. I received a call back from him a day later stating the total bill was $1025! I was outraged and appalled at this. I was quoted $200 for labor, plus parts. Keith said it took them longer so there was additional labor cost. Unfortunately, that is not acceptable, increased pricing was never agreed upon by myself! I was quoted $200 plus parts and I agreed to this, not $1025. Keith said that was the bill, and I could not pick up the motorcycle unless I paid that amount. My only option was to pay the outrageously fraudulent price of $1025. I was deceived, defrauded, & blackmailed; I was quoted $200 labor plus parts and charged over $900 labor plus parts. The bill was paid on 7/28/2009 via cashier's check; to receive the motorcycle back.

Sounds fishy.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 28, 2009

Sorry, but the original complaint sounds fishy to me.    $200 to reinstall a Gixxer engine?   That's just not believable.   On top of that, on a bike with an extended swingarm and a nitrous system?   Completely ludicrous.

Investigation complete

AUTHOR: Xtreme - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 27, 2009

Xtreme takes all customer complains seriously and investigates thoroughly in order to attempt to find a way to resolve any issue to the customers satisfaction. The complaint as levied by Mr. Scott McKinney 847 Mirmar Drive Valparaiso, IN. 46385 has been thoroughly investigated in an attempt to find a means to resolve the complaint to Mr. McKinneys satisfaction. The facts of the investigation follow.

Keith Walega spoke with Scott McKinney when he originally called Xtreme to see if our service department was able to install an engine he had removed from a '04 Suzuki GSXR1000. Mr. Walega inquired who removed the engine from the motorcycle. Mr. McKinney responded that it was removed by a shop that was no longer in business and that he he needed a shop he can trust to do the work in a timely manner and done the correct way. Mr. McKinney did at this point ask for an exact quote and Mr. Walega replied that he was not able to give an exact quote on finishing a job that we did not start but a rough estimate was approx $700. Mr. Walega asked Mr. McKinney if the engine was complete and all components were present Mr. McKinney replied without  hesitation, he answered

it is complete and ready to be just dropped in and everything should be ready to start unit up.

On 6/11/09 Mr. McKinney dropped off the motorcycle and engine along with 2-3 boxes of various parts. Upon cursory examination of the contents of the boxes it was apparent that the chain was missing and the motorcycle was modified for drag racing including having custom paint, a custom extended swingarm and extensive engine modifications. Mr. Walega did contact Mr. McKinney and informed him of the missing parts and asked if he wanted Xtreme to order the parts. Mr. McKinney replied that he wanted to attempt to find the parts on his own in order to procure the parts at a discount. After waiting for Mr. McKinney to supply the parts for approximately a week Mr. Walega contacted Mr. McKinney and informed him that we either need the parts or we need to order them because now this is holding Xtreme up with the job and the technicians schedule. Mr. McKinney understood that Xtreme took the job with the understanding that Mr. McKinney would supply the motorcycle and all the parts needed when the bike was dropped off  to be able to complete the installation of the engine. This did in fact not occur.

After the parts were dropped off by Mr. McKinney the motorcycle was able to be worked on by our technician on June 18, 2009. On June 18,2009 technician Pat Dwyer. While the technician did the work to fit the engine to the motorcycle it became obvious that there was considerable modifications to both the motorcycle and engine and that the parts supplied to Xtreme for this job and never been assembled on the same motorcycle. Mr. Walega informed McKinney of this and McKinney informed Walega that he was not aware of the modification either. The modifications included but are not limited to:

Oil cooler by pass that required the fabrication of mounts for the engine radiator.

Customer added the installation of a Nitrous Oxide injection system to the original job.

Source missing fasteners

Repair NOX connections to air box

Mr. Walega did inform Mr. McKinney of the additional charges that this work would result in and Mr. McKinney replied "All I want is to have the bike done and be able to ride it before season is over."  During one of many visits to the dealership by Mr. McKinney, Pat Dwyer observed a conversation between Mr. Walega and Mr. McKinney that included  Mr. McKinney being informed of the hours that had been billed on the job so far at 5.5 hrs. and the expected time to complete the job at 4.5 approx.  During this conversation Mr. Walega informed Mr. McKinney that due to the extensive racing modifications the job has to bill on an actual time basis.

When the job was completed Mr. Walega called Mr. McKinney and informed that the job was done and the total. Mr. McKinney did at this point question the bill and Mr. Walega informed Mr. McKinney that they had discussed the work at every step and that Mr. McKinney both approved the work and requested additional work. Mr. McKinney stated that he wanted to pick up the bike but that he did not want to pay the bill. Mr. Walega informed Mr. McKinney that he could not pick up the bike until the bill was paid. Mr. McKinney then informed Mr. Walega that he would pick up the bike in two hours.

When Mr. McKinney picked up his motorcycle he shook the hand of Mr. Walega and thanked me for all the work we did to his unit. He rode away and from our facility completely satisfied of all the work performed on his unit.

Upon careful review, our investigation has found that;

1)     The customer was informed of the ongoing repairs and costs as they occurred.

2)     The customer visited the store numerous times during the period of repair and discussed the repairs and costs in detail and did approve both the repairs and costs.

3)     The customer did request additional work be performed at additional cost

4)     The customer did substantially misrepresent the condition of the motorcycle in not revealing the extensive nature of the modifications to this racing motorcycle.
